Darth Vader - ROTS - #26 / #03

My aunt is a taylor, I gave her homework to find me some fabric with the necessary qualities :) She gave me 5 or 6 samples, one of them was perfect. But the material is used for protective bags (not sure what is the right way to call them) for sunglasses. It's a bit elastic and makes nice folds. I used it a few years ago for Senate duel Palpatine... So mabe you could change in some optic stores?!

I found some 10" x 10" black microfiber online. Comes in a 10 pack so I'll have some room for trial and error. Just need to get a circle to help with the cutting.

The Saga Collection Death Star II Duel Vader figure I dont think its plastic skirt is removeable. The cape is though but not the plastic skirt.

All skirts are removable you just have to crack open the torso. Second skill you learn in customizing, right after the boil and pop.

Nice to see it's been modified. I might collect one even though i already have two of the earlier release.

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines... I'm tempted myself to grab a second one, I love this figure!

I haven't looked too closely at this figure yet, does this figure look accurate to ROTS or do you think it could pass for an ESB Vader. I like the look of the chest and shoulders but I'm not sure the head is close enough to ESB for me to want this guy.

I use this black series rots vader as my empire strikes back Vader figure. Going to paint the shoulders black with some testors model paint

Anyone have suggestions on how to fix the skirt/cod piece overlap. It's the only thing that lets the figure down in my eyes.

Yes, I made little cuts with a sharp blade under the belt and tucked the "skirt" part there. And before that I re-cut and swed it so it's not so flaring to the sides. I'm not sure if it can be seen, but here's a pic, I posted it earlier somewhere here.

Just be careful about this "Wonderful" news about Vader's neck issue being fixed. I bought both new "date stamped" versions of the #3 Vader and both had the same old stupid short neck post! I feel like I'm just throwing away money looking for this so called "corrected version". :(

Thanks for the heads up (no pun intended). Both blue cards i assume? I actually finally got one with a decent neck from wave 5. I bought a new one but haven't opened it cause it's got the old date stamp. 42091 I think. I think I'll just keep it packaged and drop it off at a toys for tots box since it's probably not improved.

Lol, should have been intended because that was funny. Yes, both blue cards. I thought this was great news but sadly it's not true. I will NOT buy another!

Hi, new to this thread. This may have already been discussed.

I recently bought Darth Vader #3 (#23 repack) and I was quite impressed with the ankle articulation used, which has been common on the 6 inch figures. I think it works well on this figure.
However, I was not impressed with the lack of bend in the knees, they only bend back about 45 degrees. This also happens on the Luke Dagobah #21
This seems to be happening more often. Hasbro seem to pay more attention to the articulation in a particular part of the body (such as the dreadful double joint elbows* on Luke Dagobah)
while neglecting the overall articulation in the design stage of the sculpt.

Sorry, that should have been #26 repack

Should have heeded your advice. Just picked up the new date stamp one and this one seems to be the worst one yet. Can barely get the head to stay on. Ha. Picked up Luke Hoth though so that took the sting away.

So some people have gotten the higher neck posts on the older orange cards and vice-versa? Hmmm. That kind of sucks now. I actually bought two #26s awhile back and bother have the stub for a post (both were made on June 9th).

Except for the head falling off at the slightest breeze, I really like this figure.

My understanding was people were finding the higher neck post on the blue card with the date stamp 42161 but myself and another board member got one and they aren't any different. I think some of the reports about the fix are a bit premature.
My third orange card vader happened to be the best one I got for whatever reason.
Comparing my two the posts are the same but the new helmet seems deformed at the bottom where it attaches--this one is actually the worst one yet for me. I think a lot of these vaders were put together while the plastic was still warm and the neck joints and opening in the helmet lost some of the shape which maybe compounds the falling off head problem.

I just boiled the neck joint and base of the helmet and then when I took the helmet out I squeezed the joint part to undo any stretching. Let the two sides cool and then put it back together. Improved things slightly.

Wow. Seriously, wow. That sucks. I honestly thought this had been fixed on the new card (from what Yakface had reported).
So now I guess any of us who are interested in this one will have to wait and see how this turns out.
I almost picked this one up recently, but just decided to leave it. I was already buying a Starkiller and another Hoth Luke.
I thought, hmmmm, $30 here......nah....bye Vader!

That aside, I'd take return these for anyone who's gotten them. There's no way I'd keep this. And we shouldn't have to do any "fixes" like those you mentioned, i_know. Totally unacceptable.

What was the stamp# on your most recent orange Vader that had a bigger post, I Know?

It didn't have a bigger post the helmet just stayed on far better than the previous 2. I picked it up when HTS got there wave 5 figures in stock (the previous 2 vaders were from the first batch from EE who got the wave first). Just luck of the draw was the way I saw it. The helmet actually seemed to grip the strange new joint hasbro made. I'll try to photograph the two helmets but not sure if the difference will be visible though.

I was thrilled to find this guy on the blue card at TRU today after hearing of the head joint fix. and just as I pushed the figure out of its bubble tray… off goes his head. Like others The neck joint on this release was still the stubby one from the previous release and not the new fixed one :(

So is there really a fix, or did Yakface and JTA get lucky with maybe a batch that had had a little extra plastic on the post??

I now dub this...Neckgate!

It looked MUCH bigger, so I'm sure it's the real deal. But I'm afraid it's just randomly mixed in.

I've got a feeling all this comes down to luck and as to the position that the factory glue in the neck post, similar to how we had all sorts of variations on Mara's hair placement in wave 2. Be nice if it was done on purpose though.

That's my thinking. Here are the two bodies and heads. Left in both cases is wave 5 vader. Right is wave 6 with 42161 date stamp. The one on the right is maybe a hair higher but nowhere close to what was reported on yakface.
I have to say that the boiling really helped. Out of the package the wave 6 head refused to stay on but now it stays on pretty well. I know it's a pain in the neck (pun intended) but it's worth it if the problem is really severe cause the figure is awesome. I have to say I'm still probably partial to VC93 since it's OT though.

And the heads. Right one is wave 6 and seems to have more plastic warping. Apologies for the fingernail close up!

Saw one falling part inside the card in K-Mart earlier . The new package one with the tie pilot helmet and blue on the back.

Grabbed a Vader with the 216 date stamp, and noticed no difference from the Wave 5 version. Oh well, to the extras bin with him. If i find one with a later date stamp than 216, then I'll try again. So these were made around the first week of August?

I must have gotten lucky on this one. I pre ordered four of these guys when they were still on the orange card. The two that i have opened so far have had heads that stay on.

I always wondered how you guys read those datestamps? I mean how do you conclude when the figure was made? Could you give me an example?

Here is an example, if a figure has a date stamp of 40011 it would mean it was made on January 1st of 2014.

Basically the first number 40011 is the second number of the year it was made.
The next set of three number 4001 is the day of the year, so the 1st of January would be 001, December 31st would be 365.
And the final number 40011 is the shift or batch number it was made on. If I remember right, this number is always a 1 or a 2. Not really important.

Although I'm a big fan of the removable helmet Vader, looking forward to picking this one up sometimes for the lack of upper-body softgoods.
