Well, here it is. This is the just revealed Black & White Friday...but really Monday item.

I don't think it'll make it into my collection but I do think it looks really cool.
I love the fact that they used the original sculptor of the ROTJ Salacious Crumb puppet.

Yeah, I am still on the fence. I would rather have some other things before this, but if the price was right down the road, I would certainly pick it up.

Yeah, that pretty much seals it for me. I was so prepped for it to be Grievous that I wasn't sure I was interested, but the photos and that fact about the sculptor have me headed to the "buy" category.

I am extremely thrilled that I was wrong....This (Salacious Crumb) seemed like a no-brainer to produce! It is amazing that it took this long to come out! This is a fantastic piece and I am very excited to get it!

However, I stand by two things...One, that General Grievous is indeed in the 1:1 Bust pipeline and two, that he is a Creature.

So, yeah.

I don't think so. Salacious is only 27 to 28 inches tall, and more than half of that length would be in his legs. 17 inches sitting down sounds about right.

It isn't shipping until JUNE!
With Sideshow, you don't pay until the item ships...unless you choose the flex-pay option and it that case they give you a schedule as to when the items monthly payments will begin and what days they will be deducted from your account.

Fiberglass and polystone. Hmmm. I wonder if breakage will be a big issue. Although, latex or rubber doesn't age well and can crack over time.

My wife's favorite character in all of SW is Crumb. I sent her the link at work. She responded, "You have to get that."

I bit on this one... so with the matierieals used to make him how do you guys think its best to display? Also.. how do you keep it "fresh"... or make it last as long as possible?

As far as display goes, he's begging for some kind of pedestal I think. As for keeping him fresh... Fiberglass should last forever I'd think. You don't have to worry about drying out like rubber or latex, so I would say get a good can of compressed air to spray on it every month or so. That's what I would do.

My only concern with fiberglass, is how brittle is it? That curly tail for example. I really don't know how likely fiberglass is to stress fracture or chip.

Well, I can't really say definatively until Crumb actually arrives, but I can tell you that Bossk is a great bust and well worth owning. It *is* a bit of a pity that by not including shoulders, there's none of the yellow bits of the jumpsuit present, but that's a quibble in my mind.

Assuming Crumb is as awesome as he seems like he's going to be, I would lean towards him though. Mostly because they brought in the original sculptor to work on him, and while he freely admits that he's forgotten pretty much everything about making the original, it's still neat enough to give Crumb the edge in my mind.

MasterAbsinthe
04-06-2008, 01:45 AM
I agree Mister Gosh, that is the attractiveness I found in Crumb that the orginal sculptor was working with SS.That is the same reason I bought the SS 1:1 terminator bust,SS worked with Stan Winston Studios to create it.Imo anytime a company can work with the orginal dude,it gives the "item" a unique aspect that other "item's" lack.

Jack_Victory
04-06-2008, 09:54 AM
Those are great points! Thanks for the input. Yeah, I think I am leaning toward Salacious, but Bossk always one of my favorite characters for some reason. I like the original sculptor, plus you get a whole Crumb instead of just Bossk's head! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It really pains me to make the recommendation I did. The Bossk bust is one of my favorite items, and if you're a fan of the character, it's a no-brainer. However, to be completely honest, the busts haven't historically moved super-quick, and even with an ES of 250, it seems like a fair risk to take if you have to hold yourself to just the one item.

That said, it's not clear that the Crumb figure will move any quicker either, but there's less data to go on with the full-scale complete figures.

When you preordered, it *also* said it was an oversized item and that the shipping would almost certainly be much higher than the estimate, and gave you instructions on how to get a more accurate shipping quote (which you can do using this form. (http://www.sideshowtoy.com/helpdesk/?p=134))

Shipping is not refunded if you return.

Sorry to hear that. I managed to arrange with my regular FedEx guy to have him drop stuff off without signature, but Sideshow stuff typically comes FedEx Home Delivery, which is a different set of people and they won't do it.

Just an FYI, you can request that Sideshow use a different carrier if you don't want it to always be FedEx. I hate FedEx and I'm never home when they come so it's always a battle to get stuff. With Sideshow, I only get stuff with UPS now which comes much later in the day after I get home from work.

I've thought of seeing if they can switch me from Home Delivery to FedEx Ground. The only reason I hesitate is that Home Delivery can deliver on a Saturday and it seems like a disproportionate number of items I get from Sideshow end up showing up then. I'm a little surprised that this one is coming on a Friday.

my estimated shipping was $14.15 but my actual shpping charge was $46.50

i just got off the phone with SS and they pretty much said there's nothing they can do about it. he said they estimate shipping only by the weight not the size of the box. the boxes were bigger than expected wich is why the increased shipping costs. i can understand shipping costing more than they estimated but not almost 4x as much.

he also told me i could refuse the package but i would still have to pay the shipping charge http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You know, I think the Speeder Bike cost about $50.00 to ship to me and I know that thing is heavier than the Crumb. That is strange that it would cost around the same. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Yeah, Crumb can't weigh as much as the speeder biker and I hope the box isn't as big as the bike either

Without seeing the box- Im sure it is probably classified as oversize- that plus if you live far away adds up really quickly, one of the reasons I rarely order the larger Sideshow stuff through the web. I just let my LCBS pay the shipping for me.

He's roughly fifteen inches from the left knee across to the hand resting on the right knee, if you're looking at him head on.
He's much larger on the diagonal because of the tail, but if you were trying to slot him into a shelf that's deep enough, 15" wide is about the limit side to side you could get away with.

Yeah, I need to fit him into a smaller DOCENT shelf.
I think it is about 15 inches deep and about 17 inches wide.

I just tried a test fit in a half-width Docent. He's not a great fit there unless you remove the tail. With the tail, there's no way I could get him to sit in there without hanging the base/pillow off the edge. Side-to-side and top-to-bottom is fine, though, so if you don't mind missing the tail, it's a good fit (or if you put him on top and have a couple inches of space behind the shelf for the tail to hang out).

Don't! Contact Sideshow for a replacement. Current theory is that the white stuff is misapplied gloss coat. If that's the case "removing" it will damage the model.

05-10-2008, 10:17 AM
unreal. man Sideshow's QC has sure gone in the crapper. this is the 3rd straight big item i've received messed up (Silver Age IronMan helmet and Stealth IronMan). this isn't even like the Stealth Ironman being scratched during shipping, QC had to have seen white crap all over the head

Mister_Gosh

The theory making the rounds is that they wouldn't have. If the gloss coat was misapplied or was a bad batch, it'd have sprayed on clear and then clouded up while the statue continued curing in the box.

For those who don't see it, the pillow is in a back compartment in the styrofoam. Once you've extracted Crumb, turn the bottom piece of foam over and there's a panel you can remove.

Since I am planning on making some type of pedestal for him to sit on, I was thinking about not using the base he came with and just use the pillow. My thinking is, he would look more realistic that way, I would drill a hole in the pedestal for the metal pin, I wouldn't want him falling over.

So the interesting thing is that there seem to be three related but slightly different theories about what's up with the white eyes (if you assume for a moment that QC *did* look at the units and that the eyes weren't white then):
1) Bad clear coat batch that clouded during curing
2) Clear coat applied at inappropriate temperatures, leading to clouding during curing
3) Excessive moisture during curing, causing...you guessed it, clouding.

Given that we've gotten a couple "wet statue" reports, and that the wetness was apparently not paint/sealant (or I assume SirT would have noticed that when he wiped it off), I'm definately leaning towards water having gotten into the packaging at some point after inspection.

Yes, glad to hear that you guys got some good ones. Hopefully with all the flack I'm sure Sideshow is getting for these problems, they will make a change that won't allow anything like it to happen again.

like i said earlier in the thread, they've been screwing up alot lately. they should've learned from the Stealth IronMan fiasco, shipped improperly and alot of them arrived with wet, smeared paint. most of the Silver Age IronMan gold helmets had to be sent back too, mine arrived *rusted* and scratched/scuffed on the surface. i've been a Sideshow customer from the very beginning and i never had issues like this until late last year. there is absolutely no excuse for the Salacious screwup.

#310 has arrived, safe and sound. One issue, though....from the hole on his butt, the pillow, and the base, I'm assuming there is a peg that goes through and into Salacious Crumb. Where is this in the box? I have gone through all the foam, and cannot find the pin. Is this located in a pretty easy place to find, or did I just not get one?
Thanks!

If you're staring down at the styrofoam such that he'd be looking back up at you, the peg should be to the right of and slightly below his head.

#16 arrived today with the white cataracts. Funny thing is that I called 2 weeks ago and asked if they could check my order so if there was a problem they wouldnt have to pay so much shipping back to them and then back to me and she asured me that it would show up fine. Called sideshow back and they told me to get rubbing alchohol and a q-tip... rub lightly and it would come off... they were half right... came off but when dried it still clouded over a little. Kinda disappointed but they have great customer service so Im not too worried.

I just got Salacious Crumb this week and it had the same problem of the white eyes as some of the others. I got the same response from Sideshow to use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip which I did. I got most of the white stuff off but now his eyes look dead so I was thinking of using some glosscote to make his eyes look better so I was wondering if anyone has tried the same thing? I have asked about an exchange but I am not sure if there are anymore left in stock so I was thinking my options while I await a response.

Anyone go through the same thing?

Tweekem
08-23-2008, 07:33 AM
Personally I would exchange it. I sent mine back and got another one that was perfect.. I have never tried to repair factory defects but if you are good at it you can actually make the piece look better.

Anyone else notice the difference between the actual consumer goods, and the prototype on the Sideshow website (and the actual puppet)? As in the ammount of hair?

A small gripe for such a quality product, just a shame they went stingy with the hair is all.

Mighty_Jabba
11-02-2008, 12:53 PM
The prototype pictures with the black background do look different, but I think the actual thing looks better. It was too much hair on top. The pictures with the lighter background look pretty much like the actual thing.

It is definitely one of my favorite pieces, and probably one that will become a lot harder to get in the future since there weren't that many made, it's relatively hard to pack up and ship, and the people who bought it are probably relatively hardcore Star Wars fans (and thus less likely to get tired of it and sell).

It wasn't an itentional kick nor a hard one i was in a twilight sleep and was having a nightmare about the horror flick that happend to be on the tv at the time and when he climbed onto the bed and blew the whistle he was playing with i woke up and practically jumped out of my skin and he got kicked in the process. The statue was on a small dresser across from the foot of the bed. my son was a little stunned but not hurt. He kind of landed on the statue and reduced it to crumbs. I dont want anyone to think i was intentionally trying to hurt my son.

Hi, everyone. Does anyone know if I can remove the hazy white film from Salacious Crumb's eyes 6 years after coming out this way? There's a local store selling me one but Crumb's eyes look like they have cataracts. I want to make sure I don't pay so much for something that cannot be fixed. What would be a fair price to pay for him with his eyes like that? Thank you very much, Natalie.
