My last TIE fighter build was set 7154, the original version. This is leaps and bounds better.

The build was easy and taking my time, it took less than two hours. Building both sets of wings at the same time was not a mirror nightmare like when I tried to duplicate the processes on the TIE Silencer and the recent X-Wings. I really like how the designers wrapped the wings with flat strips. The wings are sturdy and snap onto 4 posts per side. They pop off easy enough to store or to simulate being destroyed. The ship has two launchers that are not in the way while holding it to where they accidently launch across the room to be lost forever. The cockpit is easy to load a pilot into and I used one of the small clips above the pilot to store his blaster pistol.

I look forward to seeing how the figures play into its use.

Just got done building it and it was a fun build. Now my son just wants to destroy it with his X-Wing.:hmm:

This was a fun build! Best design that Lego has made for the TIE Fighter to date.

But I HAVE to say that the guys over at BrickVault are offering a very impressive set of instructions for MiniFig scale TIE Fighters that have the best design I've ever seen.

Well I guess I can’t edit my above post.

EDIT: have moved review up to reserved space - Jeremy

Sounds like people really like this set.

I had the Imperial TIE Fighter that came out in 2013 (IIRC) but sold it a few months ago when I first saw images of this one. Having seen in hand images over the past week it is a great looking set. I'll get it during the next Double VIP event. Probably May the 4th.

I plan on getting this version since the first Lego Tie I have is the original one which was blue / grey and black. I was hoping Lego was going to make more Rebels ships. I loved the size of the tie advance and Awing ships. I was looking to try and get a duplicate Tie Advanced off Ebay to build my own version of the standard Tie.

I like this Tie, very nice looking. Is there an X-Wing on this scale?

I wish LEGO did the new tie version that is in SOLO, that is like a cross between a normal tie and a bomber, but the other pod is a cannon instead.

That'd be the TIE r/b. I think it's also called the TIE Heavy.

Agreed, we've had plenty of TIE Fighters. Who not something new?

Can't say I've ever had instructions sealed in a bag before. When did that start?

I had the same for a set I opened last night. Oddly it was for the Arrowhead that I thought was from over a year ago.

Got this set a few weeks back. With the extra contents of the DVDs that are being teased this set is starting to make sense.

Fun build.

One of the sets I sold was 9492 TIE Fighter to make way for this new one. I have not built it yet, but judging by the pictures on the box it years ahead of 9492 (which even at the time looked outdated IMO).
I'm curious about specifics on why you say that? My take is slightly different. I do prefer the cockpit wind shield piece on the new TIE but I feel that the large crossbeams on the wings are superior on 9492. I'm not a fan of the flat studded plates utilized in the new design. The older wings have a more detailed/ streamlined look.
