Just saw this on Sideshow Freaks forum:

Hi, Everyone!

I just wanted to take a second and introduce myself to those of you I don't already know - I'm Russell Walks, and I'm an artist and writer working primarily in licensed properties.

I'm a huge science-fiction/pop culture fan, and I've been lucky enough to do a ton of sci-fi related work over the years, lots of it Indy and SW related.

Last summer, for instance, I did all of the food-related Indy work - everything from Cheez-its to Frosted Flakes to Dr. Pepper. (Odds are, if you walked through a grocery store last summer, you saw my stuff.)

Most recently, I did the Key Art, wrote and illustrated a six card subset, and the drew the chrome parallels for Topps' SW: Galaxy 4 series (coming to a store near you in February!), as well as the variant cover for Wildstorm's X-Files comic. (If you're interested in looking at the Topps work, you can check out an article about the subset here: http://www.starwars.com/vault/collec.../20081215.html

I'm currently working on a series of licensed "Retro" Star Wars posters, and since the first one has recently become available, I thought I'd post it for your review:

It's $30.00 shipped, and is currently available only through me, although I imagine that there will be something in place shortly with starwars.com. If you're interested, just drop me an email or pm, and I'll let you know the paypal address to which you can send your payment. (email: walks@russellwalks.com)

Just for fun, here is the entire triptych of pieces (The idea being that Star Wars is timeless, it's cool to imagine what the movie posters might have looked like had it come out in the 40's, 50's or 60's:

Thanks for looking, folks!

Oh one more thing: I'm currently working on a book about the effect Pop-Culture has had on my life, and I've posted an excerpt about my relationship with Star Trek. It's here: http://www.livinginanalog.com/ and I'd love it if you'd read it and let me know your thoughts!

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

Russell that is one sweet print, actually I like it the most from the three you show. It feels like an old horror/suspense movie from the 60's...The two young teenagers be chased by the 'unknown dark shadow' very cool...The middle Vader one is very 60's, love the Saul Bass inspiration...Is that one going to be for sale???

Oh, is the images of Luke/Leia drawn, or is it a photoshop type print?

Anyways, PM sent...and love the work...

Good Lord those are awesome! Just when I was going to step back and take a breather from prints, these are kickin' it old school style and MUST be in my collection.

The Vader is perfection.

yeah, i suppose small could work for me as well

i usually prefer the standard full size for my posters but i could make an exception

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

Ok, just exchanged emails with Mr. Walks.

24" x 36" is the size and only the 60's style can be purchased at the moment.

I'm shooting my $$$ over to him now!

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

Hi, everyone -

This is Russell Walks, and I'd like to thank SolidLiquidFox for posting here for me. Poster size is around 24 x 36, and it's important to note that while these are high-quality pieces printed on non-yellowing, good-quality paper, they're not the museum quality prints that ACME issues; They're specifically designed and printed to be like vintage Movie Posters.

Thanks for looking, and if you get a chance, please read the Star Trek essay linked to at the bottom of the first post in this thread. It's an excerpt from a book I'm working on, and I'd love to hear your thoughts - Is it boring? Is it funny? Would you buy a book of stuff like this?

Thanks Again,

Russell

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

It's always nice getting in on the ground level of some of the art that comes across RS, instead of finding out a little late. (Like taking over a YEAR to get a hold of some CIV/CE Dorman prints!!!)

AWESOME stuff!

The email I got was the semi-automated one that came through PayPal. I PM'd him on the SSC forum and got nothing. Then the notification popped up!

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that all orders have shipped USPS First Class.
Several of you mentioned that you hadn't gotten responses to emails you sent me, and this concerns me a little, since I've attempted to respond promptly to every email received.
If I've ignored you I'm sorry, and I'll check my junk boxes, spam folders, etc...

Warm Regards,

Russell

Re: Russell Walks Retro Posters

I'm kind of reluctant to order. I really only want the 50's version, but I do like the 60's a bit. I just wish that you would give the word that the 50's in a go.
