Thread: Outrageous Offers

    Outrageous Offers

Greetings. I think I have an interesting question. What is the most outrageous price you have ever seen for vintage star wars toys? If you often sell at shows, what is the most ridiculous offer you have ever received? If you remember, what is they story behind the offer?

Personally, as I have previously shared, someone tried to sell me a POTF Anakin Skywalker for $70.

    Please, share your stories.

    Cheers,
    MasterRizz

If you want outrageous, take a look on some ebay listings

In person, I have seen a few crazy sellers at comic cons however the rest of the sellers there were more than reasonable. The one guy had atleast 200 higher per piece than everyone else. He said the other sellers didn't know what they were doing and he was going to buy them all out. The next day, all the sellers still had their pieces (with the exception of a few pieces that did sell before I went back) and he had no additional pieces.

People like that drive me nuts. They love to talk a big game.

There's a lot of fishermen out there trying to dangle a common item for hundreds or thousands of dollars in front of everyone in hopes hopes that some unknowing collector will bite. Either the seller is not knowledgeable on the subject and thinks they have gold because it's vintage Star Wars, the seller is delusional (like the one Toyman encountered), or the seller is blatantly trying to mislead would be buyers. I think the later is the worst, but all three will make you shake your head in disbelief.

On the other end of the spectrum are low ball offers that come from would be buyers. It's easily understood that everyone wants a good deal, but thinking that by offering a seller lets say $50 for something that is valued at $500 is okay is shameful. If a buyer low ball's a knowledgeable seller, well then the seller is going to laugh and say no. If a buyer low ball's an seller that has no idea what he or she has, that's just morally wrong. Imo, if you want to offer the seller a below market value price that's fine, just don't rob them. Give them a good deal so that both parties walk away happy.

Your other end of the spectrum point is spot on Wampa! This is precisely why I have lobbied in past posts to the vintage board to insist WTB posts state what they are willing to pay. The knife cuts both ways indeed!!

Don't forget to add the $10 extra for shipping. LOL!
Just like the time I could have met Mr. T at the mall. The entire day, I kept saying, "l'll go a little later, I'll go a littler later..." And when I got there, they told me he just left. And when I asked the mall guy if he'll ever come back again, he said he didn't know. Well, I'm never going to let something like that happen again!
