It looks like it retailed for $99.99 here in the US. I think I picked up a second one on clearance for $50, which is why I have that number stuck in my head. Regardless, this costs more and has worse customer support for a known issue.
You know, now that you mention it, I believe you're right, and my memory was playing tricks on me. I went to audition for being a background extra in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland in October 2008, and was called back for the second day of casting rounds. I didn't get a part, but I went into the Toys 'R' Us which was right next to the multi-storey car park where I parked, and over the course of two days, walked out with a BMF, an AT-TE, a Green Leader A-Wing, and two of the then-brand-new Big-Wing TIE Fighters.
I think I got the AT-TE cost (£100) mixed up with the BMF cost (£150), and then conflated the BMF's price with both of their prices combined, because I thought it was £250.
Darned good couple days of shopping, though! That Plymouth TRU had freakin' SDCC exclusives from previous years that I'd already gotten from BBTS, including the McQuarrie Concept R2 & 3PO and Obi-Wan & Yoda!
None of which excuses the fact that the new DVTF costs more than the AT-TE, is smaller, has no electronics or action features, and is missing that blasted control yoke targeting sticker!!!
