Thoughts on Veers?

I've wanted Veers for ages, regularly featuring in my LFS lists so this is most welcome. This can be used to leverage Thrawn in armour as well as the ill fated (I'm guessing) Commander from M&G.

I have some mixed feelings on this one:

On the one hand, I’m glad this update exists. I like getting new/updated Imperial officers and I think this is a good one to do.

On the other hand, I think the armor torso is kind of weird to look at from the sides. In some still/behind-the scenes images there’s some sort of connecting strap from the front to the back that is seemingly not here. The gap also feels kind of far apart between the front and the back. Not an outright deal breaker, though.

This one is a nitpick but Julian Glover leaned on the taller side, so some added height would’ve been nice. It’s kind of like the Thrawn situation (Rebels version excluded) where it would be nice to have differing heights for the Imperial Officers that are supposed to be a bit taller.

The cardback is an odd approach. I don’t outright dislike it, but I think it’s odd. I think they should’ve opted for an image of Veers in the AT-AT.

Still, I’ll pick this one up at some point. I think it looks better than the TSC version and worth the upgrade.

Staying true to vintage Kenner. The AT-AT commander was never identified as Veers. This time, Hasbro went ahead and specifically named him.
The decision to release a generic "AT-AT Commander" figure that very specifically didn't look like Veers because, "tee hee, the cardback doesn't actually say 'Veers', suckers!" was insane, baffling and, to someone who was desperate for a proper Veers head for an Indiana Jones custom, infuriating.

I don’t see no Star Destroyer scenes head, but. Umm. Yes. Immediately.

Way back in 2010 when the Vintage Collection made it's debut, I think we were all a bit baffled by that. It "Kinda" looked like Veers, but I guess we all just assumed they were trying to stay true to the Kenner card.

Might get one or two. Depends on the armour being removable or not. Suppose I can always cancel the extra.

But that makes no sense, as the Kenner figure was, of course, based on Veers and not supposed to be just some random idiot.

never mind. Someone already made my point.

I'm getting it for my Big Legacy AT-AT. I'm really looking forward to Hasbro spoiling us with the Battle of Hoth theme (I hope we won't have to wait until 2030).

Remember way back when…
Hasbro: here is an sat drive & commander but we are not making an ATAT!

Immediately after the last peg warming driver leaves the pegs….. Here is a Big ATAT!

The cardback shows only AT-ATs again, not Veers himself in the cockpit.
Yeah, I think what Hasbro is going for with this is quasi 96er slot by having the AT-AT image instead of Veers in cockpit while also having AT-AT Commander under his name it sort of pulls double duty in their view. Thus I don't think they plan on doing an actual "AT-AT Diver" release to cover that 96 slot.

To me Veers should have had the cockpit scene be his card image since the Snowtrooper Commander does. TVC technically already has the AT-AT Commander so I don't see the need to skit it with Veers. It's whatever as it's their decision and it doesn't bother me as a loose collector but I'm sure it does annoy some people because ultimately they're not getting actual 96er slots covered by Hasbro playing the loosey goosey game.

Got an order in. I'd rather have Veers in my AT-AT over an unnamed commander. 😅

I have my favorite sub-themes to collect. Cantina aliens, Ewoks, Rebel Pilots, Jabba's Denizens, Prequel Jedi, and, maybe, most of all, Skiff Guards are high on my love list. I just adore all these subcategories. But another is Imperial Officers. I can see why some may find them bland or boring...but I just love them. And for those who do think they're bland, at least Veers is more interesting and battle-ready.

I'm very happy to see this guy updated. I feel like I'm one of the few that's actually very excited by this wave. Add to this, if you have an extra officer, you can make an armorless Veers, I'd presume, pretty easily so long as the head fits on the ball peg of a Piett or so. Though, now that I think on it, I'm not sure if the rank badge would work...but maybe? Anyone know? But even if not, it's easy to overlook.

Still have my heart set on a modernized Imperial Briefing Room set with a new Tarkin, Tagge, Cass, Bast, and Yularen since we already have Motti. An easy way to get a bunch of named officers out in one swoop—think akin to the cantina band set. I'm also hoping for Needa, Ozzel, and an all-black uniform officer eventually. I'd love to see Daala and Isard someday, too, using the female mold made with Deedra. They're all incredibly easy figures to make, all effectively just needing new heads, but all still desirable. Well...at least to me.

I wonder if we'll ever get an update for one of my all-time favorite SW figures, the Imperial scanning crew member. I know it's an odd favorite, but I just love hyper-generic figures because they appeal to the diorama builder in me. Generic background roles really, really, really make a scene feel lived in and alive.

I'd prefer if Hasbro release an armor less Veers, to date thee isn't a General's rank torso so a simple head swap wouldn't work. You'd have to reuse Admiral Piett from the 4-pk and remove four chicklets. Also by making armor less Veers it opens the door for Valin Hess from Madalorian. Not that there's a lot of interest expressed in him, it at least one more Officer with the same rank. Unlike Captain/Moff there aren't as many Generals running around with his chicklet count.

We do still need the four chicklet rank that would get us about a dozen backgrounders, particularly in black uniform. There seems to be a lot of twos and threes in Andor.

I am so close to just ordering one from 3D seller, I'm just hesitant to do so before we learn if Hasbro actually plans to do it. But the wait is killing me and i think I might just do it by middle of next year and be done with it.

I'd like a proper Needa and Ozzel update with phto real head sculpts, but interim I did a head swap to hold me over. Daala would be nice to get updated as well, I've tried to customize that old body with newer legs and it's really tough as the waist/skirt is too narrow of today's hips. TBH, I'm not sold on Dedra's torso, it looks way too scrunched, probably to accommodate taller man legs, and frumpy. I'd rather a total overhaul for any future female imperials, but i know that's not likely.

I think that Hasbro does need to incorporate more alt hand options in figure with so much reuse, but I know it's utilized specifically to be cheap filler to offset a brand new mold. In the case of Tarkin I'd even be willing to forgo a blaster if he had extra hands, because he never uses one in the movie. Not that I want fewer accessories but if it helps get actual usable things I'm for it.

As for Tarkin, I really think he needs to be saved for 2027 ANH 50th. Otherwise it going to be very light if they keep releasing OT characters as heavily as they are. Such as Greedo. This has long been problem with Hasbro during TVC, releasing items just prior to the media's anniversary.
