Hey guys- a couple people here might know that I live just to the north of New Orleans, and that my house and collection room took a couple feet of water from Katrina in 2005. I only lost a couple dioramas that time, and have since rebuilt them. But tonight, they're talking about the storm surge in my area from Gustav potentially going a few feet higher than it did then! Needless to say I placed my low-lying and most *precious* dioramas as high as I could, and the BMF in the attic, but still the potential is there for some considerable damage. Wish me luck! (We'll be in another state, evacuating tomorrow).

Hopefully none of your customs or anything gets ruined.

Hey man. All the best. I live in northeast MS and there is a house for sale about a block away. I'd be glad to help you move all those toys and dios. wink wink

hopin for the best for you and your family!

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection room!

Having been through several hurricanes myself, I can sympathize. You and everyone over there are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember looking at my in progress Mustafar diorama in 2005 as Dennis was moving in and preparing myself to say goodbye. Luckily, that storm's impact was minimal. However, having close family lose their homes during Katrina made the possibility of loss seem more real. It also put everything in perspective. Please post when all is said and done.

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection room!

Thanks you guys! Prof, I'm a neighbor to you right now, since we stayed in a family friend's condo in Destin! Funny enough, there were tornado warnings here this morning, and supposedly a couple touchdowns nearby. We're planning on heading back tomorrow (assuming the roads are open) because my wife has to get back to her job. Power's out across the area, and I don't yet know if my house got any water (someone who stayed checked it out midday and it hadn't flooded yet, but surges tend to come in late). I'll get back to you guys tomorrow or the next day and let you know how it went. Thanks again!

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection room!

My sister in law and her husband were vacationing in Destin just a week or so back and bailed out a day early before the heavy rains from Fay hit. My sister in Ft.Myer got glanced by that one. Hope everything is working out O.K. for Ya Greg.

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

I was very relieved to hear that the levees didn't break this time.

I sincerely hope that all your dios and everything else is okay and that you and your family are fine.

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

Hey Greg been out of town shelling not sure if its been past you yet or not but I hope you get through it O.K!I would hate to see your masterpieces destroyed for a second time round!
We live in an area that gets cyclones (same thing just spinning the other way I think) so I know how destructive they can be!!
Best of luck to all in the area if it hasnt pasted already!!

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

Guys, thanks so much for the well wishes! Happy to report that we're back and the house and collection room did NOT get flooded! Water came up to the front steps of the house, but no higher. I think I'm going to keep everything raised up for a couple more weeks in case we get another close call! Thanks again and I should be back on tonight once power's up at home. TTYL!

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

good to know your family, your house, and your dioramas are doing fine.

It would be a shame if your work of arts were damaged

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

Thanks again for the responses; sorry for the delay getting back on, but I just got my cable and internet back yesterday! I'm feeling much better about Ike's track to the west of us, and I think once it passes, the worst of the season should be over for us. I can't wait to get that Fall weather! (And new projects begun

).

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

Sighing with relief for you and yours.

Re: Really worried about the diorama/collection ro

I bet we won't see any "I like Ike" signs any time soon. Glad you, your family, and your collection are ok. I hope things continue to go well.
