This one has been confirmed for release by Hasbro designer Bill Rawley which can be seen here, the figure will come with 2 sets of hands - normal for holding his cane and hands with lightning. At this stage he'll have a cloth cloak if all goes well.

Who's picking this one up?

Nice, very sad about the $40 price tag for jabba and biker scout though. Was hoping more in the $30 range

God I hate soft good, but I'll be getting my favorite character, no doubt. I'm hoping to eventually get an Episode 3 Darth Sidious in his reddish outfit or something like that, with swabbable heads and his gold lightsaber, but this'll do.

Best part of that confirmation interview: not a single mention of a lightsaber.

:)

So separate hands with lightning were mentioned. I wonder how they'll do this? Like the 3.75" Vader with the blue webs or something more sophisticated?

About time, the Emp always seems to be the forgotten character when IMO he's one of the most important. I'm hoping for a ROTJ emp, with force lighting and his cane.

Keep it for the prequel version. He didn't use one in RotJ - just like Yoda didn't use one in ESB.

Cane, lighting hands, call it a day.

Keep it pure.
You know... you don't have to display him with it if he comes with it. It's not a law.

Yeah they could include them and you could just leave them aside. It'll be no extra cost to you either way.

JarJarBinks so you think every figure of a Sith Lord or a Jedi should always have a lightsaber where God's didn't use one in Empire or even in return of the jedi?
I still hate Palpatine's sith saber. His hilt was too damn short even when Hasbro had to include it for the Vintage Collection Phantom Menace Sidious figure.

How about the include it for people who want it and then you can just leave yours aside? You can burn it or throw it out or whatever. It's better to include, it keeps more people happy.

That's what I really am planning on doing.

That and I've noticed some of the new recent jabba palace henchmen keep getting the stupid staff vibro pikes. Not every one used those staffs. Ree yees had his own blaster rifle by the way.

Wasn't the Black Series Nikto figure supposed to have a shorter blaster or something? But instead Hasbro gave that figure another generic jabba's palace gun.

I'm glad they're making the Emperor, not glad about potential soft goods. No, no, no. He doesn't need them. The guy said no chair, so he doesn't need to sit. And he's not jumping around at all. Why can't they make him like Maul? The soft goods don't look good on Vader IMO.

They included a Lightsaber and Blaster with ANH X-Wing Luke Skywalker. Two things he never had or used in that costume.

So yes... they should include the character appropriate accessories whenever possible. And people may want to display Palpy w/ Saber.

If its a 6 inch Black Series Return of the Jedi Palpatine there is no need for a freakin sith Lord saber. If its an unlit Luke saber then that's fine but NO SITH LORD SABER for a Black Series 6 inch Return of the Jedi Palpatine

Again... just don't display yours with it. It's Palpatine's saber regardless if he used it or not in Return of the Jedi.

Allow collectors the option to display him with it or not. Just like Hasbro did with Luke: X-Wing Pilot. As noted above.

I don't even want to see it in the box. The less I'm reminded of how they ruined the character in the prequels, the better.

Ruined? He was barely a character until the Prequels. Where we finally saw him as a master manipulator they suggested in RotJ.

I'm glad you liked him. That said, keep the characters strait, and leave the lightsabers for this over the top, hammy clown:

I prefer my Emperor cool, intimidating and quietly evil.

If they're going for the OT version, keep him that way. Same goes for Stormtroopers, Snowtroopers, TIE Pilots, AT-AT Drivers, Boba Fett and Yoda. There's plenty of time for a prequel versions down the road.

Too bad they're not offering him with his throne as another special boxed set like the Speederbike. His iconic portrayal in ROTJ is sitting in his throne, not standing around. They could have even included that Death Star window as a cardboard backdrop inside the box which you could cut out and display beside him, and then pose the new 6" Vader and Jedi Luke standing there too to recreate the "tempting Luke to turn to the Dark Side" scene. That would have made a real nice display piece on a shelf, but alas.... Hasbro's imagination is often so limited. :(

I hope they reconsider offering Palpatine with a throne, too. Vader confronting Luke: sabers crossed in front of Palpatine is one of my favorite moments of the entire series. Even if they have to do it as another bloody exclusive. I hate the idea of an exclusive of any sort, however, I could deal with that exclusive a lot quicker than Jabba with throne as an exclusive. At least the standard version of Palpatine I've heard discussed will have a number of cool accessories, as opposed to the $40 Jabba with no accessories.

I like all my collectibles except for the 1:1 busts without material. I'm hoping for a full plastic Emp, no sith lightsaber, just a came and force lightning at most.
This is the one I've been waiting for, hoping the portrait is similar to the eerie gaze from ROTJ.

lol you don't get hammier than the Emperor in ROTJ - he was practically Mr. Burns. See also, Family Guy. He got to ham it up in ROTS, thanksfully, after being relatively reserved for the two previous films. But Ian's acting in the opera scene was better than ANY of the acting in Jedi, and TPM and AOTC showed his skills as a master manipulator.

I'm not big on soft goods either, but I'm afraid it's unavoidable on this one. My only hope is that they use a fabric with a good texture, and that it is finished without raw edges.

All I ask is . . . please do not give him a smile. Dark and brooding look is the best for the Emperor.

Actually, he did have a lightsaber in RotJ. I'm willing to compromise.

:)
