    Stranger Things

Is anyone else considering getting the new Stranger Things set? Except for Battle of Hoth environmental pieces I mostly stick to getting ships but I love the concept of this set. I might have to see it in person before deciding to pull the trigger.

Given that I have afforded 75810 The Upside Down a decent amount of coverage at Cool Toy Review I thought a dedicated thread, for however long the conversation lasts, would be a good idea.

For those that haven't seen the articles yet:

I like the set and would have it on display if it wasn't for the extra cost LEGO Australia has put on it.

Is the extra cost for all Lego in Australia or something only for this set?

It's on all things! We call it Australia Tax and, historically, it's because Oz was so far away from the UK (where most of its goods and services originated) that there was an extra cost of transporting material here. Nowadays it's because the extra cost has become so part and parcel with the Australian economy, which has been very strong for the last thirty odd years, that it's just an accepted form of taxation.

It got highlighted when Apple got taken to the Federal Court for overcharging Australians for ITunes downloads.

With regards to LEGO, the UCS Falcon was the equivalent to US$1000 here when it was US$800 in the US. Part of that is levvied by the government, but some of it was gouging on the part of LEGO, I'm sure.

Don't get me wrong - this happens all over the world. Look at the Eurozone pricing - one set I recently looked at was 20 euros more expensive in France than Germany. And don't start a Dane on this subject because their tax means that the price they pay for LEGO is the highest in the world!

But back on topic, the Stranger Things set is a bit too pricey for me. It's a nice looking build and would be a lovely display piece, but I'm just not into the show enough to warrant the cost. The mini Castle Byers on the otherhand...

Did anyone end up picking this up? I've been wanting to see a real world review of it before taking the plunge! It looks amazing!

I’m a fan of Jangbricks’ YouTube channel, and he’s posted a really thorough review on his channel. I’d check that out.
