Doctor Aphra - VC129 - 2017 Fan's Choice Winner

Didn’t Jayson hint that the droids were going to be repacked individually in the future? Could have sworn he suggested that a while ago. Did I just dream that? Feel free to tell me I’m imagining things, Jayson! 😅

Hasbro has been doing a lot of reissues of more demanded stuff lately, so it's probably legit.

But was this really in that much "demand"? I honestly do not recall ever hearing anything about interest in this being reissued, only the Droids because Aphra already got a solo release.

And if Hasbro really is into "in demand" items wouldn't that also include some of the comic pack characters? Or quite a few Legacy items that fetch over $100. lol

They're doing semi-recent stuff in Legends (as far back as 2020), so I wouldn't expect anything pre TVC 2.0

Wouldn’t mind a second chance at this.
The droids are the interesting part.

Aphra was a character I didn’t know much about who seemed interesting enough like a female Dr Mindbender, except that redacted.

At one point I thought one of the BoBF characters might be a version of her, but they didn’t follow through. 🤷‍♂️ Could be fun to see her in live action.

It's so weird how the D+ cameos are only of movie and Filoniverse characters and never the game/comic/novel/Galaxy's edge stuff that's canon. The Outlaws protag doesn't look much like her actress, but the Jedi Survivor leads do. That, and the Imperial era comic characters should be easy casting. I'm done with Rex, Ahsoka, Cad Bane and the lot. Especially post-RotJ

Because Filoni only cares about his own creations. Favreau, while still showing absurd levels of fealty to Filoni's creations, does tend to cast a slightly wider net on occasion, which is why we occasionally get things like Hux's dad being played by Domhnall Gleeson's brother or bringing in Cobb Vanth, who originally appeared in a book.

Favreau is also bringing in the BD-X droids, who were originally Galaxy's Edge roving characters.

But I personally find it insane that Favreau never visited Black Spire in any of his shows. Dude, what are you waiting for?

IKR, it's right there! Just lock the place for a week, maybe get some fans involved in appropriate cosplay to fill the streets. Some minimal cgi to add flying ships and scurriers. Same with the hotel. No need for the Volume if you've got an extensive set ready to go.

I know lots would call it a shameless ad (and pointless for the hotel) but honestly if it's a setpiece in a cool episode, Galaxy's Edge would become an actual set people will be visiting for that purpose afterwards.

the 2 droids would make ideal fillers for a FC wave and would the get the generic SW logo like Dr A did?

They could actually just shut Black Spire for a couple of days while keeping their cash cow, Rise of the Resistance, going, as it's on the far side of Batuu. They could shoot exteriors for a couple of days and then do interiors on sound stages. Easy!

As one of the lucky few who flew on the Starcruiser, as much as I loved it, I don't think its sets are quite TV show level quality. Also, it's being gutted and turned into office space as we speak. :(

Could they really though? Wouldn't it cost less just to build a small themed set, or use the volume, instead of shutting down an area of the park? How much would closing a section of the park cost in lost ticket sales for that time? Maybe, seems budgets for TV have gotten to inflated over the years that maybe it would be cheaper to film in the parks. lol

That's probably because different studios made them. I think EA (who does the Jedi series) has a lot more money to throw at actors and tech.
Surely you jest? Ubisoft, who did Outlaws, doesn't exactly shortchange Video Games. At least based on the budgets I've seen them chew through for highly recognizable IP's. So that Outlaws team is either woefully inadequate/incompetent at their jobs or just lazy. Then again the last several years of games in general have been tossed together and quite frankly Ubi hasn't turned in a stellar game in the last decade. They've simply been riding on Assassin Creed fumes with reskins.

As much as I despise some of the things EA has done they at least made one of the best Star Wars games since TFU, IMO.

I guess technically it'd be more correct to say the Jedi games were developed/made by Respawn and Outlaws was developed/made by Massive Entertainment. Money aside, I'd still imagine being developed in different places is the reason the characters look much closer to the actors in one game than the other.

It's not a requirement that game characters have to bear their voice/mocap actor likeness.
This was never a thing 15-20 years ago
Valve even 'casts' models for the likeness separately from the voice actors

And how often do game actors even get to reprise their role in live action?

I always suspected that the clone wars/rebels shows had dreams of converting their characters into live action. I suspect the same might have been true for video game characters.

Granted at the time under LF this would have meant movies or their cancelled live action series. Say what you will about Disney the live action stuff wasn’t a realistic idea until they took over. 🤷‍♂️

In the Sacred Timeline where Harambe lived, we would have had the Underworld show
Lucas would have kept doing this until he is 90
Disney would have died an even quicker death than they're already doing
Dark Horse released yet another acclaimed brand new storyline set in an interesting new era
KotOR 3, Battlefront 5, Jedi Academy 2: Jedi Master, Imperial Commando, 1313, Pod Racer 3 and brand new game IP SW Wanderer (a true open world RPG with branching stories) are released with raving accolades

I'm sorry, I must've dozed off there

True, it was done fairly rarely in the early days except when it came to specific IP's, TFU for example had Witwer's likeness in 2008. I do believe it's done if said Licensee intends to use said character in live action Canon eventually. I think it's become more prevalent now days to help sell more games same way they sold movies "star power", by having a recognizable and potentially popular actor attached. Personally I've always preferred games where you get to make your own character but that doesn't benefit the studio if they ever want to adapt it, it also creates an issue with dialog and other interacting factors when it's not a set factory default character. So I do see why studios choose the preset character path as it's easier to create the world around a specific gender or look. Cut scenes for example can be problematic when you create some wild out there character design as that means they have to store said look in the game memory somewhere or don't include your character in a cut scene at all.

With Star Wars in particular I believe they want a pre set characters, such as with Revan as it has the potential of enduring fandom over the years and is easier marketed. If Revan wasn't defined and you were able to create any look for him, including the species such as Rodian etc. that creates problems when it comes to an established look to market around. It would have meant no action figure due to the infinite alien designs numerous fans would have created. Even Mass Effect while you could choose gender and customize the character's look a bit, regardless it still had bult in parameters for their look because of the titular story. Which required the game to have two campaigns so that the NPC's knew how to address you etc. that costs time and money.

I do think the Aphra character is interesting enough to make a live action appearance, she's just different enough to add something fresh though still reminiscent to a character type. Unfortunately I think Disney would just make her as boring on screen as they have others due to the limited talent pool.

Aphra's got that lovable Indy/Jack Sparrow scoundrel thing going on which is very rare for female leads in tv/film

It's a shame she's not even on Disney's radar. I'm convinced Kennedy's not even aware she exists

Black Krrsantan made it to TV though, so maybe there's a chance. Well, a version of him did, anyway. And Cobb Vanth made the jump from a novel, too. I have no clue how faithful they kept him, but he made it.

That's funny, there's a fresh rumor Chloe Bennett will play Aphra in a forthcoming show.

Interesting, I never read Aphra so I don't have sense of her character so I don't know if Chloe Bennett would be good casting or not. I wasn't the biggest fan of her "Quake", but it was passable. I also don't think she had the facial features for Aphra and she might be too old for the character.
Lana Condor looks the most like her in the face but I haven't see her in much.

Chloe Bennet would be a remarkably good casting for Aphra. She has the same facial structure and appearance.

Chloe Bennet is rumored to be playing Doctor Aphra for a new Star Wars project.jpg

she might be too old for the character.

Aphra was born 24 BBY making her 24 years old during her comicbook debut. However, any appearance of Aphra in live-action is likely to be set in the Mando-verse, set 9 ABY. Which would make Aphra 33 years old during that era. Chloe Bennet is also 33 years old, so she's definitely not too old for the character.

Kellie Marie Tran was wasted on Rose, she looks exactly like that comic panel

I heard Margaret Cho was asked, but she preferred to be cast as an Imperial officer.

I got another slightly dusty Aphra set for 50 euros including postage costs in December.
In my view we need her (or her head) without the cap and with a different facial impression.

But overall, I like this set with her droids, who are basically main characters in the Doctor Aphra stories.
