CONTEST: Final Faction Customs

I had really hoped to have done some customizing over the Holidays. All I did was a "proof of concept" for making my 3rd kind of 4-armed Freak.

The joint pin is a plastic Chupa Chups lollipop stem.

Interesting concept of using two arms/four hands. I'd never thought of that before. I like it!

On FB, someone mentioned making a 4-armed character so I showed both my Hive Queen (4 arms/2 torsos) and my bodyguard (2 shoulders with a second pair of forearms). That inspired them to make a Griptogg from the Power Lords range. The original figure had arms like the one above.

Something I had wanted to try is using dental floss as a saw. Basically, I wanted to cut and arm like I did above, but keeping the original forearm. That way I could articualte the arm without needing a ball joint. All I would need is a pin. The arms are too thin to cut that shape easily.

Today I forced myself to play around with toys.

First up, a thing of beauty.

It's the B-52's! All 52 of them.

I feel a bit guilty having so many, but I was worried Canada wouldn't get a restock and I didn't get enough of the normal version. I need a bunch for customizing.

Next up is another flying Rumbler. Wings and tail are from a dragon.

I'm playing around here with different legs. I'm not sure which ones I will use. I can also use the decimator claws or chop up the pincers from the rumbler to make claws (like my Garthim).

Below is my next vehicle I'm making.

It's a TMNT Grapplor I picked up at a thrift shop. The snapping claws mechanism doesn't work but I intend to take the whole thing apart and see what I can do. The "head" rotates but only by hand. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep this feature as I will only be displaying it.

First up is with big wheels, like the Ravager behind it. Since it is a 2-seater, I'm thinking of giving it 2 tails. I'm also toying with the idea of taking 2 tails and chopping them up to make a longer tail, but that seems like a lot of work and when I articulated a tail, I was disappointed with the results.

Here are smaller wheels, but I don't like the look.

I thought giving it a third wheel, but again, I don't like it. I will probably chop off the legs of the Drones at the knees and attach them straight so they fit inside the vehicle (the calves and feet will definitely have to go though.)

I thought about giving it a Rumbler head to protect the drivers, but since there are 2 of them, I'm not sure if this will work. I will have to wait until I get some Venom drones and fit them in place. I think it will also interfere with the twin tails both physically and ascetically. Having just said twins, now I want to make the Dysads to use this.

I thought this might enhance the look, but will have to see later with the drivers and tails added.

I feel that the vehicle need the "Cyclops eye" weapon somewhere and the Synthoid fits in better than the Rumbler, and will distinguish this vehicle from the Ravager more.

The back looks more skull-like, but I think the "eye" is needed. Also, the Synthoid arm "eye" has a curve to it so it doesn't look good on the sides or mounted on front of the drivers.

I was playing around with different accessories to attach, but nothing thrilled me. I may use the Huntra double cannons on both sides.

Finally, I was playing with adding wings to a crawler. I didn't like the look when they faced out like on a Synthoid, but I'm not thrilled with how they are mounted here. One is mounted higher than the other. I may keep it that way, or mount them symmetrically.

I had to cut the circle ring so the wings would fit into the peg holes. If I don't use them on a crawler, I might use them as secondary wings on my flying Rumbler. I may also use one of them to make a head fin for my snake-staff (Amphistaff) that I made from a Godzilla figure. I ripped the wings off to use for my Flying Rumbler and immediately saw that the body would make a great staff for my Vong which is missing his.

Good to see you customizing FF again Utinniii!

I wish I had a couple of good suggestions, but you one step ahead of my thoughts as i was reading through your creative process.

For the first time in months, I had the energy to play around with figures and customize!

Simple Crawlers

I'll paint the synthoid guns on the first two to match the colors. I gave the third 2 extra legs and the fourth has the wings glued on.

Huntra Hybrids

The first is unfinished. I want to do something more with the head. I heated the upper "arms" and then stuck a map pin in them to make a ball joint. I left one out so you can see. There are also 2 white lollipop stems of different girths that I use to attach the bodies.

I finally finished the skull Huntra from way back. The 3rd one will look cool once I decide on the colors.

Flying Kharn

The fist is a drone (or a hover sled) and the second is a beast.

War beasts

I need to give the beak teeth (sheaf of wheat) and paint the head a different color. I'm pretty happy with how it is shaping up.
The legs of the second one are from a Stranger Things Vecna minifig. Unfortunately, they don't hold the weight, but I can use a clear sprue. The head is armor and Flea (Kreptis)

Misc Aliens

I'm still not happy with the head of the first one so will probably use it on a different body. The Decimator is nothing special but might pop more with paint. the "Horned King" head needs a body. I used bat wing charms.
I love how alien the head of the tall one looks. It is a Rumbler tail. The claw uses a Decimator claw and part of a Crawler leg. I may use a Evolution wing attachment to make a joint for the claw. I need to test it out. I'm not sure if I will use the claw or a brute hand yet. I may use that claw for something else.
I used a iridescent sticker for the giant chicken head. I have several ideas for it but wanted to finish off these first.
The last is a Kharn glider. Currently it is asymetrical but could use a second gun for the other side. The reason I didn't add the other side yet is because I am thinking of turning it into the...

Dyad with gliders

I just need to find a way to join them together. I may use the brute axe. I also discovered that the green crawler pincers make OK guns.

Way to get back in the game, Utinniii!!! Life has been too busy for me to do any customs and I crave introverted creative time.

Glad to see your post.

Life's been hitting fairly hard here, too, but I finally had a chance to work on something. Just a simple head/part swap, as a testbed for a fully painted figure.
A friend suggested the name Pyra, so I'm going with that.

I like it! I had to grab a Shift and an Evolution wing and see if I could add feathers to her arms. While it didn't work, it gave me ideas.

DT has these glasses in a few different colours. I got the bait online and I'm happy with the "worms" but will probably not use the crayfish. I'm thinking of threading a wire through the worms so I can pose them a bit.

Wire through the worms is a great idea to get some ability to pose those tentacles and should be fairly easy to accomplish. Never thought of using fishing bait.

The orange glass used with the wheels from the Kharn vehicle work nicely too!

Just waiting for some Venom Drones to drop before I give the wings (Generic Lego?) and brain (Zuru Max) a wash. The wings can move although I should trim the edges of the "backpack" to improve wing movement.

I haven't done much lately, but I finally got the right combo of weather, health, and free time to do this lava monster. It's just a custom paintjob of a Kharn Brute, but I like how it turned out. Except for the coat of grey primer, the rest is completely hand-painted.
I still need to spray a coat of clear sealer on it, but otherwise he's done.

Finally found a pack of the crawlers with the neon green legs today, I was worried the North American supply was diminished after Untinniii's haul, lol. Have you or anyone else tried giving them a dry-brushing with another color, to mute the brightness of the plastic? I'm going to add a pair to my Dark Crystal diorama, but want to customize the legs first.

I haven't tried with the green legs but I've seen it done. I will post when I eventually do it.

Some WIPs. I finally had some time!!

I decided to make these vehicles look more FF.

Mini Halloween Tape Bubblegum droid. I'll be making some probe droids as well.

I wanted to know if these wings would easily fit on a Drone. While they do not, They fit on Shift reasonably well.

I gave them a wash, not a dry brush but you can see the colors are muted. I added an unpainted Crawler for color comparison.

Finished: 6 legged Crawler; Winged Crawler; and two "Heavy Fire" Crawlers (normal and Venom)

Here are 2 more that are finished (until I get a Venom Drone to swap out).

Here's a different view of some of the above. The wings can rotate to the back.

This Synthoid variant has tendrils that can bite and trap its victims. It came out much more muted than I had envisioned.

I disassembled the Grappler and de-stickered it. I had to take the whole thing apart again to open up the grapple. I was disappointed to see that a piece is broken so they won't stay open. While I can fix it, I was hoping to have gotten farther along. I also need to remove the chair so the grapple can move past the rumbler wheels. The motor still works but I doubt it will move with the Rumbler wheels attached. We'll see.

Dollarama had these butterflies. It wouldn't be hard to make them fit on a FF figure.

My finished vehicles.

Flying drone: In my head cannon, the Kharn never had aerial combat before as they could just teleport to wherever they needed to be. Earth was a surprise to them. However, they were quick to adapt.

Perfectly-scaled wings there! No one else would see the connection. I love all these random creatures! 🤩

I scored this Zod? Pod in a thrift shop. Drones don't fiit (unless you cut off the feet).

I like the position I put the claws in as it reminds me of an insect (water bug?).
The first pic has not mods to the back and the next 2 give me choices. I'm not sure which I prefer yet.
I may do something with the very front, but I'm not sure yet.
I'm also thinking of other ways to Kharnify it some more.

Monopean Monocroned Aviating Burgundy Bioform Devourer (Pygmy)

I sliced off the ends of the legs at an angle and glued them back on. Now they reach forward more for better balance and a better look.

I love the pilot in the silver UFO. That’s what I wish the Disney Star Wars was more about—dudes like that.

He is just an Elite Steadfast figure.

I was playing with different windows (slushie lid, DT clear ornament and DT clear cup); and using a takeaway container as a base. I'll play around a bit more (DT had some plates) before I decide. The koala head is from a Kinder Egg I bought when I got the shield.

Man, I'm almost sorry I missed a whole year of activity. The stuff you made looks great Utinnii, it really evokes some of the stuff I got as hand me downs in my youth in the 90s that I regret having been forced to give away once I became a teenager.

I'm particularly liking your more organic looking rumblers, especially the flying ones. If I had a chance to drop by the United States, I might have to pick some up.

Happy New Year Everyone!

More FF figures are expected this year so hopefully this thread will see more life. Unfortunately, the Masks were a test in only a few stores and they were passed, on so we won't be seeing them in the future. I still haven't seen the last accessory pack or the Venom Drone and Rumbler waves, but I hope they become available to whomever needs them.

I looked back through this thread and saw there were so many great creations.

My New Years Resolution is to finish any of my current FF WIPS over the year.

I'm glad your back! We never saw what you did with your Diablo.

I still have all the pieces for the Kharn mutates based off of your creations. At the time I saw yours, I was so inspired that I even had backstories for the trio I wanted to make.

Unfortunately, my wife passed last year so it has been hard to get into crafting. I went back to work on them at one point but all I saw was bits of plastic, with their stories mostly forgotten. Hopefully, I will find my spark again.

I also love the rumblers. I have a few more ideas I intend to get to. One will have Dragonfly inspired wings.
