I haven’t seen too many customs done of this deadpan droid, especially at the 3.75” scale.

Since I also wanted to get a Chopper figure too, I got the Disney Color-Changing Droids pack. Unfortunately, the RA-7 droid looked like this:

After a repaint and a different head, I got a rendition worthy of trading barbs with Chop’.

* Everything from the neck down is the Disney Color-Changing RA-7.

* The head is one of the RA-7 ones from the Build-A-Droid collections with a cut to make the eyes look like one single visor. And the neck post trimmed, and adhesive putty added to keep it in place.

Getting the paint color just right was tricky, and I know the head is not an exact match. But I’m enjoying the heck out of posing this figure.

Heck yes to custom droids, does he respond colorwise to temp change at all still?

Not anymore unfortunately.

I got a little paint on the original head. And just for “gits and shiggles,” I stuck it in the freezer. The unpainted bits of the head changed colors (to solid black), but the bits that were painted over stayed the same color.

I tried wiping/scratching off the paint slop, but I suspect I wound up removing the color changing/transparent paint in the process:

Nice! I'm rather fond of ol' AP-5, disappointed we never got an official action figure of him.

Very cool! Love the effect on the eyes! I wish they sold more well-articulated RA-7s outside frigging Disney World.

I actually bought the pack online at Shop Disney, but they seem to be out of stock at the moment.

Regarding the eyes/visor, I basically started with chrome paint. And then once it dried, I dabbed an extra layer of Tamiya clear smoke paint to get that glossy reflection going.

Neat! I didn't even know there was such a thing as clear smoke paint! Thank 'e! I'm a very big fan of the Molotw Liquid Chrome pens, though. One day, I hope to get back to my collection and do some more customising. Bloody travel restrictions . . . . 🤬
