I don’t understand why there was a petition for this character in the first place. Aren’t there so many more exciting options in the Star Wars Galaxy than a human male pilot in a blue suit?
Exactly! There’s so many cool aliens from the movies to cover instead of a human and yet another xwing.

Hell give me Yoda hut in TVC and I’ll be over the moon happy. THAT would be huge to announced versus a repaint.

I'm torn. I love Blue Squadron and am glad to get anything aside from another Luke Skywalker/Red Squadron replicas. Blue Squad for life!

On the other hand it would be nice to get some playsets or different ships.

So happy we finally get Merrick's X-wing! I'm glad I held off on trying to customize one myself. I wonder what's going on with his astromech, if one will be included.

I don't mind the Target exclusive - at least its not a Walmart one.
I guess i have to agree here. Tho very disappointed in how Target handled the Black Series 6 inch Mandalorian Carbon figure.

Best announcement even though it's not really a performance with 4 repacks and 4 repaints to go with it.

Glad they are including a carded Merrick to go with it but what about his astromech?

I am looking forward to this. As for Marrick’s Astro droid we didn’t really see it in the film. So you can use any droid I would think.

It seems his astromech sports a silver dome in the shots i could locate on the web. One easy to find in the plethora of R2's in the collection. Still, i'm sure someone will create a backstory for Merrick's copilot and add it to one of the numerous reference books.

I like aliens and side/background characters as much as the next guy.

But this a heroic supporting character from a well-liked movie who actually does cool sh*t, not just walk across the background for .72 seconds of screentime.

I think I will be adding this color coordinated astromech until Big H decides to produce R3-S1.

Happy to see this character and vehicle being released. The details and weathering are great. That said, I do wish they would do sth about the droopy wings and weak "s-foil" mechanism. Keep the fuselage, but the rest of the toy needs an overhaul. After seeing that it can be done better, i.e. Poe's x-wing, I'm not all in yet.

This is one of the best screencaps that I can find where you can clearly identify Merrick's X-Wing and make out some details on his droid. It looks like an R2 unit with a silver dome and the main body appears to be red.

I am excited for this one! Granted I really only wanted the action figure but will take the X-wing. I think it is a good choice for an exclusive. As some have mentioned he probably is not the most popular choice. But I love Rogue One and it will be nice to get a blue Squandron x-wing option. It will suck to plunk down $120 but oh well. I am hoping Tungori will somehow have loose Merricks to buy. I doubt I will be able to tear Merrick off the card if I only have one. Yes. I know it is the older x-wing mold. Maybe he and the x-wing will be in the Andor series.

Perhaps Hasbro will browse this thread and see there is demand for the figure itself, outside of a purchase with vehicle, and offer it accordingly. I imagine it has army builder / customizing potential as well. I would prefer to buy it carded, direct from Hasbro or a retailer, instead of an ebay seller of factory rejects.

Yeah I'm not buying it, I'll wait for the single release in two years If I'm still interested by then. One thing is for sure they love figure repacks, just look at the Ackbar wave.

Did they say that he’ll be on a card? I assumed he’d just be twist tied to the window box or something.

Pleasantly surprised that we’re getting both Merrick and the X-Wing. I know it’s an easy repaint for Hasbro, but it’s still a good one to put out there.

I would have been all over a single-carded Merrick but don't really have the want/space for his X-wing at this point. I would think there must be a petition somewhere with more signatures for an updated Y-wing. Show me a Y-wing that's at least the same size as the Clone Wars version and I'll pay in advance right now.

I dont know how I Am going to get this from TArget. I will try tho. If I can find it I will buy multiples, I am going to need 2 for myself, one to open and one HAS to be MISB. But I'll try and get as many as they let me, we should all get on the same page and supply our community.

If I have to, I'll try ebay, I get a feeling the secondary market is going to have a field day with this one. Plus, after the discouraging experince with the BLack Series 6 inch Carbon Mando, I dunno....

Don't know yet how i'll get my hands on this.

Leaving overseas, Target is not an option. Fan channel is likely out of the question, at least for that "first wave" and if they ever pull a Slave I and offer it in a year or two to other US etailers.

With Brexit now fully operational, i fear custom taxes the the EU will make any deal way too overpriced unless Zavvi or Amazon carry it... with the constant threat of getting a damaged box.

I guess i'll have to explore local options within the EU first to see if there are reasonable listings.

When was it even supposed to be listed for pre-order? This is one major problem with Target is that I never know when they list things, then it's a waiting game till it actually becomes available to again meet an onslaught of likeminded people trying to buy one as well! Then another agonizing wait until it pops up for in store pickup if it ever does...

I'm in the same boat here. I will 1000% be purchasing this X-Wing, but wish that I didn't have to use the shapeways part to fix the wings. Granted, it will probably be in "landing position" most of the time, but the droopy wings got really old with the Red 5 release.

It was really interesting to hear Patrick talk about the Target pre-order process as possibly not even happening for this vehicle, that it may just release straight to shelves. I was working at Target during my furlough, and it seemed like they were re-configuring their distro system to center around in-store pickups, (I do know for a fact that this same change lead to a LOT of problems at WalMart, most of which seem to be resolved now,) but I wonder if those issues will be fixed this year. I'll certainly be watching this space closely.

A poster in another thread noted that the Color Change R2 from Galaxy's Edge is really close to Merrick's Astromech, but I think I'll be customizing my own.

It's not going up for some time apparently. I believe it's expected to hit stores this fall so PO may not start for another couple months i guess.

Looking at the scene in motion it looks like it's got dark panels, dark blue, or I think black. Certainly darker than R2. Difficult to discern exactly though because of the colour flares from the engines and blaster fire.

Hopefully, this doesn’t mean they release Poe’s Black X-Wing repaint as a Wal-Mart EX or something. I’ve found Target is much easier to find them whereas WM Exclusives might as well be eBay Exclusives to me.

So is this an all new sculpt or is it using the new X-Wing Luke as a base? If so I hope that the new leg parts make him taller, the arms at least look new.
hard to make out on that small image though.

Another thing they're missing out on by not having him single carded is multiple purchases by people who will get extras for Army building/customs of other Pilots, since it's obvious Hasbro won't be getting to them any time soon. So while they might sell through a few over priced $100 X-Wings just because of this figure , I feel they could made a lot more Money off him if he were sold as a basic figure!

I wonder if we will get an A-Wing pilot on VC card from his mold?

Personally, as an X-Wing fanatic, it’s because this X-Wing is an homage to the original X-Wings from ANH before they changed them to red. .
For those that don't know ILM originally made two models, of the X-Wing and Y-Wing, to base the life size set pieces on and sent them to London for reference. This was very early when it was still Blue squadron in the script, the X-Wing model was later used in the film (the Y-Wing referred to as Red Jammer as it had red details in stead of gold like the ones used in the film was not reused) but of course it had to be repainted first. The model was Blue Leader with one stripe but was repainted red and an extra stripe added to become Red 2 Wedge's X-Wing. Pics of the original model before it was repainted exist and it looks like that is what this X-Wing is based on, so it should be an easy custom to turn this into Wedge's X-Wing giving us all 3 in Luke's group using this mold since we already got Like and Biggs'.

(from the Japanese Star Wars Chronicles Blue-1 before it became Red 2) Note the same white patch on the upper left wing engine

Note also they put the "spade" shaped symbol on the opposite side

Exactly. He's a dynamic frontline General, who we see tearing up the battlefield and rescuing the commando team from certain defeat. In addition, he's handsome, sporting that fashionable new blue flightsuit as well that amazing 70s porn-stache. Sadly, he was "too-cool to live", but was recognized as an instant badass by the fandom and is wildly popular.

That being said, now that I can sit down and write finally, I am beyond thrilled that this is coming out. I'll need to clear more space on the flight deck, but this is the best reveal for me since TVC came back and is a must in my book.

Yeah, I think all this is right. He's a prominent secondary character in the movie and has some great moments in the big battle (which I think most people agree is the highlight of the movie, if not of all the Disney-era movies). He's the kind of character we all know would have come out in early 2017 if they made figures now like they did back in the day.

He wasn't at the top of my list, even from Rogue One...but I think it's cool he's coming. I'll be picking up him and his ship.

I also think this is a great and important point:

Maybe he and the x-wing will be in the Andor series.
This would make a lot of sense in terms of why they might plan on doing it now. Of course, in another instance of stupid Hasbro timing, I would bet this comes out and runs through its availability cycle before Andor premieres...so people who might get excited about getting this from the show won't be able to find it. Is there a word for anti-synergy?

I would like the Poe's Vintage Collection Orange Dreamsicle reused for other ships- it's a better interpretation of its screen equivalent than the T-65 sculpt used for last year's Red 5 and the upcoming Blue Leader- but hopefully one of the more anonymous blue T-70's with a Resistance pilot they haven't made yet, like Jess Pava or maybe a Snap Wexley with removable helmet.
I'd even make an attempt to navigate Wal-Mart's terrible preorder cancellations then eBay markup system for something like that.

I think it would be nice to see a 501st one from the last episode, to compliment Ahsoka from Mandalore.
