Elite Praetorian Guard - #50

[GNT]

New pictures have leaked out of the upcoming 2nd wave Praetorian Guard figure. Look a pretty decent.

Thoughts on this figure?

I'm actually not all that jazzed for these guys. I'm sure I'll grab one (only one) eventually, but I'm more excited for Luke, Rey, Maz, the speeders, and the Rebels characters.

Yeah, I'm not feeling these guys either. Maybe that will change once the film comes out but, for now, the design alone just turns me off.

I think the design is cool looking, will definitely get one at least.
And if the rumored fourpack is legit, I'd probably end up getting them too.

I bet the arms are bent as far as they will go in that pic, and is that a clone trooper breastplate he is wearing?

I really am surprised that the design of this character did not have a little bit of black thrown in there. It is completely red and lacking any contrast.....the design looks kinda like an unpainted version of what it would be once it is painted . Anybody else feel this way? I guess we are used to seeing our troops and such have some blacks in their costumes.

To be fair he does have black legs showing as part of an underlayer. It's not lacking any contrast, just mostly. Let's be accurate please and not succumb to hyperbole. Now I do agree the upper torso or half of the costume lacks almost all contrast.

The McQuarrie concept royal guards were almost entirely black with shiny armor, kinda like TMNT Shredder, which BTW was one of the approved Lucas designs. The red garb, later done by Nilo-Rodis Jamero was eventually approved by Lucas with McQuarrie eventually relinquishing the design helm to Nilo and Joe Johnson during ROTJ.

Based on what we've gotten so far, I think you're right. And that does have some likeness to the clone breastplate. Multiple call-back.

I was referring to the armor mostly. .i did notice the legs of course....but the rest of the design looks unfinished. Maybe if it was a darker red it would be more appealing. I am interested in what role these guys do have in the film...I do plan on buying one at least. Lol

I agree the red looks flat, I believe the Bandai kit or Figuarts finish would look much better. Or you could always use a black wash to weather it.

The one Praetorian guard I don't like is (you can see it in the 3.75 inch 2 pack with Rey) that has the rudder ting on the top of his helmet. What WTH is that? This version looks ok but I will have to see it in person.

One in the Gamestop 4-pack, one is an Amazon Exclusive, and one is coming in wave 2. Is that correct?

Or was the one that was coming in wave 2 canceled and given to Amazon as an Exclusive? Are they different figures?

that top middle one, is actually the 3.75" version of the bottom middle

Confirmed. My 6" figure's arms cannot bend that far lol. So the only difference between the Amazon exclusive and the wave 2 figure is the heavy blade?

I was shocked to see the second wave in person tonight; but man, the hindered elbow articulation is a real bummer. Figure is pretty great aside from that- what is it with First Order 6" figures and bad elbow articulation.
