Hopefully everyone sees that there is a new post in this thread and clicks on it.

Whether you are a veteran member with 50+ transactions or a brand new member with no transactions, go read the rules posted in this thread please. They all apply to YOU.

Lately, just about every single day I get emails reporting the posting of non transactional messages in sale and trade threads, members bumping their threads up too often (post padding), members asking more than retail value on currently available product, members threatening other members, members posting items for sale without prices, members engaging in deals with other members and not following through in a timely manner and more.

This is by far the most negative and problem ridden section of the entire forum. These are toys, guys. Why on earth are there so many issues? [Most] everyone here is an adult and should know the difference between right and wrong. There are also some younger members who may not have any experience buying, selling and trading. Everyone has to learn some how. If you are constantly having issues with a particular member, simply place them on your ignore list and move along. If you find yourself constantly having issues with newer members, I would suggest not entering into a deal without first checking feedback threads. If there is no feedback thread, move on to the next deal.

This forum is not a place for you to air your dirty laundry. If you have issues with other members, keep it to private messages and do not ever post the content of a private message or email on the public forum. The same goes with personal information such as real names, physical addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

That's it guys. I don't know what else to say. Infractions will be given just as fast as I can read through the emails and threads, so don't be surprised if you receive one or more when you break the rules. I admittedly don't see every little thing, but if you are caught constantly breaking the rules, you simply won't be allowed to play in this sandbox anymore.

Since this thread doesn't appear to be locked and is open to questions, I have a few:

    1. Have you guys ever looked into getting an itrader/reference setup on this forum? This way, users can leave feedback for one another and you can easily tell who is a reputable member and who might be a potential scammer/bad trader/buyer without having to dig for old lists of references that don't have any feedback messages attached.

    2. How old is "current"? If I have a figure that came out last year that you can't buy anywhere online for less than $20 and you can no longer find it in retail, is it considered scalping to ask $20 for said figure? And I don't mean to stir up drama, but I'm really curious: Why is this an issue? I mean, people are free to simply not buy from you if you're charging ridiculous prices and let's face it, there are just some items that you are never, ever going to be able to purchase at retail price again (like, say, R5-6 from the Scramble on Yavin BP that came out a few years ago, or Master K'Kruhk from the TRU exclusive BAD wave).

    3. What is the general concensus around here when it comes to buying/selling? Is paypal the universal method, or do people accept concealed cash/money orders too? Does the buyer pay first, or does the seller ship first? What happens when someone agrees to buy from you, you exchange addresses, and then they back out of the deal? Will that member be punished in any way or is this perfectly acceptable?

    4. Is there a list of bad traders/rippers anywhere? Is there a place where disputes can be settled? (You ship an item, the buyer complains that it wasn't in the condition that you stated or that it was damaged or that it never arrived, or you agree to sale something to a person and they never follow through with the purchase, etc)

    5. Are underage members allowed to buy and sell here? This always worries me knowing that I could be making a large sale to someone who could potentially get into trouble for buying from me.

I'm sorry for all of the questions. I do a lot of online dealing with another hobby of mine on another forum and just glancing over this thread, this section of the forum seems rather understaffed for an area where real cash and real items are involved and it also seems rather lax (or lacking) in the rules department...

This way, users can leave feedback for one another and you can easily tell who is a reputable member and who might be a potential scammer/bad trader/buyer without having to dig for old lists of references that don't have any feedback messages attached. We have discussed something like this, but nothing is currently in the works.

    2. How old is "current"? If I have a figure that came out last year that you can't buy anywhere online for less than $20 and you can no longer find it in retail, is it considered scalping to ask $20 for said figure? And I don't mean to stir up drama, but I'm really curious: Why is this an issue? If it's no longer available in the stores for retail pricing, it's no longer current. Most things can be found in the wild for up to a year after release depending on the area and how much back stock is misplaced and then found and put back on store shelves (obviously there are exceptions). After that, fair market value is acceptable. Fair, meaning the average going rate for said item and not $100.00 for a figure that was $8.99 a year ago and can easily be found for $20.00 shipped online.

Paypal is widely considered to be the way to pay for transactions because of the coverage they provide. If you purchase something and don't receive it, or if you receive something other than what you paid for, you can always contact them to help as long as you send as a regular payment and not as a gift. It's completely up to the buyer and the seller if they want to enter into an agreement and send cash, check or money orders through the mail. There are no rules against or for it. If a member agrees to a deal and then backs out and no money or product was exchanged, there will be no punishment (unless there are multiple complaints against a specific member who does this on a regular basis). If you have an issue with a specific member, adding them to your ignore list is the best way to avoid them.

    4. Is there a list of bad traders/rippers anywhere? Is there a place where disputes can be settled? (You ship an item, the buyer complains that it wasn't in the condition that you stated or that it was damaged or that it never arrived, or you agree to sale something to a person and they never follow through with the purchase, etc) Yes, we do have a Bad Seller/Buyer/Trader list stuck to the top of the Trade Feedback forum. If you have an issue with another member and it can't be resolved in a timely manner via private message, it's acceptable to let the rest of the collecting community know about what transpired (classified rules still apply). You can also contact a moderator for help as well.

    5. Are underage members allowed to buy and sell here? This always worries me knowing that I could be making a large sale to someone who could potentially get into trouble for buying from me. There are no age restrictions on who can buy/trade/sell. It's best to research feedback threads to see the history of each member. If you can't find a thread for someone just by searching, it's always okay to ask them for a link to the thread. If they don't have one, you would have to make a decision if you wanted to deal with them or not. It's completely up to your discretion.

When rules are broken, infractions are given, PM's are sent, accounts are banned, etc. depending on the severity of each instance.

Thanks for all of the answers. I was just checking because I do a lot of trading on a forum that has very, very strict rules for their trading section (for example, you're allowed one single bump every 24 hours. If you even bump your thread a minute early, you get an infraction. Three infractions gets you banned from the site. It's also against the rules to back out of a trade/sale once addresses have been exchanged and users can have their trading/selling privileges revoked for a number of reasons). I was curious about how this forum compared. Want to make sure I know all of the rules and such before I try trading/selling here again.

Also, if it came across as insulting, I apologize. Wasn't meaning to imply that staff here are incompetent or too soft or anything. It just looks as if you're the only one responsible for this entire section and looks like there has been some problems/drama recently with some users.

If you see a post that appears to be in violation of the rules, click the "Report Post" button and explain why you believe that post is against the rules, and Chris Wyman will look into it.

This is actually a serious problem that I've encountered (not here, but somewhere else). In most US states, persons under the age of 18 are NOT allowed to enter into a legal and binding contract with another person over the age of 18. What does this mean? Simply put, if you sell something to a member that is under 18, get their payment and ship their item, they can get their payment back via PayPal just because they are under 18. I had someone purchase something and the child's parents said they didn't want their child buying that item, and they used the parent's PayPal account without permission. PayPal took the funds back from my account and I lost my merchandise and my money.

Since there are members here under 18, I think it's important to make sure that you know who you're dealing with before selling or trading to them.

    Hi there~

I am a collector of Star Wars Books, Magazines and Comics. I have recently sorted through my collection, and have come up with a list of nearly 500 items I would like to part with. Instead of using eBay or Amazon, which I have done in the past, a friend suggested I try the RebelScum forums. So, here I am!

I want to make sure I follow the rules. So, before I make my first post, I have a few questions.

    Above, it states...
    - Do not start more than one For Sale thread at a time. If you have multiple items to sell, put them all in the same thread and title your thread to reflect this. Having more than one thread pushes posts off the front page quicker making it unfair to other users.
My question is this... Am I allowed to have one thread in the Modern area, and another in the Vintage area, at the same time?

Also, please help me understand how forums work. If I make a post with X amount of items for sale, and then go back to my post the next day and add some more items to the listing, does this "bump" the post? (I understand that "bumping is frowned upon, and I want to make sure I don't do so inappropriately.)

Well, those are my questions. I look forward to any reply. Thanks for the help!

    Yes.

Editing your original post does not bump it. Replying to it does.
