So we're coming up to the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope, what do you think Hasbro will do to mark this occasion? Bring back Vintage carded figures? An exclusive item? Nothing at all? What would you like to see?

Okay, I have a little 'inside information'....... There will be a number of Black Series figures 6" released for the 40th Anniversary, sadly I don't know anything more.... The Hasbro rep I ran into at my job was tight-lipped about it. But I'll try and carry out more scouting missions in the upcoming months. I am sooooooo hoping we get some clones, maybe Bacara, Neyo or some Republic Commandos, though the last is highly unlikely. But I'd be happy with one new clone, as long as its not from Rebels..... Then, I'll have a problem.

If they are being released for the 40th anniversary of ANH, wouldn't it make sense that these figures would be (call me crazy) from ANH?

I was thinking the same thing. . . Also that it's probably not a big secret they're going to release stuff for the 40th anniversary. . .

I figured that, but I thought I'd be a good person and let all of you guys know. I only posted it since slots for the figures recently appeared in a system at my job. No pics, just the phrase 'Blk Series 6" 40th Ann' was all that appeared.

@Billy_Ray: The only reason I'm itching to see what they bring out for the BS 6" is because for the 30th they did characters from all of the films and the EU (though we most likely won't be seeing anyone from there, darn you Disney). I am trying not to get my hopes up, but knowing my luck, IF they bring out any clones, I won't be able to get them easily. Hasbro's distribution is getting worse and worse. I only just saw the Force Awakens C-3PO the other day, and still haven't seen a lot of others that were released last year.

I have a feeling that we will see repacks of some of the already released ANH figures as part of the 40th.

Kinda interesting there's no timetable in that story.
Plus in the comments, Paul said it seems Hasbro will be returning to a 4/case assortment from now on.
Where was this said?

Also in case your browser doesn't translate...

I just stumbled across this from a BS Facebook group I'm a member of.
Thoughts?

http://www.mintinbox.net/2017/01/13...-black-serie-40th-anniversary-early-bird-set/

It was mentioned a few months back that Hasbro was producing a 6" diecast wave that contained "Leia, Luke, Obi-wan, Darth Vader, and Han Solo"... There was a post on this forum that linked to it: http://forum.rebelscum.com/showthread.php?t=1129308

Count me in on being happy with the case selection of wave 11. A very solid wave... which makes the Rogue One era of Black Series perhaps the best yet.

Now, a final recap wave would be good where they can add Darth Vader.. Darth Vader, Chirrut, Baze, Emperor Royal Guard, Princess Leia, & Snowtrooper. Too logical?

so no talk about the 40th anniversary items found via Brick Seek - Walmart? 1st 12 done as 6" and (boo) more die-cast figures...

I don't think there's much information on the 40th anniversary set but they've already done all but 3 figures from the the original 12 with Sand People, Jawa and Death Squad Commander being the only ones missing even though we're getting a Tusken Raider in wave 11. I wonder if these are all new figures or repacks.

This confirms the rumors listed about the die-cast and 6" line-ups, with the exception of 6" Vader. Perhaps the already known EP4 Vader will be placed in this assortment, instead of the current 6" assortment. This might explain his absence from the line-up here; it's possible Hasbro is using his existing UPC, so Walmart didn't need to make a new one. Walmart's listing for that Vader is:

Yikes, that'll easily cost $200+ I wish they'd give us a visual.

I was just thinking that. I was like, that would be pretty cool to get since it'll be in nice packaging (presumably), but then I started totaling it up and I was like, wellllll, I don't buy repacks anymore so perhaps I'll just get the ones that are new.

I'll be relieved if it's repacks but hopefully in packages that are separable. I'm hoping it's not another SDCC Boba Fett where everyone wants the Han in carbonite but you can't get it without buying the whole set :\

Thrilled Stormtroopers will be in circulation again.

Really torn if I want them to be straight repacks or small differences in deco/accessories.

Also unsure if I'm going to buy them if they are repacks. Would look sweet, but that's a fair bit of money.

Dorkside posted this over at TheFwoosh fourms in regards to 6":

I don't know anything about vehicles, it could totally happen just not heard of it. Did hear something about a display but of course I'm sworn to secrecy:)

How cool would it be is they gave us this in 6" scale:

gus-stand.jpg

But then there is that rumor about an "Early Bird Set", maybe just the display from that in 6" scale instead. Either way, would be cool.

I saw some of the figures (in person) today on backer cards. Leia, Luke, Han and R2D2. All 6" figures on classic backers cards with a silver SW 40TH Anniversary logo sticker on the top right corner. I also saw a box about 18" x 10" with a 6" Vader in a clear window and it looks like a 6" scale modern day version of the 1978 early bird special box. Sorry I can't show photos. By the way, the Leia face sculpt is the best I've ever seen. Seriously.

So they have resculpted Princess Leia ANH already? Or is it just a better paint job of the existing mould? Gotta say, I would be thrilled with another sculpt of Han ANH, as the original does not hold up.

Thanks for the report! Curious about the Vader box. If it's just going to be Vader and cardboard at a premium price then it's a poor decision by Hasbro.

I'm sure many kids will be excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars. Those kids are going to have a blast reminiscing about their early bird sets from when they were kids!

I'm not sure what point you're making or who you're trying to be a **** to with this statement. Could you please clarify? In my mind a kid could still enjoy those toys while the nod to the Early Bird kit just whizzes over his or her head...

I just took another look at my photos. The Vader box is rectangular with a die-cut window on the far left showing the 6" scale Vader, helmet is still too big so it's likely the same Black Series Vader we all have. The rest of the box is designed just like The Early Bird box. Even the painted artwork of all the SW characters at the bottom of the box. Very retro.
On the back of the box it shows that it comes with a black plastic base with I'm assuming pegs to stand all the original trilogy characters on (collect 'em all kids!) and a cardboard backdrop that fits into the base. The cardboard backdrop shows of a section of the Death Star on the left with a Tie-Fighter shooting at an X-Wing.
The back of the box illustration shows the following 12 figures on display on the base: Sandperson, C3PO, Death Star Commander, Chewbacca, Han, Leia, Luke, R2D2, Vader, Stormtrooper, Jawa, Obi Wan. Also on the back of the box is shows the original Early Bird illustration of the same 12 figures that were in that set so many decades ago.
Of course, this set only comes with Vader and the stand and backdrop, but for nostalgia alone, I want it when it comes out!

I'd have to say it's a new head sculpt. Face is much thinner. I had this in my hand (still in the plastic and backer card though) and took pretty close up photos and compared it to the current 6" Leia I own. I'd say 99% new head sculpt.

That sounds great! Thanks for the report, looking forward to seeing all of this.

Just have found this : http://www.intrafin.eu/fr/action-fi...-series-40th-anniversary-early-bird-set-13583

I don't know if that's the early bird kit coming with 6" Vader... but if it is, 99€ for a single 6" figure in an empty cardboard and plastic box?

Also apprently this is the website of a distributor who sells to professional retailers, so I'm afraid prices are given without taxes/TVA/VAT (depending on how you call it in your country) that will have to be added to the price given here. I really hope this is not the price of the 6" early bird kit :wtf: and that 99€+ is the price of the 12 set of 3.75" die-cast figures or something.

Okay that sounds pretty cool. Hopefully he's not THAT much more expensive than the other 40th anniversary 6 inch figs

This is a strange response. I was making the point that while a kid could still enjoy these, the set is obviously a reference to the early bird kit from the 78, which is something an adult will most likely have true appreciation for, sort of what you just said in your post, I just said it with a bit of sarcasm.

Now a better question is why are you taking it so personally?

Thanks for the report! Tell us more about the packaging of the single figures

They are the classic 1970s backer card design with the photo of the character on the right hand side except since the figures are 6" tall, the cards are proportionally larger to fit with the scale. The only thing that is different with the card is the black and silver 40 STAR WARS logo in the top left corner of each card. It's not too big to be overpowering The back of the cards show all 12 figures, each in in front of a different colored background. Under all those photos is a small image of all 12 figures on the new display stand. On the packaging they are calling this series the 40TH ANNIVERSARY LEGACY PACK.

Thanks a lot for the infos!

If they resculpted Leia, I'm praying they made a new Artoo as well. One with more accurate detailing and better proportions is highly needed. Can't wait to see these, but really hoping for a return of TVC in the standard scale.

It's nice to see 6" figures on vintage cards, the idea sounds pleasant, but on the other hand... it's really not exciting at all. I'm kind of disapointed by what Hasbro is doing for the 40th anniversary. It only feels "ok", but not much more than just acceptable.

1 : apparently Vader won't be available single carded and you'll have to buy the Early Bird Kit to get him? What if you want all of the first 12 6" figures on vintage cards to display unopened? Because the only interest of these repacked figures are the vintage cards, and we can only have 11 out of the 12 of them...

2 : so, Hasbro has been teasing us for a long time with the return of vintage cards... and that's it? That's all? 11 figures and only 2 actually being completely new figures (yeah Vader might be the new sculpt version too)

3 : and no but really? That's all? No ships? No X-Wing or Tie Fighter? No 3.75"? (I won't even talk about the die-cast figures here, for me this line will never exist).

Last thing, and it's only a personal opinion, but I have a bad feeling about such huge vintage cards. I guess i'll have to wait to see how the whole thing looks in person, but I'm not sure I'll like the look of almost A4 sized cardbacks. I've already seen people selling on Ebay custom vintage cards and bubbles to fit 6" figures, and it looks lame. For me it doesn't work. Boxes similar to the 12" Kenner dolls, I would have bought all of them, or at least smaller cardbacks, something like the Gentle Giant vintage figures (the card has roughly the same height as the figure). And anyways, I'm not that excited or interested by the Early Bird box (it will also depend of the price) so if I can't buy Vader single carded to go with the 11 others figures, I'll probably just skip the whole thing and just get one Death Squad commander and one Jawa and make my own first 12 set with the older figures. I would maybe consider getting one Stormtrooper, if the figure has a new sculpt.

Is anybody else kind of annoyed that we'll have to buy new versions of figures we just purchased? I just got Leia from HTS a month ago and now I'll have to track down the new sculpt and try to sell my current one. It seems like kind of a slap in the face to us collectors. I know it's great for those of us that never got certain figures but I can't be alone in feeling a bit frustrated can I?
