Thread: Vintage customs thread

Growing up, boba fett was my favorite star wars toy. I never needed the toy to do more than it did, because my imagination kinda covered the bases for me. I remember imagining that his rocket shot. I remember imagining he had a zip line to tie up his bounties like he tried to do to luke at the sarlaac. I remember imagining his targeting scanner actually went up and down, and i remember imagining that he had a flamethrower on his wrist guantlet.

Now that Im older, my imagination isn't as good, so i decided to make a Boba Fett toy that can actually do all those things:

I give you: Ultimate Boba Fett.

I have some short videos to show off his action features:

    Targeting Scanner:

    Magnetic wrist:

    Choking Hazard:

    "Flamethrower"

I unfortunately lost many of my WIP pics to a drunken 'cleaning up' of photos when i was trying to make space on my phone on vacation in Edinburgh. This is all I have:

Notably, this is not a full body paint job. I colour matched paint and only painted where i needed to. His targeting scanner also uses the original piece of plastic I cut off of bobas head, i just beefed it up a little with some milliput. Aannnd, this Fett didn't have a rocket when i got him, so i built a new rocket out of wooden dowel.

I purposely tried to give him an old and used look, and keep him as close to what i think a kenner take on this would have looked like.

His gun is made out of an old repro jawa blaster and bespin blaster, and some straight bits of wire from a paperclip.

What, no working jetpack you say?

    Yeah, no jetpack. Sorry

Addendum to above: it has come to my attention that it is not immediately obvious that the ear flusher in the picture is there because its his flamethrower fuel tank!

I searched long and hard for something that worked as a squeezy that fit Bobas tubing sizes. The ear flusher was the all-around winner as the water squeezy.

Excellent work, sir! The awesome action features aside, the paint apps, braid and soft goods are spot on.

Thank you Blue_Sky! This was one of those customs where i had multiple 'oh crap' moments thinking i ruined it, or had hit a wall with trying to source materials that worked. Im really happy with how he turned out!

Does anyone have printable files for R2 stickers? I've seen a number of astro droid customs here, but haven't tracked down any posts of the digital files / images to print them.

I've never printed them out but I know other people have. Test it out before using good (sticker) paper.
