Darth Vader is a no brainer really for this line and should be released in the near future, so here is where we can discuss what we'd like to see in a 6" Darth Vader figure.

What movie should they base him off as his appearance changed through all the films and what accessories/features should be included?

You think by the time we get Vader Hasbro might switch up the colors for the Black Series packaging? Don't get me wrong I dig the look of this series, but Vader is going to be almost invisible in this look. We have all seen it in the smaller scale you can barely see him.

Id want an ESB ver. As thats the most common theme arising right now.... As for th blister just have

I would love to see an accurate, and I cant stress that enough, accurate ANH vader with thick robes that dont let all the light through like a thin tissue. I'd like the figure to not be so skinny like the 3 3/4 figures are, give him the appropriate bulk like Prowes had. Let his right hand hold a saber, include the hilt and give him a belt hook, a few different hands would be awesome for different poses. I'd really really like the figure to be able to rest his hands on his belt boxes like Vader did in the movies for that iconic pose

I really dig the way you think Spooky, ALL THAT and MORE!!!

Ok well, start with the aforementioned New Hope Vader. Add a RotJ head that has removable top piece of helmet. Add a RotJ Shaw head. Add multiple hand gestures such as force choke, bespin blaster deflect, belt box resting, lightsaber grasp, and power of the dark side grip. Real cape as mentioned, that isn't crappy. Add lightsabers lit and unlit. Now if they really wanted to go all out, add a emperor lightning attack head and even possibly the different versions of his chest armor.

All that stuff wouldn't fit in the box. Just give me ANH Vader with all the fixings

Get a bigger box.

I do expect Vader to be epic though. Not sure what they have planned, but I for one would love to see them go all out, even if it doesn't work with the $20 price point. Give me the "ultimate" Vader with a meditation chamber and I'm happy.

That would be the SHIZ to get the chamber, really doubt that for the initial Vader. But since Hasbro is doing vehicles for this line maybe JUST maybe they will give use the chamber.

Maybe they could send him out with 4 different heads, Fresh crispy, old scarred, Force lightning skull, and normal....That would be awesome! They had 2 heads for Maul granted one was attached to the cape. I second the different hands and a meditation chamber would rock!!!

in order to do that the under robes and shoulder armor would need to be removeable so you could have both versions since he wore the robe over the armor in ANH and under it in ROTJ

This is a very TRUE fact that never dawned on me Spooky. This would make for some very amazing variations if Hasbro would give us this.

THIS!! And give us two heads. ANH helmet and ROTJ helmet, with Shaw under the dome!!

I would prefer it if Hasbro just released a basic ANH Vader for the first figure. Then, later on down the road, we could get another version of Vader in his ROTJ armor with the removable helmet and a Sebastian Shaw head underneath.

Sure, that means people would have to buy two Vaders, but I would prefer multiple releases instead of Hasbro attempting to make one version that can "do it all" and ends up failing on every level.

I can't see any reason why Hasbro would want to give us all 4 heads with one figure unless the line suffered or they were planning on phasing it out anyway. That would limit their desire to release four different figures (and bring in more dollars with each release).

Like you, I prefer getting different Vaders staggered over time...

I think I'd be happy with a screen accurate ANH Vader for the first one, so long as he can hold his lightsaber two handed. And I do like the "Belt Box Pose" idea, do that too Hasbro. I wonder if he'll be able to cross his arms?
For accessories, maybe "Dr. Ball - Interregator Droid", OB1s Saber, maybe an open hand for some chokage? I say the 3 piece removable helmet, green lightning skull, severed wrist stuff can wait for the next go round.

I just hope this Vader can be put into the poses that helps to define his character(hands on belt boxes pose, force choking, reaching/beckoning to Luke etc). Also, I hope the figures silhouette looks like Vaders silhouette, something no 3 3/4 inch figure possesses to date. If you put a light behind the figure, it should mimic the image of Vader standing on the stairs of the carbon freeze chamber turning on his lightsaber. Again..no figure thus far has been able to pull this off. Some of the earlier non - SA figures came close. I admit I have not purchased the new 5 poa figure, so I'm not sure about that one.

It's one of the better ones in terms of sculpt, but the cape is still made from the same cheap, transparent material.

Hopefully, they tailor the cape properly and not take the lazy route like they've been doing over the last several years where they take a circle of fabric, cut it in half, hem up the side, punch a hole in it, stick it on the figure's neck and call it a day. That's NOT how Vader's cape was tailored in the films.

Even with all of these potential soft-goods shortcomings, I do not want to see a 6" Vader figure with a sculpted plastic cape. I would most likely pass on the figure and just not have a Darth Vader in my collection if Hasbro releases it with a sculpted cape.

An "all-in-one" Vader is simply not going to happen at the $20 price point.

The only parts that could be used for all four versions of Vader are legs, hips, left arm, and cape.

ROTS:
Torso with one-piece armor, over the shoulders
Three-piece symmetrical helmet
Hayden Christensen head

ANH
Asymmetrical helmet
Separate shoulder and torso armor
Robes over armor
Unique chest box
"Worn" look

ESB
Different paint and coloring to helmet
Different chest box
Clean armor
Back of head visible without helmet
Wounded right arm

ROTJ
Fourth unique chest box
Removable right hand
Three-part helmet and mask
Sebastian Shaw head

You then have the option of the electric pieces, and three (possibly four, depending on the level of detail) different lightsabers.

If done right a soft plastic cape would be fine for me on Vader. If it is the thin almost vinyl material that they used on the Maul cloak I think it could work.

I would hate to have a great sculpt and have it look cheap with a transparent non-form fitting material cape.

I guess I'm just not THAT picky. To me, they are all close enough to pass off one figure. I know there are subtle differences to each costume, but to expect different paint on a chest box seems a bit much. A few different hands, and a couple different helmets and I would be more than happy.

I never could understand why there are so many differences. Lucas knew he was going to make Jedi, so why didn't they just use the same suit from Empire? They have every costume in the archives anyway! Vader really should not have changed from one movie to the next.

The only difference between ESB and ROTJ (that I know of) is the slight difference in the chest box prop, as far as the costume goes.

They had to use a different helmet (though probably only for the disassembly scene), and the rest are just changes that would have to be made for the action figure.

If we're going to call for an "ultimate" version of a character, and then not be picky about details, why ask for an ultimate version?

ESB and ROTJ can be considered the same costume, if you don't care about the arm wound (many won't). The head could have the helmet removed to show the back like in ESB, with the mask coming off separately for ROTJ.

ANH is a noticable difference, because of the robes going over the armor, and having a matte helmet instead of the gloss. ROTS is closer to ESB and ROTJ, design-wise, but still different enough that it couldn't be passed off as the same.

Yeah, the differences in the ESB and ROTJ armor are really too minor to justify a completely separate figure. An arm wound is definitely not enough incentive for me to buy a separate version.

I wouldn't be too worried about it either. If they do one figure with all of the ROTJ features (except the lightning, if course), it's good enough for me for both movies. If they included a slashed arm, that would be a nice bonus.

But ROTS and ANH are too different to ignore, or to claim that one figure covers them all.

With Bespin Luke coming soon, an ESB/ROTJ is the best choice to make, but I do hope they do both OT versions. Vader in ROTS is so minor, it doesn't matter to me if they make one or not.

the helmet in ANH was considerably different then the ones in ESB and ROTJ and I think but not sure that the shoulder armor was different as well and the chest box and belt boxes

That's why I was saying two helmets. A New Hope and Empire /Jedi. Preferably with removeable dome and the Shaw head.

I'm expecting it to be ANH Vader with Obi-Wan in the same case.

Im expecting it to be Vader in wave three. No matter what anyone else says about Anakin. Vader vs Bespin Luke, the obvious pairing.

Because ESB and ROTJ Vader are pretty close, I could see the first release being an ESB/ROTJ hybrid, with removable helmet, Shaw's head underneath, alternate wounded arm, and maybe a couple alternate hands for different gestures. This would pair up well with Bespin Luke, and then (be still my heart!) maybe we'll get a Jedi Luke soon as well. o-o (Though we have already gotten two Lukes in three waves.)

Problem is, there may not be enough "extras" to justify a separate ANH Vader. Maybe a mouse droid and interrogation droid?

Either way, I also really want to see a cloth cape and NOT molded plastic on any Vaders in this scale. The robes will be tricky, but I'd probably prefer to see these be cloth as well.

...and no giant chain. Seriously, where did that even come from? I don't remember ever seeing Vader with bling.

Well if Lucas didn't sell off SW he would have re-re-re-re-released the original trilogy (whew) & CGI the new Vader chain bling......

Further to the hunch I have about Vader being the last figure in the third wave, why would Hasbro wait so long to announce a figure as underwhelming (sorry PT guys) as PT Anakin?

Maybe just wishful thinking to actually get your hopes up that he'll be in Wave 3. The reason they didn't show Anakin is he's not done! They were busy sculpting and painting all the other figures we got to see!

As for the topic at hand, I'd be really happy with a ROTJ version. As others have said, ESB was close enough. And only in ROTJ did he really have different "looks" within the movie. I'd love a removable helmet, or even an unmasked head and a masked head, since the removable ones tend to not work so well. And a severed stump hand with wires.

As for the cape? I hope it's a thin rubber/plastic piece. A big floppy cloth cape would look just as terrible as on the small figures. They simply can't or won't tailor the materials well enough to look good. And yeah, no need for a neck chain...although I DID notice it a lot last time I watched ANH...

I hope they go with a rotj version with the severed gauntlet and if they can do it right a removable helmet
