The eclipse. All I can say is those minutes just before, during, & just after totality were amazing. Even knowing what is going on it was still mind blowing. I can just imagine what humans thought before they knew & understood the science of what was happening. How easy it would have been to believe it was the end of the world.
At least we know better now. Uh huh.
The whole week has been one of extremes. Here in Austin they estimated that close to 1 million people came here to experience the eclipse. It made an over crowded city even more so. The last few days the airport had more people leaving than during peak holidays or SXSW (South by South West festival). People panic buying food & filling up their cars worried that there would be nothing left due to the people visiting.
“
We know it’s not the end of the world, but we are going to act like it is”.
Then just a few hours after the eclipse we had some severe thunderstorms. Lightning was insane & constant. So close with no thunder delay. The booms knocked over numerous figures that never fall as well as a couple picture frames.
Hard to try & calm my small dog when my own heart was racing. Then overnight after the storm line moved on it was cloudy & just out of nowhere BOOM! Massive thunder clap & LONG trailing rumbles. Then nothing (rain, wind, or more thunder) just quiet. Happened 3 times over a couple hours. So weird.
The next day (Tuesday) started nice but around 5pm there were storms passing just north of us & out of nowhere hail started coming down. Marble size to begin with, then golf ball to tennis ball size & the amount falling increased outrageously. Sounded like jack hammers on the roof of the house. Lasted about 10-15 minutes. Then it was gone & sunny.
10 minutes after it ended & was moving northeast…
Hailstone giving a thumbs up after damaging my wife’s car windshield…
The small patio where I have taken pics of many of my customs…
Multiple impact shatters on my wife’s car windshield…
Nope. Definitely not the end of the world.
