Disney Pulls The Plug On The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser

I think Disney will just do a "Space Themed" hotel that could feature both Lightyear and Star Wars as well as other Space properties that Disney owns as well like Guardians of the Galaxy.
Maybe but not with the Halcyon space. They're taking a massive take write-off on the starcruiser. It's going to sit there empty for a long, long time.

Well, all the remaining cruises sold out today. I had a thought of maybe trying to go a second time, but oh, well.....

Sorry for the late reply to an older thread. But personally I gave up on immersion in Star Wars. And I think that’s part of the problem. You can’t achieve immersion because Star Wars itself is fake.

For the cost of going here you could’ve fully kitted yourself out for reenacting (a notoriously expensive hobby) and actually be halfways immersed in something. Ie, you can actually shoot a musket. Whereas I still haven’t found a replica blaster that’s so realistic I can take it to the target range and go deer hunting with it. You actually can go and sleep in a period tent with the bedding a civil war or rev war soldier would’ve had: you can’t go sleep on a real Mon Calamari cruiser or whatever. You can ride a real horse or see some live chickens wandering around the event site: but you can’t encounter any real SW aliens.

It’s just way too much money to spend on an impossible goal. You can’t actually recreate a bygone era but you can hit like 50% immersion in my opinion. Whereas with Star Wars I feel like the immersion is, best case, in the low single digits.

My 8 year old son would disagree with you 100%. He talks about it to this day. Seeing it through his eyes his dad would also disagree with you. Watching him experience the halcyon was pure gold. Absolutely priceless.

Kids get immersion from a much lower level. My kids thought the 501st visiting our local library was real at one point. Course if I lived in a sparsely populated area where that wasn’t an option, the hotel might look better.

A trip to the pyramids of Giza is also priceless. And way more real. Ten years ago I think my week long all inclusive Nile cruise was $2k. There’s some pretty awesome competition in the tourist world once you’re willing to spend a few grand. Just because it’s priceless doesn’t mean Disney hasn’t priced too many people out to keep it running.
