Ben's Star Wars room

Just added the GG Biggs bust to the collection. I think my pilots section is now complete.

The sculpt appears to have a better likeness than poor Dooku 2 and Bespin Luke. I think that as long as they don't mess up the skin tone, you should end up with a decent looking Cassian/Diego. Best of luck!

Agree. The Dooku 2 bust never had a chance of turning out well as even the prototype looked bad. With Cassian, the proto looks quite nice so there's hope. :)

I like it! The Yavin patch is pretty cool, and looks great on your backpack. You've just given me an idea to get a backpack and add Star Wars patches to it for the next Celebration here in Florida. Gee! I can't believe it has been over five years since the last one here, and since you, my wife and I had dinner at Miller's Ale House in Orlando. (y)

Thanks!
Sounds like a plan...there are tons of cool SW patches on Etsy. I also found a couple of Buffy gifts for Joanna.
Looking forward to the next Orlando SW Celebration, whenever that might be. It'll be good to see you and catch up!

I've always enjoyed your taste for collectibles and the way you choose to display them. Jedi Luke looks perfectly placed next to those awesome MR lightsabers.

Ben, now that you have the RS and Efx Scout trooper helmets with you and are able to better review both of them, which one do you consider the better version as far as accuracy, details and paint application? I can tell your RS scout blaster is superior, not just because it isn't attached to anything but because of the overall manufacturing of the piece.

Hey, Julian, I'll give you a few thoughts but keep in mind I am FAR from an expert on the subject. I totally trust the RS guys...they really sweat the small stuff to give as accurate a prop as possible so the win on both the helmet and the blaster goes to RS. SW die hard fans in the UK are going to do a better job than some Chinese factory worker.

Now having said that, I think the EFX legend helmet came out quite nicely for a made in China, mass produced item. It is a lot more accurate than the fiberglass LE one they did a few years back which suffered from side misalignments and a huge top visor gap. Yes, the legend weathering looks a bit like someone just hit it with a black spray can but honestly, some of the screen used helmets have a bit of that black spray look as well. The RS weathering looks more like "real world" weathering. But as far as size and shape, the RS and the legend are pretty similar.

As for the blaster, well, no contest. RS all the way. Pretty unfortunate that efx had to affix the blaster to the base, making it more of a decoration than a prop replica. And as I mentioned in the props section of the forum, the efx is very rough looking compared to the RS. Why? I don't really know. Were RS and efx basing their products off of two different screen used blasters, one much rougher looking than the other? Don't know. But in the end, the efx has a lot more warts/ugliness than the RS.

I'm sure you've seen my side by side photos...I was expecting it to draw some discussion from some of the more knowledgeable props members here. That didn't really happen. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks, Ben. Looking at your very clear comparison pictures as I did, I feel the same way as you do. If at some point I can find room to get a Scout Trooper helmet, the RS one would be the one I'll go for. I really don't like the base on the efx one. I think these elaborate bases for helmets sort of take away from the focus of the piece which should be the helmet itself. I like themed bases somewhat for statues because I feel they place the character within the scene the sculpt is meant to be in, but as far as helmets, just a simple base with a signature or non-signature plaque looks better in my opinion. That is also why I do not like the Clothears base their Lando skiff helmet is on. I love their helmet, not so much the distracting base. I also like the more subtle weathering on the RS Scout Trooper helmet, feeling it is a bit more realistic. Definitely, in my opinion, fan made releases in many instances offer much more for your buck than mass produced "official" pieces and I see them. for the most part, as true labors of love. By the way, thanks for the pictures you took. They really helped me decide what could possibly be a future purchase.

Oh, yeah, I really don't care for the themed bunker base efx did for the scout legend. Especially if you're displaying it with other imperial helmets which, presumably, don't have themed bases.
Glad you found the RS vs. efx comp pics useful! I did get a bunch of "likes" on the photos so even if they didn't trigger a lot of discussion, hopefully others found them useful as well.

I'm liking your The Mandalorian shelf, Ben. The Armorer and Bo-Katan look really nice. I truly like the costume design of those two characters. And ... Wow! 94 bucks shipped for a new release was really a good deal. Congratulations! I'll have to keep an eye on Fanboy collectibles in the future. As always, your collection kicks butt!

Agree about the designs of the Armorer and Bo-Katan, especially the Armorer...I really liked that character almost instantly. Bo-Katan was a different story for me...in season 2 there was something that rubbed me the wrong way about her (can't put my finger on it). But I just recently finished watching S.3 and they really developed her character in a way that I enjoyed which is what prompted me to buy this bust.

Just got back from an 18 day trip to Hungary and Switzerland. Most of what we did was not SW related but there was a cool place in Budapest called the Flipper Museum...you pay an entry fee and then you can play any of their many vintage and modern pinball machines for as long as you want until closing. They had at least three SW machines including a modern Mando one but my favorite was this one...

BTW, I highly recommend a visit to Budapest...amazing architecture, easy to get around with public transport, English widely spoken, and surprisingly cheap for a big city.

Awesome! Man, you haven't changed since we met in '17. I had a feeling, knowing how much you like to travel, and how I hadn't seen you posting much lately, you might have gone somewhere, Ben. I hope you had a great time visiting Hungary and Switzerland, both beautiful countries. I wish I would have known you had gone to Hungary, so you would have met my cousin. He's lived there for almost 30 years and he's married to a Hungarian lady. They both live in Budapest and he has a dance academy there, goes on TV there sometimes. He's also into Star Wars like us. So, how was the trip and did you have any Goulash?

I had a great time in both countries, Julian. I'll PM you a link to my Google photos album. No Goulash but I did try veggie Paprikas...pretty good!

Very nice busts both of them.Congrats! What made you decide to go for the Ewok, Ben? I thought you had said before the little guys weren't really your cup of tea? Does this mean you found a new love for them? Are you planning on getting others?

Thanks Julian.
You've got a good memory. :) I think it was my age when ROTJ came out, 13. I was a bit cynical and felt the movie was too juvenile for me. I especially didn't like the way the Emperor's finest troops just rolled over and died when the Ewoks threw their sticks and stones at them. I guess I still feel this way to some degree but I've softened a bit in my old age. ;) When I saw the Ewok drummer statue that is now on preorder at GG I decided I was going to do a ROTJ heroes shelf (I just recently put in my preorder for that statue).
I once had the Endor Luke bust but that awkward lightsaber pose (or ST blaster) really bothered me and I sold it (with no regrets). And I'm certainly not preordering the Endor Han bust :poop:
So Wicket seemed perfect to go with Endor Leia.

I hear you, and can see why the movie felt that way to you back then. Hey, as we age we find ourselves accepting some things we did not like so much before. Heck, I find myself listening to my wife's Michael Jackson music, something I would have never done when I was 100% Heavy Metal. Anyway, it's nice you preordered the Ewok drummer. It is a cool statue. Are you also getting the other Ewok statue?

No Endor Han Mini Bust? Man, and there I was thinking about buying a few and sending them to friends for Christmas. I'll have to cross your name off my list then. No problem I'll keep mine for the day you come visit Miami, and we'll take him with us to the shooting range near my house. :)

Some of those 80s MJ tunes haven't aged badly at all. When they come up on Joanna's phone while we're driving I find my myself kind of liking them (but don't tell anyone!) ;)

I think Wicket and the Ewok drummer will be more than enough Ewoks for my collection.

It was a pretty long wait but I finally got the RS Wedge ROTJ SE helmet that I ordered in Jan. I really like the paint job. The only criticism I have is it seems to be on the small side as I can't get it on my head without taking out the ear cups.
