Did we need a 3rd rendition of this bust? It looks great, but this is a missed opportunity. An opportunity to release a new character not in bust form yet.

This was in emails and I pulled this picture from GG collecting groups.

It’s nice but yeah an unmade character would’ve been way better.

Hoth Rebel Soldier
Nute Gunray
Lama Su
Admiral Piett
Young Boba
Updated Zam Wessell
Freakin Boss Nass even!
Literally anything….

You forgot Malakili. But I forgive you.

Naturally that one goes without saying! I hope he shows up in Book of Boba Fett actually, with a new little rancor to raise for Fetts enemies.

I get it, Gentle Giant wants popular characters out there...

But the show is filming now, so why not wait a year for Obi-Wan and give us a version from that?! Or do a Phantom Menace version...

But a third iteration of ANH Ben at this moment in time, head scratcher.

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 A THIRD version of ANH Kenobi. Wrong movie guys! How about Phantom Menace or waiting until the new series and giving us a bust from that series.

Hell at this rate I'm surprised they just don't go the old school Kenner route and start releasing old busts with different packaging. ANH Obi-Wan bust with 12 back, 20 back, 31 back packaging. GG if you read this....I'm joking...unless it gets me a Veers in Armor.

I knew Rook would win. I'm happy that he's getting done. I would've rather have seen Nute or ANY of the other vote selections get picked as the second bust option instead of a third Old Ben.

As much as I'm complaining I'll probably pick him up for my Obi-Wan shelf but there are so many other characters that can and SHOULD get done.

Here's my 2 cents and then I'll get off my soapbox. The PGM should be about getting those obscure characters and exclusive versions (alternate head, hand/weapon) of a regularly released statue or bust, not "core" characters. The core/currently hot characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Vader, Kenobi, Boba, currently Mando, etc.) should all be regular releases that will end up in comic/collectible shops that are going to help get a new person interested in the hobby/line and continue to grow the interest/customer base.

@disgruntledjawa you're living up to your SN :D

But yea, I am right there with you on this one. This is the wrong bust to be releasing. I honestly don't know why GG makes the decisions they do. They seriously have no pulse on the collectors/fans of their product. Either that, or because DST acquired them, they don't look back on what has already been done and learn from what has already been done. The company could greatly benefit from having an actual fan and collector to bounce ideas off. Wish it was me, but for obvious reason, they would never let me close to a decision in that company. But anyone who is a collector, ANYONE.

It looks pretty good, but I’m perfectly content with my 2017 version, which looks excellent, imho.

& to reiterate what others have already said, I’m not a fan of them making multiple versions of the same character when A) there’s [imho] awesome characters like my guy Ki-Adi-Mundi that have NEVER been made & B) characters like Qui Gon that have only been made once, & could use a newer, updated version [with arms & a saber]

As I said it in another thread,, I'm personally not liking that selection. We already have three Ben mini busts. Making another one with so many other characters to be made from collectors lists makes no sense. Why so much repetition, GG? I know the old mantra "main characters sell", but being as it is right now that OT characters see the least amount of manufacturing, going over the same OT characters is a bit frustrating, despite how nice the sculpt might turn out to be. Offer variety, offer what collectors want. And yes, this is coming from me, an OT collector who happens to like old Ben the most. You are making the line boring and unattractive every time you do this. JMHO.

The mostly unappreciated reaction for this release is understandable. Sometimes advice is given by the bucket, but taken by the grain, so one's got to lay back and watch the show. Only so much we can do. That's all I'll say about that.

This is so lame, just like the Tarkin bust no one asked for and we already have a great one. Here's a crazy cooky idea... how about Sequel Luke, Leia and Han?! No no I know I'm being crazy asking for the 3 characters we've been waiting 40 years to see on screen.

Meh, after count Dooku my people-bust-a-phobia has properly kicked back in, you just know the eyes are going to be doggy as hell if it has the same look as the concept. Not for me at this stage.

Whilst I would have preferred a different option I kind of understand why they might have gone with Ben. Most of us are going to be joining up to get the obscure choice we voted for but your casual fan won't. They need something main stream to attract the casual collector, just my opinion. Or DST just hate us all and couldn't care less what we want?

I hear you. I'm not an ST collector, do not have an interest for that particular Trilogy, just a matter of preference, but I do understand not all of us are the same and folks do have the right to make choices and like what they like. We are a human rainbow after all, which makes our existence a bit more interesting. Having said that, it makes total sense to offer aged Leia and Han from the ST. They were main characters after all, and I've been a bit baffled as to why GG have left some members of our ST collector community without these key characters. It goes both ways: as an OT collector I'm always going to respectfully push for characters from it to be made, going by my own preferences and those found on collectors lists. The ST collector deserves as well to have the characters they have been asking for to be made. I think GG could be getting a much better reception if they were to get a little closer to what many of us want. Just my opinion, of course.

We know the numbers for the ST merchandise is not up there with OT and PT.

But I find it crazy how Poe Dameron doesn't have a GG mini-bust (or statue) or, bringing other companies into the conversation, a 1:6 Hot Toys figure. He was marketed as part of the big 3 with Finn and Rey, yet there is barely anything out there for him.

I am not counting the ugly Classic Bust they released years ago lol.

He's a big hole in Sequel Trilogy shelf. For how much I disliked Rise of Skywalker, Finn and Poe had their best outfits in that movie, both were unique and stood out, yet there is nothing out there for them.

I agree with the most of the opinions. This another Ben was completly unnecessary. We have a lot of characters pending to be done instead of repetaed characters. For sure Nute Gunray was a better option instead of him as second choice, Nute is one of the most important characters from de Prequels like Poe Dameron it's from the Sequels and both are still not represented as a minibust.
Both characters deserves to be done and I hope to see more new characters done in the future instead of repeated characters.
I decided along time ago to don't add repeated characters to my collection, my free space it's booked only for new characters.

The edition size on this one is 2,000 so there will be plenty for some time to come. This is from the same seller on Ebay we saw selling other mini busts earlier that haven't shipped yet. Same seller using one of my Jabba's Palace Exclusive Bookends pictures for one of his sales (which I did not authorize) thus I'm not responsible for what he's selling.

Anyway, I'm interested to see a good close up on the face sculpt of this Mini Bust. The seller is only showing these in-hand pictures of the box for his auction but, if the likeness of the actual product looks just as bad as the pictures on the box, then in my view the 2007 and the 2017 releases are the better ones. JMHO

That face is… rough. The aging / wrinkles are too few and way too large and deep.

He looks a little like Palpatine did after he finished crisping up Mace Windu in Revenge of the Sith.

I have a feeling this is going to be one awful looking bust with a really bad likeness. Noticed they never took pictures to show it and all we've seen is as drawing and some distant pictures from the convention.

This actually looks like another case of regression in terms of sculpts. The very first Obi Wan bust is superior to this one (from what I can tell of the new bust pic on the box there) They did this with Dooku too. I thought making progressively BETTER busts would be a logical approach. Making them worse? Is this some form of sales teqnique I'm not aware of?

Gentle Giant must have a few sculptors and one of them just isn’t as good as the others. They should probably have a minimum standard that is pretty high.

Someone here in the forums who out of embarrassment because of the purchase it made prefers to remain unnamed, just sent me some pictures of the Obi-Wan mini bust it got. I will do my regular picture review at a later time with other pictures this person sent. As a collector who's not blinded by the buy-everything bug, I would advice not to buy this disaster of a bust. Of course, it is just my opinion, and I'm not trying to influence anyone on what to do, I'm only pointing out what my eyes can see. After collecting these for almost 20 years and GG being around for 21, one comes to expect improvement and quality from this company, not this. Again just my humble opinion ...

- Separated seams at the shoulders with traces of glue and strange looking fabric detail.

oops003.jpg

- Sloppy paint job on the saber with paint blob around the control box, hair from a brush on left finger and black paint over right hand

oops 000.jpg

- Bottom decal over the base and drops of light paint on it

oops002.jpg

- Separation of hand with noticeable glue residue from the body

oops001.jpg

- Bubble head with plastered on eyebrows with no detail

oops004.jpg

... And this is a PGM exclusive with 2.000 of them made? Just saying.

That's terrible. Glad they did a good job on Weequay. Still waiting on production photos of both Barada and Dark Anakin before I choose my free gift for last year.
