So we're coming up to the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope, what do you think Hasbro will do to mark this occasion? Bring back Vintage carded figures? An exclusive item? Nothing at all? What would you like to see?

I'd like to see new definitive sculpts for Farmboy Luke, Leia and Han.

I expect to see nothing.

Nothing against Vintage packaging lovers, but I'd like to see something different for the 40th. Akin to what they did for TAC, stylishly different.
If the do go with Vintage cards, I'd like to see Gold foil used instead of Silver. But it should be "special" for the Anniversary, not just a typical average look.

I really hope it's vintage carded. Even if it's just 5poa figures, I'll buy'em all if they are on a vintage kenner style cardback. I just hope it's focused on a 3.75 line (5POA or SA I don't care) and not 6 inch, we really don't need more black series Han's and Greedo's peg warming again. Now if they box the black series 6 inch figures in a vintage style box like the old 12 inch Kenner boxes, I'll be down for all of them. Even another Han and Greedo. Or if Hasbro would do something awesome like make new versions of the old cardboard kenner playsets or a early bird display, to go with the 40th line. I'd be down for that too.

I'm hoping at least to see a limited run of SA figures on vintage-style cards like they did with the VOTC. Some re-releases and some all-new figs:

-Grand Moff Tarkin (TVC figure with soft goods replaced with plastic)
-Obi-Wan Kenobi (Resurgence of The Force straight re-pack)
-C-3PO (build-a-droid protocol droid sculpt)
-Luke Skywalker (Resurgence of The Force figure with interchangeable Tatooine and Stormtrooper utility belts)
-Princess Leia (VOTC figure with new arms w/ ball-jointed elbows)
-Stormtrooper (TBS 3.75" figure with torso from the TVC)
-Theron Nett
-Death Squad Commander (grey uniform)
-Cantina Band Member (with 6 different instruments)
-Garouf LaFoe
-Lak Sivrak
-Power Droid (blue repaint of the TVC 3-pack sculpt)

Dear Chewbacca,
In response to your email regarding decreasing articulation, increasing retail price, inconsistent paint apps and inventory scarcity, we at Hasbro would like to reveal to you our new subline for 2017 and the four-decade anniversary of the original Kenner line.
We'll be launching our For Underserviced Consumers Keepsakes Original Force Fans Collection. Look for it exclusively at your local Walmart.
Sincerely, Hasbro

Awesome lol

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

-Luke Skywalker (Resurgence of The Force figure with interchangeable Tatooine and Stormtrooper utility belts)
-Princess Leia (VOTC figure with new arms w/ ball-jointed elbows)
Nah, these need remaking from the ground up. Luke has a silly headsculpt with a Simpsons-esque overbite and has tiny twig legs. Leia has a giraffe neck and a pea head.

Where is the like button when you need it.

Not seeing anything i'd be interested in show up for that milestone. If anything, it's gonna be either 6" or 5POA 4". Not holding my breath in hope Hasbro will surprise me and brought never before released SA figures from ANH or even retools of the main players.

That would be even better, of course. I think straight re-packs or slight tweaks is pushing our luck as is though. Totally new sculpts are probably completely out of the question.

Are you serious? OR did Hasbro really respond to you with this email?

It would be nice if they finally just release the new Yak Face!

But I seriously doubt that Hasbro has anything significant planned. Possibly a giftset with Luke, Vader and a few others repacks.

Yes, a completely new Farmbiy Luke from the ground up would be my wish. I think the upper body is fine, but the legs are too spindly and need to be a bit longer. An ANH Leia would be nice as well. I should add in case Hasbro actually reads this that I'm talking about 3.75" SA/TBS figures.

I, as well, am expecting nothing, though, especially in this line. I'm not even sure if the Hasbro SW team even realized that 2017 is the 40th anniversary.

I believe I've said elsewhere I'm expecting probably a 5POA box set of some sort. They have the tooling for Stormtrooper Luke, C-3PO, R2-D2, Leia, Han, Chewie, Vader, Stormtrooper all ANH, all without anything new.

I would obviously, obviously much prefer some new SA figures, but I'm not going to bother getting my hopes up. If Hasbro must stick to 5POA though, it'd be nice to see a farmboy Luke, an old Ben, or some ANH/R1 crossover figures like Dodonna, Tarkin, Antilles...

Agree a new sculpt farm boy luke, new sculpt stormy with the 5 poa head, new updated leia, , a couple of new cantina dudes (or updates ofbthr potf that havent been done) , imperial officers ( new sculpt) with tarkin as one, rebel fleet troopers with holster and new head sculpts, captain antilles ( maybe just update the arm/ leg articulation), gonk doids! Obviously the main cast, han, 3po,r2, obi wan, vader.
I think we will get a few only as episode viii is the focus.

Lots of people mentioning a new Han Solo. I don't have either figure (though one or both is on my buy list) but I thought the VOTC and TVC figures were supposed to be nearly perfect?

Head sculpt could use an update and he's a bit spindly (I know Harrison Ford was really trim in ANH but he wasn't thatsmall). Also, the new Rogue One figures have shown that torso and thigh articulation can be done well without compromising the figure's aesthetic.

I would VERY much like to see a 40th anniversary line. It goes without saying that figures like these should be super articulated, and on the classic Kenner style cardback. And I'd also like it to celebrate the entire Saga. Given that it's in celebration of A NEW HOPE, it should be ANH heavy in presentation. Here's my wishlist:

You forgot Jawa.

Lots of people mentioning a new Han Solo. I don't have either figure (though one or both is on my buy list) but I thought the VOTC and TVC figures were supposed to be nearly perfect?

Both figures are still awesome. VOTC represents the vintage small head and TVC the large head. It would be a wasted slot.

You forgot Jawa.

What's wrong with the Black Series Jawas? Again, don't have them, but they look good from pics. JTA wasn't a huge fan of them in their review, but I've been following their advice less and less as I've gotten back into things.

I think the BS Jawas were excellent and am fine with them. However, I know many want to see a vintage style Jawa with the soft goods robes. I'd buy a new version if one was made.

As for what I would like to see? The return of the Vintage Collection of course! As a yearly special wave or 2 of maybe 16 figures. And a great way to kick it off would be a stellar ANH-focused wave of 12 figures since it is ANH's 40th. An updated Tusken Raider with new BJ elbows and a new and bigger head. The Death Squad Commander with gray tunic as a nod to the old line. The blue Lars' Homestead GNK Droid. A new SA Hammerhead and maybe a new Lak Sivrak or Arliel Schous or Cantina Band Member or Solomahal. And then Han, Luke and Leia of course. Though I am happy with the VOTC Han, my VOTC Leia head on the LC Medical Leia and the Resurgence BP Farmboy Luke. I also would love to see a new Stomtrooper with using the current SA body and with the 5poa Rogue One head. An I would love to see a wave featuring 4 figures from every other movie. But I know this is never going to happen with Hasbro doing this line.

I am expecting major disappointment as always and would not put it past Hasbro releasing 5poa stuff on vintage cards. Which would be lame and of no interest to me whatsoever.

Let's hope there's some SA goodness in this scale coming for the 40th!

I'm sure Hasbro will eventually come up with something for the 40th. Anyhow, I think the days of vintage vehicles and attention to sub-characters are over. The current track record of Hasbro doesn't indicate anything else.

My guess is that kids just don't buy action figures like they used to.

I would guess that it's the collector hobby that is keeping Hasbro's Star Wars line afloat. And we're somewhat of a dying breed. In that case, Hasbro should be catering more towards the collectors, because if they lose us too, then it's game over!

I think the ultimate problem is that while many casual collectors may pick up a cool Stormtrooper or Darth Vader, characters who virtually transcend the Star Wars franchise itself, and many kids will pick up the latest characters, the crowd for obscure alien characters, 'complete sets', and classic characters, is that which has dwindled most. I fully sympathize, as I think most collectors have been forced to cut corners for one reason or another, but there are people who will pick up a Darth Vader who wouldn't give a second look to Sidan Ithano or Wedge Antilles, for example.

I think a common misconception in collecting circles is that the line is only between serious collectors and children, but there is a 'casual' collecting crowd as well that can sometimes embody the worse of both worlds. If you're a scummer or active on another collecting site, I don't mean you.

But I think Hasbro aims for these 'casual collectors', which is part of why we're still seeing lots of Stormtroopers of all kinds, and reissued Boba Fetts and Darth Vaders, but why there we're seeing a steep decline in not only obscure aliens, but Rebel troopers, Imperial officers and minor human characters as well, etc. I can't completely blame Hasbro, as understandably, hardcore collectors do not make up enough sales, but the virtual abandonment of serious collectors is overkill. We deserve more than a couple repacks a year.

Revising this just a little bit...

I thought it had been more or less leaked elsewhere that they are doing BS 6" sets of the original 12 figures. Or at least Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, R2-D2 & C-3po.

What's wrong with the Black Series Jawas? Again, don't have them, but they look good from pics. JTA wasn't a huge fan of them in their review, but I've been following their advice less and less as I've gotten back into things.

The BS Jawas are fantastic...they just don't come on a vintage card and it's a glaring hole in TVC collections.

I agree that the jawas from tbs are fantastic, one of the best releases in that line. certainly the best from the last couple of waves that came out before TFA. that was when we started getting repacks which are welcome as long as they are repacks of figures that were hard to find previously. I really hope we get something good for the 40th anniversary of star wars. didn't Hasbro state that something special was planned and that it would involve the black series? or at least involve figures with more than 5poa? I think they mentioned that in the same question and answer session where they mentioned that a black series comic pack could work.

I think the BS Jawas were excellent and am fine with them. However, I know many want to see a vintage style Jawa with the soft goods robes.
Why would anyone want that to happen? Just about everyone here seems to hate SG's. lol

Personally, I'd like them to make the "taller" Jawa, and get it out of the way. Plus it would be something new, yet the same.

I definitely want Yak Face, albeit he's not from ANH. But still... Lak Sivrak I could go for, and a new Bith sculpt. But Hammerhead isn't on my list quite yet. Definitive Farmboy Luke is a MUST, as well as ANH Leia. I kind of want a new Boshek too though, and he's 50% done with VOTC Bossk. Just need new arms legs and head/helmet.

Lak Sivrak would be nice. I don't have a problem with the articulated modernized Jawas they released. I do need a Bantha.

If I had to pick one figure I'd like to see for ANH's anniversary, it'd be a definitive, deluxe Farmboy Luke. Hasbro definitely overdid the design in the POTF2 days, but I don't believe a single-carded Farmboy Luke has been available since the TAC days. 'Deluxe' - including the poncho, floppy hat, long gun, grappling hook, pistol, rifle, lightsaber, maybe the chest from Obi-Wan's hut from TSC and/or a moisture evaporator based on TAC.

Don't think we'll ever see 'deluxe' figures again, even if we got a new farmboy Luke, but...

Wholeheartedly agree with you. I'd love to see something like that in 2017.

I'd definitely drop the $$$ on a Deluxe figure like this. I'd also throw in the Macrobinoculers, and a droid caller as well.

I'd be all for a new Deluxe line of figures that have great sculpts, paint apps, accessories and articulation... and they could even be core characters to boot.

Same here! Even though I already have 90% of those accessories. lol It's just nice to get the "extras" when paying almost $14 for a 4" Action Figure!
Now I'm not advocating a bunch of redos of main characters just with moar acc. and slightly updated sculpt. But there is a handful of updates we sorely need. And that Luke is at the top, along with Yak Face.

Honestly, Hasbro would have to put out some absolutely impeccable stuff in order to get me to buy more ANH versions of the main characters. I'm very happy and content with the VOTC Han, Legacy Leia and Obi-Wan, and TVC DS Escape Luke.

I still like the VOTC Han a lot. I'm more than happy with that version. The Luke is good too, but I just think his legs are a bit too short. Obi-Wan is fine as well. The VOTC Leia is ok, but I'd take an updated one as well.

I'd be really happy to see a nice line-up for the 40th anniversary in the SA 3.75" line, but I have the feeling if Hasbro actually does anything for it, they'll go with 5 POA and 6" stuff. The 4 rumored repacks in the WM line will probably be all that we see from ANH in SA 3.75".
