Re: Bust Ups & Mini Helmets Checklist

Is the Armory Collection the 'Mini-Helmet' line that's similar to the scale that Riddell & MR had previously?

No, the Armory Collection is 1/6th scale, which is roughly the size of a helmet that would come with a 12" figure.

Thanks _DJ_!

Is there any list of the mini helmets (.45 scale) that Gentle Giant is going to be making?

That's what I'm really looking for & can't find any info anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Bust Ups & Mini Helmets Checklist

No real list yet, but from what GG has said in different Q&A,s lately, they plan on rereleasing most of the .45 helmets we've seen so far.

ROTS White Clone
501st Clone
Shocktrooper
Fett

What I'd like to know is, why in the hell did GG paint the visor insted of actualy making it a see through plastic lens like MR did? Same goes for the mouth piece on the clone helmet, it looks to be painted on and not an actual molded part of the helmet.

The Fett is the only one with a see through visor.

The paint apps are awful. If you look close the helmets have a rough texture and not a smooth one like MR's did.

If these turn out to be the best GG can offer, I don't see myself collecting the mini helmts much longer.

Thanks for the pic's!

I'm really hoping for something new from the 1:2 scale helmet line. Nothing in those photo's interest me.

I don't need the same helmets that MR & Riddell already did?

I'm still holding out for a TIE Fighter Pilot helmet that made it to the prototype stages for Riddell & MR.

Re: Bust Ups & Mini Helmets Checklist

I'm sure sometime down the line, we will see the Tie Pilot mini halmet. Riddell already had prototypes made before the line was dropped. So I'm sure GG has them now.

Only re-release I'd get would be the shockie. Couldn't see paying $130+ for one of the MR ones so it's the only clone I'm missing. Thing is, GG had better IMPROVE their designs and make 'em look a little closer to the MR versions before I buy any of them.

I cant believe the finish on the .45 clone trooper!!? its rubbish! like someone said earlier it looks rough and wtf is the painted lense about??? I have all the riddell .45's and am just missing the shock and shadow clone trooper from MR. I will NOT be buying these lil lids if they dont improve by time of release. Very dissapointing.

Looks like GG just took the licenses and threw it away. They must had found out there is no market for these. At least in this day and age. I would had loved McQ concept mini helmets.

Yeah what happened?! They're still using the Vader mold and why not releasing other characters?

At this point it seems like it, but there is a Pre order for the Jango mini helmet. I think GG could had really made some cool stuff, but they are suffocating the poor line. Too bad EFX didn't want to bother with it.

Re: Bust Ups & Mini Helmets Checklist

I don't have any of them--the only bust-up I have is the Vader in flames one--I was just curious since I like to see what's coming out and I Haven't seen any news on these in forever.

Let's dust off this old thread! Bandai has released 3 waves of mini helmets - two featuring classic and prequel trilogy helmets, one featuring The Force Awakens. What does everyone think of these? Any buzz out there on what Bandai will release for future waves?

Too small to incorporate all needed details, less appealing to the educated eye, thus an inferior collectible in my view. Don't get me wrong, I like most of what Bandai makes, but the scale of the mini helmets you are referring to, being so small, pales in comparison to those .45 scale helmets Riddell first produced, same helmet line that later on Master Replicas beautifully continued, but was quickly abandoned by Gentle Giant after getting the reins of the line. Riddell's original scale is what most collectors dream of seeing again produced, and I'm sure that if fairly priced and marketed they would be big sellers. They were a perfect space saving collectible that offered superb details inside and out, to such degree, that even those folks collecting 1:1 scale helmets could appreciate.

Here is a visual comparison of their respective take on the Stormtrooper helmet, showing what each helmet has to offer ...

1/6 scale is too small for details and most of them are inaccurate. GG Stormie mini-bust, HT figure and Marmit are the best. I'm using an old Marmit Sandtrooper lid on a Tomy mini-helmet stand for display next to the GG Dewback.

What the others have said about the scale/inaccuracies is true, and for a collector looking for a top end scaled helmet line, Bandai's 1/6th range ain't gonna cut it, but for someone wanting a smaller, cheaper (per item) collection of less definitive but nonetheless attractive mini helmets, I think the 1/6th scale mini helmets are great. While I have no plans to go all in, I intend to continue to pick them up selectively as a side-line to my main collecting focus, and in so doing build a nice, manageable little collection that is neither a space hog nor hugely expensive to maintain. So far, the releases from Bandai (and also Hasbro) in this scale have served me well. :)
