Hey guys, so with the cantina being all but officially confirmed as the next Haslab, I'm thinking ahead for ways to try to fill it up with unmade characters. I do already have my own that I made, which I'm pretty happy with, but it will likely be used as an 'alternate universe' cantina filled with random aliens and such once the Haslab version ships.

Anyway, since I'm not really experienced with customizing figures in any serious way, I was trying to think of what the easiest customs would be, and these are the three I could think of off the top of my head:

Lirin Car'n: generic Jedi body, Bith hands and head
Chachi De Maal: generic Jedi body, Duros hands and head
'Spaceman': Boshek hands/feet/helmet, Bossk body

I know these recipes have been around for awhile and I'll probably go with them unless someone has any better variations. But I'm wondering what recipes you guys might have to share for some of the other characters. I know there are a lot of great ones out there already made, but they're scattered across the internet and I thought it would be cool to kind of have them collected in one place. I remember there used to be a site or two dedicated to this, but I'm having trouble finding them now.

So any ideas, guys? Or resources/links to share, on this topic?

You'll need to take a look at @Tulgah Cantina pics. He has some awesomely random aliens from all different lines that fit well in his cantina.

You implied you may only be requesting recipes for known charactures, but if you have the space, it's always a treat to sneak a few cross-line aliens into the mix.

I mostly customize vintage, but I'll have to think about some modern recipes to share, just because I love the subject!

Yeah, Tulgah definitely does some great work. And yeah, my main interest is filling out the OT cantina first, but I'm always on the lookout for cool-looking aliens to populate the EU/Alternate universe one!

Figrin head and hands in a wandering Obi Wan is easy for a Lirin. The neckline’s not accurate but it still looks good.

For Cantina Dude, a Saga Legends Bossk with gloves from a TVC B-wing pilot is a good starting point. You can sand the scales off of Bossk’s shins and they’ll look (sorta) like boot tops. Replace his croco-feet with boot feet and you’re a head swap away.

For Chachi/Baniss I used a comic pack Owen with the Duro head and hands. Owen's pricey now but any generic Jedi would probably work fine. A word of advice on hand swaps - For my Baniss, I cut and carved the wrist pegs from his forearms. Don't do that, too much work and too easy to screw up. Make a set of pegs from donor hands and superglue them. Works great and much easier.

There was a hunchback that was just a tan snaggletooth costume. Reaction POTApes is an exact spacer.

The first two I made were a random moisture farmer and Lirin C'arn.

I took an Episode II Owen body and put Bith heads and hands on it from the most recent cantina band figure.

The moisture farmer is another Owen's body, a Rebel Fleet Trooper head, and Owen's coat. So this takes two Owen figures.

Unfortunately, the Owen figures aren't cheap. As has been said, you could probably just use a random Jedi body.

The nice thing about these two figures was that there was no painting.

For Debnoli, I got a General Zod head, put it on a peasant Anakin body, and another Episode II Owen coat. But I used nail polish remover to take off a lot of Zod's hair to make him balding.

Melas used the Ketwol body. I turned the head around for the "back of the mask" different character. I cut off the tusky protrusion things and painted that area black. I cut up part of a t-shirt and made the turban (glued to the head). He is wearing a peasant Anakin poncho and a Naboo pilot coat. He's holding a Dannik Jerriko pipe.

The Fly guy uses a Rose Tico body and Walrusman flippers. I used a generic fly toy that I cut the had off and re-painted the eyes. The "tusks" are part of an elephant toy and the antennae type mustache like thing is also part of the fly toy. Hopefully Hasbro will give us the fly as part of the cantina!

Ranat the Reegesk has a ReAction wolfman body (not that it matters what the boy looks like), but it had the right hands. The cloak is an Obi-wan cloak. The head is a Schleich beaver. Cutting the head off on that toy was not easy.

The two alternate Gotals. You need Feltipern Trevagg figures, which aren't cheap. One uses a Jeremoch Colton body.

The other uses the full Feltipern body with a sewed together Jedi cloak (I think from the Naboo accessory pack. The bottom skirt is a glasses or screen wipe.

Jenny is a Reaction Lt. Uhura figure body. I had to paint the hands and legs. I mostly removed the Starfleet symbol with paint remover. I believe the skirt belongs to Saesee Tiin. The head is Marion Ravenwood.

The two Lutrillians are Jurassic Park Dennis Nedry figures with the body around the jacket painted. The bodies aren't entirely accurate to the film as the actual characters are bigger bodied, though that can't be seen in the film. The blue Ascot is from Marauder Gun Runners, which is an excellent resource for generic heads and various parts. The heads are customs from ebay with a bit of paint.

The two Duros not yet made by Hasbro.

The first one is a Luke body repainted with a Duros head and hands. The second is a Biggs Darklighter body repainted with a Duros head and hands. Hopefully Duros figures aren't too expensive right now with people stocking up for a cantina. Though there is another Duros on the way in the pilot pack and I suspect Hasbro will make the second Duros soon.

Four spacers.

Bossk body, Vader helmet and gloves, Boshek helmet, random head. I don't like how tall the figure and how small the head is, by I have the figure in a chair and wearing the helmet so it doesn't matter.

Spacer two is a Ripley reaction figure and a Reaction Cornelius astronaut figure helmet. The head is random and doesn't matters since the figure is helmeted.

The third is a Duros body with gloved hands put on. I think the head is an Endor soldier.

The fourth spacer is a Cornelius Planet of the Apes astronaut body, which is actually the costume used in Star Wars. These figures are exspensive. I would like to have had more of them as I think two spacers in the cantina wear this costume. The fourth helmet is Ripley's. I believe the head is from the Marauder site. This is my Danz Borin standin.

Tonnikas, which I hope Hasbro makes and I can replace in my diorama. Princess Leia collection bodies and collars repainted. Epoxy sculpt on top of heads with woven yarn glued around it for the hair. I think the leg bracelets are from Bossk or Luke Snowspeeder figures.

Bureaucrat. Krennic body with insignia removed with paint thinner. I should probably have re-painted the paints but didn't think it mattered. The head is generic from Marauders.

This guy. "Bald bureaucrat". Luke knocks over his table when Evazan throws him and the bureaucrat walks by the exit to the cantina right when Han leaves.

It is a repainted Obi-wan body and a Charles Emerson Winchester M*A*S*H figure head.

I got the recipe from No Skill Customs on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@noskillcustoms
I have watched so many of his videos. He shows recipes and figure ideas. He has an excellent video of every character in the cantina.

Garouf Lafoe. I am not happy with this figure. For one thing, I am terrible at painting eyes.

Wandering Jedi Obi-wan body. Vest from Jurassiac Park Muldoon figure. Painted custom head from ebay.

Damano Deomaley.

I am really unhappy with how this figure turned out. But he fills out the left side of the bar.

It is a Luke head on a Zett Jukassa body. I put some epoxy on the end of the nose and added some highlight to the lips.

I tried to make the coat out of fabric, to poor results.

They can't all be winners.

Davelynn Schmee. Combination Pirates of the Caribbean Mr. Gibbs and Blackbeard figures. I modified Blackbeard's beard and added some epoxy around the beard. I repainted significantly. Some Maruders accessories are glued around the belt.

This one was really difficult.

Braconner Bakiska. I made this one before I started painting. The mustache is ridiculous (though it is the character's most memorable feature. I have debated taking the mustache off and painting one on, but haven't gotten around to it.

It is a reaction Freddy Krueger head on a Tusken Raider body with Tusken Raider cloak. It is wearing a Jynn Erso hood with the back of the hood cut off and attached to the front. This was one of my first customs, and I believe I could do a better job now.

Boelo and Gella Yeens.

Boelo is a Jabba's Palace Han with a repainted shirt, a Jedi cloak with the hood cut off and a hallowed out Jawa hood. There is a Mauraders head. The bandoliers are either from Mauraders and pulled off of various figures. You end up with a lot of spare parts when making figures.

Geela Yeens is made almost entirely from Maruaders parts. He has on an Endor soldier vest. I believe his goggles are from a Hoth Luke.

You can put more than one Jawa in your scene.

I also have a concept Chewbacca and Rebel Fleet Trooper, as an alterate spacer, which I think fit in well and is a nice nod to Ralph McQuarrie.

I believe there are two of Nadrun Leids species, a Morseerian. One is at the bar and one is sitting at a booth. They likely just took the character and moved him around set for different shots, but I think it has to be two different ones because of the timing of showing one at the bar and one at the booth. Hasbro has made two different paint jobs of this figure, one white and one silver, so I have both in the scene to differentiate them.

You can argue as to how many Rodians there are in the cantina. There may have been four. I have three in my scene (Greedo, Thuku, and Neesh).

The one in the booth is not wearing a vest. I have three different versions of Greedo in the scene. The first POTF one, one of the later ones with a vest, and one of the later ones without a vest.

This is a great video, I mentioned earlier, that discusses who is where in the cantina.

I have four different Snaggletooths, the first one that came in the cantina three pack, the holiday special red jumpsuit one, the blue Snaggeltooth, and the hunchbacked Snaggleooth. I have two Saurins. I have 7 cantina band members, not counting Lirin C'arn.

I also have a few whimsical figures that don't belong there like a passed out drunk Jawa on the floor and Star Trek Gorn. They are in the backroom booths.

The Sandtroopers aren't in the cantina at the same time as the droids, and various characters like Garouf Lafoe come in or out, but I have up to 94 figures in the cantina.

These are great cantina resources:

Wow, wow, wow! Thanks for all the awesome resources. And your cantina looks amazing. I'm gonna have to search it up here in the forums. Hopefully you've already made a thread for it :)

But yeah, 94 characters - I never realized it was this many, though I shouldn't be surprised. It will take a tremendous effort for me to get to that point, but you've given me plenty of useful info to aide in that undertaking.

Characters I don't have in my cantina -

I doubt I will add them as they can't really be seen in the film. Some of them are better seen in the rough cut. None of them are particularly interesting and I can't find heads that would really represent them anyway. In theory, I might make the woman if I ever saw a robe or cloak that seemed to work for her.

This series of videos on youtube, cantina archeology really go into very fine detail on who was in the scene and who played some of the hard to see humans.
