It has been confirmed we'll be seeing everyone's favourite Sith Lord who couldn't get a word in - Darth Maul in the first wave of 6 inch Black Wave figures.

I wonder if they'll just go for him in his Tatooine garb - robe, probe droid, lightsaber, wrist link etc?

Discuss your thoughts on seeing Darth Maul in this scale.

I'm really hoping for a closed-mouth, staring expression on him. Or alternatively, a second head sculpt with glaring teeth.
A Sith Probe Droid would make for a good accessory, too. Oh, and metal Lightsaber hilts!

But hang on, I'm not going to commit to this line yet. And I'm not liking Hasbro's decision to mainly focus on OT characters. Not much of a balance there from the get-go.

If he looks just like the on screen appearance like Luke does then I'm definitely getting it.

This would be the only one of the first four that I would consider getting. Most likely a pass, though, as I'm just not interested in a new scale.

Since it's a larger scale they should use soft goods for greater movement.

I would definitely prefer no soft goods, but since I don't have a lot of interest in the scale, my opinion probably doesn't matter as much. ;)

This is the only figure from the first four announced that I will most likely pass on. If I am going to collect a 6" line, then I would only want to focus on OT characters.

What's the point of super-articulation without soft goods? Jedi and Sith would be nothing but statues. What I'd really love would be a bendy wire incorporated into cloth capes and robes so we can pose them flowing or laying or however.

That's my thought as well. I like the prequels, and I collect the figures and vehicles, but for anything bigger or more expensive I'm limited to original trilogy... Mostly. I have prequel props, but I'm only buying original trilogy LEGO. Also, I only have Clone Wars figures of the original trilogy characters. I just need Sidious and the Jawas.

Definitely excited to see this one, but confused by the article mentioning the focus in on Original Trilogy. A small part of me thinks they meant Vader, but that would be a really bizarre mistake to make.

At this scale, soft goods may not be necessary, depending on how flexible and layered the skirt pieces are. 6 inch figures can manage a bit more complex stuff like that.

That's funny, I was just thinking about how awesome that decision was. I'm probably gonna grab Darth Maul for the kids.

Seeing if they use soft goods, and how well they are executed, is the only reason I'm looking forward to this figure.

Ugh... I really hope they don't use soft-goods in this line. Keep the quality consistent. ;)

2 Heads - closed mouth and snarling expression
Chrome lightsabre hilt
Cloth cape
Probe Droid

here's a crazy question..... is Darth Maul going to be based on his appearence in TPM or his look now in the CW? remember Hasbro has about 4 different versions of Maul they can use.

TPM - classic Sith Lord look with double bladed lightsaber and cloak
CW - Spider mode
CW - robotic legs version from the nightsisters
CW - new version from the Mandolorian Arc

I'm hoping that they choose TPM version personally but I wouldn't mind seeing a Spider Maul as well as either a CW wave figure or a possible mail in concept

Yes, please be a accurate Episode I version.. No "Magic Mike" Maul. I'm so tired of him being shirtless.

There's no doubt they will do TPM. Not everyone watches the CW. You can't expect to see those others 5 years from now if this line takes off.

Probably because the line is more for us older collector types who do seem to be a bit more in favor of OT vs other eras. I'd be perfectly happy if they contine on doing 3 OT and 1 PT per wave.

I am hoping with the limited numbers in this line they don't jump all over the place though. Have characters that go together come out in the same wave or in sequential waves. Something like making the wave 2 and 3 PT characters be Qui-Gon then Obi-Wan or putting C-3PO in wave 2 to go with R2. Put out Han/Chewie close together or Old Ben and Vader.

TCW show can't decide on how Maul is supposed to look now. He's going into his 3rd look in almost as many shows. I can't see this being anything but the regular TPM Maul. And I will be very excited to see an all out movie version Maul with switchable saber, and soft goods cloth and cloak for limitless fighting stances. My boys willl be more excited about this one than me but still a buy I'm sure.

Clearly the easiest pass of the wave. No more prequel figures for me.

On top of this, Hasbro already produced a 6" scale Maul figure:

Yes they have however Hasbro have come a long way since then, detail and articulation has improved greatly so the new version is going to make that version look like Bantha poodoo (which it was to begin with).

I'm still like TPM Maul a lot but the Clone Wars has made him one of the best villains in SW IMO now. Maul with his Shades of reason/Eminence appearance and Savage would be great additions to this line way down the road IMO.

I'm up for this for certain! I've got a feeling that it's going to look phenomenal. I'd love to see the CW versions down the road too.

Hey now, that figure was AWESOME! ...if you replaced his lightsaber with a guitar accessory from a similarly-scaled figure. I gave him Otto's guitar from The Simpsons, but there were KISS figures out around then, too, and Floyd Pepper from Palisades' The Muppets. With an 'axe' in his hand, that Maul was GREAT! He could wail on the guitar with that action feature. :awesome:

I hope he turns out as good as the preliminary pictures of Luke look!!!! Personally, I'd like him with cloth goods like the VC figure, but with much better fabric of course!!! I think it would be cool if maybe they made each half of his saber magnetic to connect or seperate them!!!! Really looking forward to this one!!!

That's a good idea. I hope they do that to or just include a full saber and half a saber.

I've kind of switched to just villains and some of their ships, so I'll definately be getting Maul. Been hoping for a line like this since the McFarlane 90's lol

Yeah, I'm a bit baffled. Hasbro seems CONVINCED that we love Maul, and sure, some people do. But despite him having been specifically engineered to be a Fan Favorite (TM), the fact is that TPM and the prequels in general have never quite caught fire the way the OT did. The TPM debacle of 1999 was repeated with its diminished 3-D showing and the disappointing toy sales that went along with it. However vocal the minority of Maul fans may be, that doesn't change the massive tons of pegwarming Maul figures a year ago.

I can understanding parsing out the Best Figures over time, so maybe we weren't gonna get Vader or Fett in this first wave. But Maul? Really? It just seems odd to return to the TPM well so soon after that really underperformed.

Maul is on the Fett level, so any new line of action figures, statues, busts or whatever will absolutely have to have him. It would be like launching a new Star Wars toy line and saying there would be no Boba Fett because he wasn't a central character.

But that's kind of my point -- Hasbro seems sure that Maul is on the Fett level, but is he? His figures seem to pegwarm, as does all TPM product. I just wonder why they need to lead with him.

Plus, I never said he shouldn't be included eventually. But when you start with only very few figures, he's an odd choice to make. Really, any TPM figure should probably have been avoided, given sales on TPM product. If there needs to be a prequel character, why not Anakin?

They're probably just trying to cover a wide area with their first release. Instead of just making Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Vader and a Stormtrooper, which would make it feel like 1978 again. They need to include at least one Prequel character with the launch, and Maul probably has the biggest fanbase. Personally, I would have gone with Darth Sidious, but I have a Sidious bias lol. It will be cool if they ever get to hologram figures. The TPM Sidious holo figure is one of my all-time favorites. Also looking forward to seeing some "short figures" like Yoda. I'm guessing he'll be close to whatever Artoo looks like.

I don't think they're concerned about Prequel figures not selling. Candy-colored clones, Jango, Sith Lords, background Jedi, hot Jedi chicks, Grievous, Mace Windu, Seperatists, etc. Make them available and they'll sell.

Sure it's harder to move Dex or some Senator or Watto, but that's no different than Aunt Beru or a Hoth Rebel or some B-Wing pilot. Each trilogy has movers and peg-warmers.
