Bib Fortuna - VC#224

He might’ve been chosen to increase the “RTT” options. I knew looking just yesterday at @Jayson’s list of so many upcoming figures across multiple eras that several would HAVE to be straight repacks. There are SO many TVC figures apparently planned, and as we know from long experience only a few will be truly new. I think Hasbro is looking for any prior release with a Tatooine connection to supplement their gimmick, and that’ll lead into TONS more repacks. I guess I don’t mind much though.

Here's a few that are also RtT related options that I feel are likely far more in demand than this particular figure.

Or these two unmade Droids that are simple repaints of BAD mold, which totally fit Store Exclusive parameters.

Whey the utter lack of Droid representation in TVC? I'd like someone to address this issue with Steve before figure prices actually do go up to $20 or simple stuff like this may not be as viable in the main line. Heck do a Pulse 4-pk with these two and two long over due updates!

Certainly a head scratcher - especially because it still can be found for half the price. Plus, the soft goods were expensive, why not do a repack in all plastic to save on the manufacturing cost?

I wouldn't mind seeing Bane Malar with the Brock Starsher helmet to create Sgt. Doallyn. That would require no sculpting, just a tooling adjustment for the helmet socket. They might even be able to balance that cost by not using soft goods on this repack. Just too many easy options out there to ignore and do a repack with no demand instead.

If some of those figures came out in the mainline or Fan Channel, it could work, but for these Target releases I think they were going for straight TVC repacks (with some minor adjustments) that had some ties to Tatooine. Kind of surprised they put the effort to change Bom’s card.

I would’ve swapped out the Weequay Master for Bib, though. Still feels weird he hasn’t gotten a repack.

Most importantly, how are the blue spots? It looks like it might be better, but i don’t want to make any judgement calls with the bubble still affecting the lighting.

I got a bit of a run around at my local Target this morning when trying to return the Bibs that were sent (not keeping them as they are essentially the exact same figure with some text changes on the back of the card and an orange barcode sticker. The lady at CS insisted they were from a 3rd party seller because of the barcode stickers on the rear. Never mind that they are clearly identified as "TARGET EXCLUSIVE" on the site. In the end, she did accept them, but it was a PITA to convince her they came from and were shipped by Target. It could be an isolated thing, but be aware.

Why did you buy them in the first place? What did you think was different about them?

Personally I would be looking for some without the blue splatter on the face. I'll wait till I see them in person in the store.

I had no idea what exactly was or wasn't different when the preorders went up as there was very limited (if any) details released from Hasbro at the time - especially for Bib. The revelation about this particular figure being an almost exact reissue of the old figure didn't come to light until 10/01 when Yak Face posted pics of ones found in a Target store posted here.

It's a three year old figure. What were you expecting?

What? Why does anybody "care" about anything that gets discussed here? It's a message board. Why are you being so defensive about it?

Fair enough.

I didn't know what to expect - perhaps better paint apps, perhaps enough of a card change to justify having both versions. You never know with some of these reissues what to expect. Given how little info came out of Hasbro at the time for these specific reissues, it was better to just order a couple to play it safe when I ordered the others. I needed a Bom as I sold my TVC 1.0 version and the Gammie card ditched the bilingual name pill this time around, so was worth getting another carded version for that.

I was in the same boat. Had this been an actual reissue placed on the newer, thicker card stock, I would have definitely picked one up. However, thanks to Jayson and a couple other people who posted in-hand pics, Bib is 100% old, unsold stock, that Hasbro somehow duped Target into taking. It's the same exact card back, on the thinner stock, with the same graphics on the back of the card, and the 2022 date stamp. The gamorrean and Bom are proper reissues, Bib is not.

As I mentioned above, the Bibs are simply unsold stock from the original run. Nothing has been tweaked or updated on this particular figure. That means the blue wash will vary from figure to figure, so if you're trying to track one down that has less blue on the face, you'll need to head into Target and find one. The good news is that Bib will be the easiest to find out of the three, and you should have no problem finding multiple samples to choose from. I was fortunate enough to find some decent ones back when the figure was initially in stores, so there are ones with a more subtle blue wash out there....

The cards are thicker and there are very minor differences.

Old cards are .5mm

The new one is .8mm

Also, the PN on bottom of card is different.

Original card had PN00067679

New one is hard to see based on the sticker placement on mine but appears to read PN00093763

Legalese is different as well

I have no idea why other aspects on the card such as the copyright dates are the same since the cards were "updated" in some places for whatever reasons.

Ok, interesting. Somebody in the TVC group had it in hand and said it felt the same thickness as the original, and the new one also has a crease above the peg hole which was a common occurrence with the thinner cards, right out of the case. That, combined with the old graphic being used on the back, made me assume it was old stock. Thanks for busting out the calipers! Might try and get one of the new cards now.

I have three of these TVC Bibs, two loose and one on card (for some reason, I don’t remember why). I actually kinda still like the 2006 Saga version. There are times when I like soft goods and times I don’t. I actually have Saga on my Barge and don’t want to replace him.

I can also confirm they used the thicker cardstock on the newer release. Contrast is different too. My sample has the "white ring" imperfection the thicker cards sometimes have so better to try finding it at the store if you can if you don't want to chance getting the imperfection. Had to decide if I wanted to keep my old one without the imperfection but the newer one won out because I hate the thinner cards.

thank you very much for this. I tried getting this dood from amazon the first time he came out and i remember returning 12 of them to amazon because the cards were all bent, warped, creased, etc and it seemed that was due to how thin the card back is. this one is thicker. That said, this will be the new peg warmer going forward, i see him at targets, unlike the piggies that disappeared as they hit the pegs.

In my quest to make some more really retro, VINTAGE-style The Vintage Collection figures, I'm surprised at how satisfying a simple robe-swap can be on this guy. (To me, at least.)

20251213_150204.jpg

Now I just have to find my OT storage bin, dig out my older Bib, and nick the 1983 staff off him to give to this one.

'S funny. In person, my figure has a horrendously blue-splotched face, but it barely shows up in photos.

I’ve never thought about doing that! I’m going to try it! 🤩

Yeah, it looked weird for about 15 seconds, and then it just settled in to being the most natural-looking thing in the world. Probably from having seen him in that colour scheme either in person or in pictures for over four decades.

Hells, I've just added some dark red velvet and some ivory velvet samples to my online shopping cart, so I can try my hand at making prototype robes for him.

Might try the same for a spare Tessek, come to think of it -- get that snazzy Cardback Cross-Sell Group Shot look for him, with the black cape and gold belt, then paint the standard Tessek's belt dull silver and give him the greige cape for the Vintage 1983 Action Figure look.

Why does my Bib Fortuna NOT have the blue face splotch? I’ve certainly heard about it, and it’s not as fleshy pink as it should have been, but I don’t have a blotch face Bib.

I dunno. Is it the newer reissue, or the older one? Sounds like you lucked out, anyway; it's very distracting.

No. Mine is first release or original run or whatever. He’s the first release with the tissue paper cardback. I’m glad that went away. (And it only cost $3 more per figure!)

I just did the same thing! I found six Bib cloaks and will see what I can arrange!
IMG_3739.jpeg

Some of them apparently are! Of the six I found in my tray, I chose the ones with the longest. Good catch! 🤓

On the app, the ones near me are on “clearance” at 15% off. Might grab an extra one. Thanks for the heads up strobeeone

Generally when an item hits clearance at Target it's no longer available to order on their site, for me anyway. And that's the only way I'm going to get it because I'm 80 miles away.

Frankly, Bib would have to be $4 to get me to buy anymore, because I could have got plenty of them for $8 just a year ago. Which is why this rerelease was so baffling to me. But it's not my money so who cares if they want to buy up unsold stock. I just hope it doesn't sully them on acquiring any other needed repacks as an exclusive.

Thinking of, Isard would seemingly make a great Target Exclusive on the new Imperial Officer sculpt being that it's red.
