Re: Darth Dark Sidious?????

"Dark" is apparently some kind of translation of "Darth" for the Europeans. The reason it just says Darth Dark SIdious is because on the Euro Tri Logo Cards we don't get titles: by this I mean Obi Wan Kenobi:Jedi Duel is just Obi Wan Kenobi in the UK/Europe.

Re: Darth Dark Sidious?????

"Dark" is the French version of the Sith title "Darth." If you look, you can find carded examples of "Dark Vador" or "Dark Maul" on the package of some figures with multi-lingual logos. Not really a "true variation," just a regional packaging difference.

Other fun name variations include the Italian Power FX R2-D2 known, for some reason, as C1-P8. Odd, considering in Eurpoean multi-lingual catalogs, I've never seen him known as anything other than R2-D2. Also, C-3PO has been seen in some Hasbro pack-in Episode I catalogs as B3-DO. I'm assuming this is another Italian name change, but I have yet to have this confirmed.

As a French Canadian, I can tell you this is really a European version, cuz here, we use the same title as in English...It just look too ugly when I hear "DARK VadOR"...ahhh...these Europeans...

Actually, there is something to this. In Dutch, "Vader" translates to "Father". So Darth Vader = Dark Father...hmmm.

I wonder...and I don't know Italian really, but maybe the names have more meaning when phoeneticized, perhaps they're puns or something...whereas we spell it out "artoo-deetoo" mybe the droids are "ci-uno-pi-otto" (chee-uno-pee-otto) and "be-tre-di-oh" (bay-tray-dee-oh...and that "oh" could also be zero, I dunno). I may be overanalizing it, but if anyone knwos Italian, maybe there was a good reason for it.

That's a darn good point, Sturm-und-Drangtrooper.

But still, why the name change? I know a few foul expressions in several languages, but I don't recall "Artu di tu!" or "Si thripio!" being obscene phrases in Italian.

Yes, to any fluent speakers of Italian, please let us know!

Darth Sidious turning a different color?

I recently unpacked some of my Episode 1 figures (which were packed away correctly, and in a safe place), and discovered that the episode 1 Darth Sidious has a blue hue to it. Are any of yours turning blue as well?

Re: Darth Sidious turning a different color?

I just opened up my Episode 1 figures a few weeks ago, since most of them are worth a big fat goose egg. I noticed the blue hues on my Sidious and I just assumed it was suppossed to be that way. I think it looks pretty sweet compared to all black.

I have a loose and a carded Sidious (both of which have been displayed/stored away from direct sunlight) and both have the colouring you describe.

For continental europe I think, it is Dark
For the US and UK is is Darth

For Germany it's still 'Darth' in the movies but we have to live with the 'Dark' version of the figures.

Darth Sidious errors with a real twist....

Hiya guys!! Here are a couple of my fave erors, and two which cost me a couple of quid each (the seller who sold me the spanish sid/palp sent me a norman carded palpy at first, then sent me the correct one, and let me keep the wrong item for free, so double bonus) Without further ado, here is a peek at a couple of portentious figure errors, which kinda tell the future, from way back in 1999.

senator palpatine on tri logo darth sidious card

Well it's pretty near must say. Lucas would've been spewing if it happened in the US...while we all knew it Im sure he'd at least like to have kept it more under wraps just so we could've all been wowed

it's funny but this is the best version of Darth Sidious to date. I even still use it for My Emperor Palpatine from time to time.
