Thoughts on this figure? Who's going to be buying it?

As I said in another thread, the SA Deathtrooper looks like an amazing figure! I will definitely be getting more than 1 of these - if I can find this @ retail, of course. This trooper design may end up being my favorite Imperial armored trooper design ever....

I was against the all black at first, but yeah this figure is cool.

Is his gear removable so we can have a non-specialist version?

Plus as these things are obvious troop-builders will they produce enough stock for demand? (I'm guessing no considering how difficult it is to get current SA BS figures at the moment)

To answer your question, almost certainly not - Wal-mart is the only place to get these, and ever since they started carrying exclusive TBS 3.75" figures they've been extremely difficult to find - except for the obvious peg-warmers, i.e. TFA's Finn, ROTJ Han, ANH Celebration Leia, etc.

Well this is going to be a nightmare. Fn Walmart man...

To be honest I have found a good amount of the troop builder figures at most our Walmarts.Just takes a bit of persistence but I have found a lot of them.I can see Jyn and Andors pegwarming though these guys might be a challenge .

I have a feeling there will be enough of these figures out...eventually. (Meaning that WalMart won't put them on the floor when they're supposed to be; then we'll get them thrown in very late when they have to get rid of them to make room for Ep VIII stuff.)

As jedimasterc said, be patient...

Yeah which I usually am not:grin:

If there's only one to get at that scale, the black trooper is the one to go for. Might be tricky to get a couple though.

This figure looks great, I'm really looking forward to picking it up. If anyone in the San Gabriel Valley sees this wave in stores please let me know.

I can already predict that this TBS 3.75" Deathtrooper figure will be fairly impossible to find @ retail. A lot of collectors (myself included) will want multiples of this character, which will make it very desirable. Also, AFAIK this figure isn't available carded (yet) in the 5 POA format - so, unless this changes, the only way you will be able to get it carded will be as the 3.75" figure.

I only have one local Wal-mart in my area, and it's tough to find any new TBS 3.75" figures at all - other than the peg-warmers.

I will keep my eyes out for you.I plan to get a few of these guys too.

Thx. I might have to resort to RS members for all my needs anyway as those exclusive will apparently avoid most of overseas market once more ;)

so in the pics from the Entertainment magazine the most amount of these guys is 5 in 1 pic. 2 'commanders' i.e. 2 of them with pauldrons and 3 without. all of them look to have the same blasters except 1 looks like he's sporting some sort of sniper rifle. the ones without the pauldrons have some sort of senor thingy on the left temple that the ones with the pauldron do not have. am I right so far? anybody else got better eyes. I'm just wondering how many I should get to 'complete' my set.

I'm glad to see them go with the "specialist" gear on this one. I'd like to get a couple of this one. I'm not big into the black armor, but they do look cool enough over all.

Off hand, I think there are 6 total (as per the RO artwork), with two having pauldrons and the more complex chest rig.

I watched the Celebration reel a moment ago, and it appears there are actually 3 Troopers with paulrons in this shot:

I'm SO glad they're making this figure! This is the one I want to pose for action, not just stand around. And props for not just releasing a regular OT Stormtrooper, but creating this entire figure. I'll be buying a few, but I'm skeptical how available they'll be. The FO Stormtroopers got re-released 8 months later in another wave that clogged shelves, so they were somewhat easier to find. I hope those "ended up at clearance" economics don't prevent Hasbro & Walmart from stocking this wave solidly.

After 50 million iterations of the Sandtrooper incorrectly having the ammo pouches attached to the pauldron instead of the shoulder they miraculously get it right for this guy. Well, he's definitely a buy, and a rare one for me these days.

Hoping for 2. I'll army build with 5POAs because I'm not a jerk

I may have to do this as well. The forthcoming?! SA TBS 3.75" Deathtrooper will be impossible to find; not only is it a great figure, but collectors will be troop-building the he$$ out of this. So, I'm guessing that the only way most of us will be able to get multiples of this character is by getting the 5 POA version.

I was actually tempted to buy the 18" Deathrooper recently - and I hardly ever get any of these extremely large figures.

Based on that pic it looks like I need 6 of these guys, I was going to stop at two but I'm getting hyped for a squad of these. I have the Shadow, or Black hole or whatever they are called Storm troopers from a long time ago sort of standing in for these guys playing recently but I don't think that will wor4k once I get a 'real" one because they look too different.

thanks Jodo.
this is gonna be fun trying to find that many

I am hoping for 2 but I would be ok with just 1. I have no issues with 5 POA figure.

Need as many as I can get which might be only 1 with the distribution around here.

If the parts are removable to make him a regular Death Trooper and the squad leader than this is going to be even better. I have 3 Wal-marts in my city and only 1 has received any of the ERG & Ahsoka wave so far. I'm hoping this next wave is in much better supply.

that should be the case. It would really make it a great figure if the accessories are removable.

Nope.

They need to get this line away from Walmart.

I still question the "fact" that no other store chains (or even online) wanted these. I think Hasbro was losing WM on the SW front and wanted to give the higher ups something to get them back. The problem is that the higher ups may have landed a coup, but how the line is handle at the customer level was always going to be trouble for the end consumer.

I've never heard any online retailers stating that Hasbro asked them if they wanted the line, but they said no. I don't think Hasbro wanted to offer the line to anybody, but WM and Hasbro's hope all along has been to kill the SA 3.75" line by pushing the 6" line and having their main line of 3.75" figures be aimed at the kiddie market with 5 POA. Hasbro's been hoping that nobody buy the SA 3.75" line so they have a reason to get rid of us old, longtime, loyal collectors. Hasbro figures that if they ever need us again, they'll be able to show up with a whole line of never-before-made SA 3.75" figures from the newer films and we'll just run back to them with open arms.

Unfortunately, this all makes perfect sense. The 3.75" TBS "sub-line" (for lack of a better word) is definitely not being supported by Hasbro whatsoever. It's been a real hassle to collect, especially since the line became a Wal-mart exclusive.

Out of "the big three" brick & mortar retailers for toys (Wal-mart, Target, and TRU), Wal-mart is definitely the worst. Their toy aisles are always disorganized/messy, they typically have very little product in general (in relation to the other two retailers), and their exclusives are next-to-impossible to find.

In terms of the customer experience, YES, WalMart is horrible. I don't think many people would argue that point.

But very often situations like this are highly dependent on the NUMBERS. There are over 5000 WalMart stores (of varying levels) across the United States. Now compare that with other potential exclusive partners.

Target: 1800 stores in the US
Toys R Us: 850+ stores in the US
K-Mart: 850+ stores in the US

Believe me, I would much rather spend my money at either Target or Toys R Us. But the sheer number of WalMart stores makes the likelihood that a collector will be able to find an exclusive figure that much greater. And it's because of the volume WalMart can do and the number of stores where they can stock product.

As for this version of the Death Trooper? I'm really looking forward to it.... provided I can find it!

Good point. TRU & Target do have fewer stores, and do definitely see less traffic. One of the Wal-marts in my area is open 24/7, so obviously gets a lot more shoppers. And, if I go to this Wal-mart in the evening (especially late evening) the lines are incredibly long. I never see this many people in either TRU or Target.

Re: K-mart, I have no way to get any exclusives there since all of the K-marts in my area closed down several years ago. I thought the whole chain had closed until I went out of town & noticed a couple of them around. I wasn't able to get those Ewok exclusives that hit K-marts about 4-6 years ago. So, I hope this chain doesn't get any more SW exclusives. Also, the K-marts I've been to are almost always in sketchy parts of town.
