2024 StarSpeeder 3000 Star Tours Vehicle

That looks amazing! Never saw this coming. I'd consider it depending on the price. They don't need to pack it with a lot of play features; most kids won't know what the Starspeeder is. I wonder if a better REX figure could be on the horizon?

Thanks for those images. This is extremely well designed! An LCD front screen that shows clips from the ride? This will be worth it, but it won't be cheap.

And RX-24 on a Droid Factory card has me wondering if Disney might be tempted to repaint him as other characters in the future.

I have the original release & the reissue from a few years ago & this IS A HUGE improvement over them. Using an LCD video screen & getting rid of the tile cards that represent the screen & also select the mission is worth it alone. But the white & blue deco is soooooooooo much better than the burnt red. Hopefully there will be some left to go on SD.

These are limited to 3000. I want an extra Rex to keep carded but I don't think I'll even get a shot at one if the production run is that low. Surely these will hit the parks in modified form?

It’s a lot of tooling for an exclusive…I wonder if an orange 1000 version won’t be a regular release in the parks or something.

This is something I'd like to get, but if I can't on 8/12..it won't be like missing out on getting a bmf or razor crest for example. I do have the original. Just kinda hard to spended $300 while wallet is still cooling off from the cantina.
The original's tile cards to use as view screen, did take me back to when I was a kid and had this...before sw came along....

This looks really terrific and it just makes me SO glad I never bought a a Starspeeder at a wildly inflated price on the secondary market. I nearly bought a couple of used ones for the neighborhood of $300 a year or two ago, but backed out at the last second.

I definitely prefer the original Star Tours ride to the new version, and Captain Rex is a big part of why. The original paint scheme is also superior.

It is very strange that Disney is releasing this, though. It's a very expensive tie-in toy for what is essentially a defunct ride. The original Star Tours is dead and buried and this version of it doesn't exist anywhere. Odd move, but I'm happy they did it.

And also weird that it’s not celebrating a benchmark year or anything too.

I didn’t know the original Star Speeder toys ever demanded that high of a price!! I always wished I would have booth a few, but I also wanted to customize one into the white and blue paint scheme.

There’s a “customizing” sticker sheet coming with this one too. Wonder if it’s just blaster marks or something?

So the ship and figures are brand new, not even retooled from the older versions?

And they're limiting these to 3000 units? Thing's gonna be massively expensive and htf

This would've killed as a Haslab!

It is hard to tell but it looks like it used much of the previous tooling with sections updated. Definitely has added details all around the exterior & they added retractable landing gears. The rear is completely new with light up thrusters where the function buttons previously were.

The interior looks newly tooled not just for the LCD screen, but the added short wall separating the pilot from the passengers. That looks to have buttons which control some of the functions.
IMG_0011.jpeg

The previously released SS (1000) had 4 buttons on the back exterior of the vehicle. The top 2 buttons each controlled the opening & closing of the side doors on the same side as the button. The bottom 2 buttons controlled the sound effects, 1 being mostly C-3P0 & the other one ship & laser sounds. So the 2 buttons inside could be for the doors or sound fx, or they could be to control the video player.

Also this has 5 rows of 5 seats where the previous had 3 rows of 3 seats. It might make it seem this one is bigger, but these new seats are narrow & have upright seat backs. The previous seats were wider & the seat backs slanted back. Also these new seats end RIGHT by the doors. The previous seats ended about an inch from the doors. The previous version had a removable pilot seat that could be attached using the same socket that RX used. That chair is what I used in the following picture with the welding Ugnaught sitting in it (on the right)…

Cropped close ups of the features…

This says it includes the Droid Factory R2-D2 which I imagine would mean the build a droid sculpt. The picture of the box shows the R2 in the 3 legged leaned position. The previous SS releases had a hollow R2 that had no leg articulation & no 3rd leg. Only the dome rotated. It basically just fit into the droid socket & did nothing else.

Awesome analysis!
Man, now I want this thing. The greebling on the back looks great and I love that interior.

Also, we haven't had the ability to cram so many figures in a SW ship since the Kenner Rebel Transport

Technically since the original version of the Starspeeder toy was released, but point taken.

This looks fantastic. Going to cost a small fortune to get one in the UK

The original SS only carried 10 (11 if you count R2). 9 in the passenger seats + the pilot. This one carries 25 passengers + RX & R2.

Does this have retractable laser cannons like the original?
Yes. They apparently still flip up like old headlights. Speaking of headlights, this has light up ones as well as light up guns (both the flip up & added bigger underside guns)…

IMG_0019.jpeg

The flip up guns are the ones that look more like gun headlights in the pic above. The headlights are the entire front flat with the 3 white & 2 red elongated shapes.

The 2nd pic that @jedisquared posted above shows it’s the Droid Factory R2 for sure. I am curious what is attached to his dome that is holding him up & out of the ship. Also that compartment behind the droid socket with the lift up hatch is different. The previous version housed one of the small security holocam droids. It is a redeco of the droid that came with the EP1 Senator Palpatine…
IMG_0021.jpeg

This new version has something else in there. It might just be something that looks like an engine piece, or it could be some kind of function. It looks like a knob that turns (maybe?) & with its location it could be a way to turn RX to look back at the passengers. If I remember correctly, he was always looking back instead of paying attention to where he was flying, & would manage to turn back just in time.

DANG I love this so much. I’m astounded this wasn’t released for the 35th anniversary in 2022— I wonder if it weren’t planned for it, but pushed out for cost reasons. If anyone ends up with an extra…please do reach out!

This is my favorite detail. This panel is opened by the cast member performing load. It has a series of green lights that indicate which seats have had their seatbelts fastened. The fact they included it, beneath a working door, is incredible.

While it looks like there’s just the one seatbelt across the whole row, I’d love to add the little yellow pull tab to it. I also think the seats are too narrow for Teek to fit, but that’s a minor quibble.

Kinda hope the underside of the roof features the airplane-inspired cabin lights too, that’d be great.

Can't you buy it yourself? Or are you not US based?

That is a delightful detail and, man, I wish they had painted those lights!

Take this with a grain of salt, but Jayson reposted a tweet from somebody who supposedly spoke with a Disney customer service rep, who told the individual that the D23 merch would require a D23 membership to purchase it once it's listed on DisneyStore.com. Not only that, but some of the items would even require a 'Gold' D23 membership, whatever that is. Hoping the service rep got their wires crossed and any left over D23 stuff will be available to all come the 12th.

i would not be surprised if this is the case though. In past, Disney has been adamant about keeping things "exclusive" and limiting to D23 members and even to just gold-members, does feel like a Disney ploy....

There are two levels of D23 memberships, the General and the Gold.

General is free to sign up and just gets you access to newsletters, some discounts and events.

I suggest signing up for the General one, in case the exclusives release requiring membership.

Gold membership is the premium one which costs money, around $100/year in US. You get more discounts and event opportunities and better access to exclusive merchandise. And an annual gift, usually including a statue and other items.

I don't know how DisneyStore will handle the releases. I would expect that at least a General membership is required, being the items are tied to the D23 Fan Convention.

Reminder: Here's the landing page on DisneyStore.com.

These are going to be $1000 on eBay if they won't sell the extras to non members.

Hopefully the person just spoke to some rep who didn't know what they were talking about.

Out if curiosity, why do they call it D23?

It's either the year Walt Disney founded the company, or the year Steamboat Willie came out. Can't remember which.
from google: The “D” stands for Disney, and “23” represents 1923, the year that Walt Disney arrived in California and founded what was to ultimately become The Walt Disney Company.

Steamboat Willie was released 11/18/28

I just went to the D23 Expo page on disneystore. At the bottom of the page there is a “Shop D23 Exclusives” link that brings up available D23 exclusive products (recent & older product listings). Just to check I went to the product page for a Phantom Menace 25th pin & tried to add it to my bag.

[REJECTION BUZZER SOUND]

Then this notice appeared at the top of the page…
IMG_0036.jpeg

No where on the product page that loads does it say it is exclusive to D23 Gold Members. IT DOES however show it if you click on the Product Details dropdown link. It shows it VERY CLEARLY…
IMG_0037.jpeg

I have a bad feeling about this!
