Just another quote I got today from Gen Con when I asked about the schedule of events...
"Dana I am unaware of any schedule of events that we will be posting. I would just keep checking on the Starwars.com website for updates on events expected at the show. Sorry I can’t be of more assistance." What the heck??!

Are they just going to have guest speakers or demonstators randomly show up and hope to manage the mob to get into whatever hall the guest speaker want to be?

You're right Jentau! No use in getting all worked up over things that aren't in our control. Did you all get the GenCon mass email today about the badge mailings?

Re: HEADS UP! Scheduling starts next week

What are the GenCon Volunteers going through?
Getting a bit frustrated with the lack of schedule and, therefore, lack of sign-up for shifts to know what they are going to be doing.
My hubby and I are signed up with them as well--but really only to do the stuff we want to do (like work Lazer Tag and hopefully will call) and forget the rest after the complete lack of organization last time around.

My understanding is that the lack os schedule is not GenCon's fault. It is Mary Franklin. She knows that EVERYTHING hinges on that schedule. But she is taking her time anyways.

I mean, CIV is only 3 weeks away! This is rediculous.

Re: HEADS UP! Scheduling starts next week

On a complete aside:
Remembering a comment from Carolyn Blakely* (Mon Mothra), I have appointed myself the 'Tea bearer'.

I bought a very nice thermos with a strap, I have my electric kettle (that actually *boils* water) and will have proper Tetly tea nicely steeped (not a quick dunk) as well as milk.

Please not that due to expected high demand, my tea services will be fairly limited though -

*On Saturday at c3, Carolyn told me she would have given her right arm for a decent cup of tea, so although she will not be there this time, I'll do so for her!

Re: HEADS UP! Scheduling starts next week

I understand everyone's frustration, I even have that same feeling but I keep thinking I CHOOSE to volunteer, it was MY choice so now I am going to treat this like I do my job. I will work around the schedule given and do my best to enjoy my time. It would make things more comfortable to have the schedule but it is going to be a blast just to be there no matter what they have going on and when.

Hear, Hear!

I volunteered because I had a grand time doing so at C3 -

Yes, a schedule conflict came up - a heartbreaker for me, but I stuck to my commitment with only a little bit of regret (I'm still human, and subject to disappointment after all).

But still, the OP experience was one of the highlights of the convention for me because I was a part of the greater whole! Being a volunteer puts you in the thick of things, and you make great freinds to boot!

Karma has a nice way of balancing things out.

My GOH, Simon Williamson (Max Reebo), said he would have killed for the same. I'll have to remember to bring some good tea bags!

See, there's the rub - Americans as a whole can't make REAL tea...

1) 'Lipton' or 'Red Rose' is NOT real tea - Typhoo or Tetlies is acceptable.

2) Real tea does not have fru fru flavors - Especially 'Orange spice'

3) Tea is steeped in BOILING water - not just 'hot' for 30 seconds. Microwaves don't cut it either.

4) In the intrest of neatness, I'm afraid I'll only have milky tea in the thermos, but I'll have a supply of sugar packs...

PS - for the record, I've rarely had a decent cup of Coffee in England, so it's all good.

I agree. It seems like there are all these complaints (well deserved complaints) about how GenCon is running things but we should all be proud to be a part of the OPX volunteering. I hear good things about OPX volunteers in the past and from personal experience of being a fan there get signatures at C2 and C3...not even being a volunteer. You folks that helped out the past couple of times, I think you did a great job. Now we can work to make the autograph hall the best part of C4! Woo!

Tea advice (albeit good advice) from the realm of Starbucks..... Makes me go, "Hhhhmmmmm"... I then ask, is Bigelow Earl Grey out of the question???

I couldn't agree more... despite my previous rant re: GenCon, most of my fondest memories of both C2 & C3 come from the autograph halls. The halls contributed greatly to making both my trips to Indy worth it! I now know what's expected of me as I take a bold step forward and joining this team... Can I get a "Who-Rah"???

I could bring some excellent tea (loose tea). What kind do you like? Indian, china black, green tea? Let me know. No really I have the hook up. lol

I've created a monster!!!

But seriously, my biggest suggestion is pack a kettle and a THERMOS. Make the tea in your hotel room and bring it ready made.

Don't forget the cups!

Anne is the bestest, most perfect scheduler EVER!!!!
Thanks, Anne - it's an ideal schedule for me and husband, and it even came earlier than promised! Once we hear more about the Gencon schedule of events, I'll look at adding another shift or two.

Can't wait!
