Wow, for a moment I thought someone had said something inappropiate and had gotten the thread locked, then I remembered this wasn't Wuher's http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We filled a whole thread! Yipeee! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I remember the time when we could fill a whole thread in 2 hours with trivia q&a.

Wow! We're awesome; our threads get locked because they hit max-posts!
Everyone should pat themselves on the back. And don't brag to the Wuhers. I thought about it, but that would be a sure fire way to get them over here and purposely make a lockdown.

Poo doo ! I've got to work tonight so as I thought might happen I won't be able to listen in until probably Friday.

I will have to change my extra shift so I can keep my Wednesdays open.

Look forward to another awesome show. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yep, my keyboard is still recovering from that experience. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif
And I think we might have filled up an entire thread in just half an hour that day, especially on that last question.

This is kind of off topic (what isn't around here?) but I just got a message from my local Imperial garrison commander. He wants me to let you all know of an additional duty that you all have as loyal citizens of the Empire...

Pete's house, birthdays, fantasy football, seriously?!? At least you skipped the Indiana Jones update! I like the show, boys, but STAR WARS is the focus. C'mon, lets clean it up and get it down to an hour and a half. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Eric_Geller
10-26-2007, 06:36 PM
Okay, so....

1) Pete's house - I'm sure I wasn't alone in hoping that Pete was fine and so was his stuff (some of which WAS Star Wars); this conversation simply reassured us.

2) Birthdays - I think it's a great idea for Jason and Pete to show that they are aware of and involved with the community in lots of different ways.

3) Fantasy Football - at least the team names are Star Wars related. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

4) Indiana Jones - while I personally don't like the series, it did come from the creator of Star Wars and just like other George Lucas-related news that might not be Star Wars-related, it's still coverable.

Sorry if I'm being too critical, but I really enjoy the way the show branches out from the basic Star Wars news and collecting that it was originally. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is great, but the more content the better!

Jorbex
10-26-2007, 10:31 PM
I agree with Rawas; the extra content is what I like about the Force-Cast. Most of the news as such is available on TFN and RS during the week previous to the cast, so that's not really what makes me listen every Friday. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm seriously considering giving Jason and Pete a 5-GB memory card in return for a 4 hour show. I look forward to the Force-cast all week, so the longer it lasts, the happier I am.

Careful there boys! I love long shows as well, but more 4 hour shows? We don't want our favorite hosts to burn out! I say go as long as the material allows. Jason and Pete have done a fine job determining when to shut it down. To me it is always just the right amount of show!

Sorry, but if the show was only SW news headlines read to us, like the morning traffic report, who would listen?

The magic of the show is Jason and Pete's personalities, sense of humor, inclusive fan community and all the little banter in between.

No worries everyone! The great thing about this new-fangled podcast technology is we can fast-forward, go back, or just skip entire episodes. We all enjoy different aspects of the show. (as it should be http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) I, for example, really enjoy the parts that feature me. I can listen to them again and again.

...um excuse me for a minute...

Don't you roll your eyes at me wife!

..anyway, valid point made about non-Star Wars content Padme, but let's all get together and enjoy the show and community that Star Wars helped bring together, because we had common interests. Let's feel the love in the forums people! Kum bi yah.... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not exactly feedback-related, but I couldn't find another place to mention this. I just got my copy of The Star Wars Vault! Am I crazy, or was that book supposed to come out three days from now? Don't get me wrong, I love getting books early, but doesn't anyone think the Barnes and Noble employees would've noticed such a gross oversight?

Jade_Jedi
10-27-2007, 05:13 PM
Same thing happened to me, I got mine about 2 weeks before the Australian release, I guess some employees just don't read the release date. I actuale sent photos of the book to TFN but they couldn't use them for leagle reasons, which is understandable.

So, as we were checking out our fancy new embedded video on the Podcast page (http://www.theforce.net/podcast/story/ForceCast_October_26_2007_109703.asp) we found this line:

"Be part of the action on Wednesday, November 7 at 8:00 p.m. EST for another LIVE taping of the Force-Cast on TalkShoe"

Does that mean we're taking the week off for the holiday? I know it's sad to be without them for a week but I'd rather it be they just aren't there than to have to actively miss them when they are there.

Anyway, can we get official confirmation or denial of my speculation?

DarthFagan

It is of my opinion the boys should take the week off! They deserve it! It sounds like Jason is a big Halloween buff like me (watched Garfield's Halloween and the Great Pumpkin last night) and I am sure Pete would like to go visit his niece... what's her name again? Anyway I vote for a week off so our boys can rest and come back refreshed and ready for the Sansweet interview! Remember EAST COAST this time for C5!

Yes, but we'll need a micro-cast to fill the void! And you'd think, with the most dense population, the East Coast would get some Celebration love! Why not New York City!!!??? Or Boston? Or Albany?

Eric_Geller
10-30-2007, 05:40 PM
I could think of some ideas for a Halloween micro-cast. But I definitely agree that Jason and Pete, and for that matter all the Force-Cast crew, deserve a week off for all their spectacular hard work.

EDIT: You know now that I think about it, I just happen to have a Four-Word Story "micro-micro-cast" lying around here somewhere...oh wait! I emailed it to the Force-Cast! Maybe they could use THAT as a micro-cast! *hint hint*

haha, TallestJawa, just watched the most recent video, LOVED IT!

For those of you who haven't seen the front page, no force-cast this week. Wait a second, No Force-cast? NOOOOOOOOO!!!! That's....highly unlikely! In it's absense however, I think i will take rebelscum's advice, and lock myself up in my room with ice cream, soda, and an ipod full of micro-casts. Yummy, a Force-cast float!

There are a lot of good ones this year!
Snow bunny Padme looks good, the Dorme is hysterical (kudos to her, knowing well that no one she ran into on Halloween would know who she is) and the little Yoda feet-booties on that baby are killer cute.
But my favorite, just for best picture alone would have to be this one
http://www.rebelscum.com/halloween/2007/image7.asp

I didn't participate this year, although I did last year (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/Alpha84/Halloween/Joelyoda.jpg). For me the best part of the contest is the kids and the impressive and original homemade costumes. And I bought my full Vader costume this year, so...

Anyone here on there?

Snow bunny: yeah, thought Jason would like that! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Dorme: totally funny! One of the best this year.

Yoda toes: Absolutely the best thing I've seen this season. I mean, his ears were cute but the you scroll down to those toes and you're all OMG!! That is so ADORABLE! (Mrs. Jawa once knitted an R2D2 hat and now Mr. Jawa is trying to get her to knit Yoda-toe-socks but she insists they will turn out just as giant and misshapen as R2 did http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

These were all awesome costumes! I liked the idea of the ice-cream man costume, it's just one of those awesome costumes that non-fans and casual fans won't get, and you can have a good inside laugh with your friends. These are all so much better than any Star Wars costumes I ever had for Halloween. Ok, so I'm not sure whether Jason was referring to Pete or us, the listening audience when he said, "You can be the next Julie Chen," but I'll go on record as saying that where awesomeness is concerned, Pete far outweighs the Chen-bot. She doesn't do bad impressions, and that alone puts Pete ahead by a wide margin.

And if he meant the listeners... it's not even fair to compare.

I am watching Ewan McGregor and Chareley Boormam's series "Long Way Down" which I got on DVD for Christmas. Right Now I'm watching Episode 2 which documents their ride through Tunisia where they visited the Lars Homestead set.

I'm prompted to write based on on Jason an Pete's brief 'touch-on' the subject of their love/hate relationship with Ewan on a recent episode where Ewan's visit was brought up by another listener.

The impression I got from watching the episode was that Ewan was absolutely thrilled at being able to go and visit the set and the Star Wars Hotel and that his reaction at not being recognized by tourists while being there (and posing for photos beside a poster featuring his alter ego) was more a joke than actually genuine dismay.

From different and various appearances I've seen featuring Ewan, recently, where the subject of Star Wars has come up - I think that Ewan has more affection for his experience on the films than he has previously expressed.

I think as time passes an's harder edge towards Star Wars will smooth out even more.

You know you have Force-Cast on the brain when your correcting spelling sentences and you read:

The forecast for today is supposed to be good.

as

The Force-Cast for today is supposed to be good.

I almost asked the student if she listened before I caught myself!

Shouldn't this have gone on the "You know you're a Force-Cast fan when..." thread?

Hey Guys,

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gifHow the heck do you chat while the shows on live, is there a "Talkshoe" instant message forum? I sighed up but can't seem to find it.

Thanks,

okay. so:
1) you got to talkshoe.com
2) Download the Talkshoe software by scrolling down to the bottom, and clicking download. Install the software.
3) Go back to talkshoe.com
4) Sign in with your account.
5) Go back to download and click "Done" in step 2.
5) Click on Live Now
6) About 10 minutes before the start, the Force-Cast will show up in that list.
7) Click on the Force-Cast
8) click "Join In! Talkshoe Live Classic!" which is the big purple button. That way you can listen to the live stream, chat with all of us using the built-in chat room, and call in if you have a microphone.

I recommend joining a random podcast before, so you can make sure it works. There's usually at least one going, more in the evening. If this doesn't work for you, let me know!

You can also go to the Force-Cast LIVE page (http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/46670) directly, once you've logged in. Bookmark it so that you can go back to it right before the show starts. The chat is a little hard to follow for first-timers, but we're all willing to help you out.

I have a couple of ideas:

1. Live bonus microcast from the Nadel wedding. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

2. Does the FC promote on other podcasts? I listen to a couple that might run a promotional ad.

3. A feedback microcast, that might end up being no so micro. J&P keep talking about being behind in feedback.

Keep up the great work, everyone.

I was thinking of "The Signal" (a Firefly podcast) and "The ScapeCast" (a Farscape podcast).

There are a good number of Star Wars fans on staff at each program.

Well I thought this would be the best place to express my thanks to Jason, Pete and the rest of the gang.

I have been listening for a while and I just want to say thanks for making the days I listen to the Force-Cast alot better. I used to be just a Hasbro collector, but after listening to you guys I have began getting into many other things in the big world of star wars. Normally I would have just fast forwarded to the collecting segment but you guys just make me keep listening to the hole show. You guys make me laugh so hard. One day I would like to call in, but if only I could findout what time your show is on Australian time http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. I had a hard time logging onto TalkShoe -- evidently right about the end of the show and the timing of this "crash".
But when I ran back through the TalkShoe Classic on the chat I was appalled. I had logged on for about sixty seconds earlier during a call and suddenly the language got pretty rough.
Is there any way to (1) disallow "guests" who are anonymous and (2) calm down on the poor choice of language ourselves? Certainly we could abide by at least the same decorum and language as on the rebelscum forums.
Cheers to all y'all who respectfully treat each other.

You're totally right! All that "Guest" wanted to do was flame and complain. At first it sounded civil, but towards the end he sorta lost it. Especially with that last comment. Well, at least Talkshoe has his IP and can track him down. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif Regarding the issue of cursing and children being present, I couldn't agree more. That's the main problem I have with Koolguy. It's not so much that he's ... a little strange, but rather that he curses like a sailor. And especially now that we've got Andrew chatting with us, we have to put on a good impression. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Perhaps an official forcecast source before the next show can invite the perpetrator(s) back and let them know they are welcome but MUST conduct themselves appropriately. And if this doesnít work then block them the next time. If this is a somewhat troubled person we don't want to ostracize them too quickly for fear of pushing them to other extremes. That may sound alarmist, but these are precisely the individuals we cannot ignore for fear of tarnishing the community further. Last night I read very disturbing evidence not appropriate to these boards associating another familiar sci-fi franchise with a particularly heinous crime. And we wonder why people label us. Good Grief!

It's a lot to ask us to monitor our own community when other groups donít seem to have many of these issues, but what choice do we have? I guess our brand of fandom CAN be volatile and especially attractive to people with sad tendencies. An imaginary world where one can take refuge from themselves and judgment.

I lost some sleep over this last night. Itís very distressing. Being unpopular and awkward is one thing but inappropriateness in the presence of kids and antisocial behavior is another. I just wish we didnít have to discuss these things so much. Everything does have a dark side I suppose.

One of the main reasons I enjoy Star Wars so much is that itís primarily FOR kids and leaves out many adult weaknesses and concerns. How ironic that I would be encouraged to abandon the company of other enthusiasts for fear of association with those same issues.

Help?

Well, let's see...

1. An anonymous Talkshoer used derogatory language to insult Jason and Pete; a surge of negativity towards said Talkshoer followed.

2. Andrew told Jason and Pete to be "racist against Nintendo," and told Jason specifically not to get a Wii.

3. Andrew also said something about how being a bum on the street is worse than being a Star Wars fan

4. My ShoePhone caused severe feedback that was recorded on Jason and Pete's end when they put me on, simultaneously causing my Talkshoe audio to cut out and forcing me to restart the client.

I'm sure there's other stuff too, but that's what I remember most vividly.

I agree with Mike. It's just too bad I can't win more than once a month. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif In all seriousness, I think that the idea is a great one. However, I wouldn't want to pressure Jason and Pete into regularly a) giving away Star Wars stuff and b) having to pay shipping. If you want an example of the "Trivia for Prizes" idea going bad, just picture this: in one month, the four winners are Satka, Andrew, Jorbex, and Daniel. That's like $768549323748 in shipping!

I've tried on both IE and Firefox but it doesn't make a difference. I do enjoy coming in and just listening to the force-cast a few days early, but I'd also like to talk with all of you guys. Hard to strike up friendships if I'm silent all the time.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Let's start with the basics:

1. Did sign up for a TalkShoe account?
2. Did you download & install the TalkShoe software?

Wasn't sure where to post this, but none of the three most recent casts are playing on that podtrac thing. Just goes from 'buffering' to 'loaded' and sits at 0:00, doing nothing. I tried it from a few different computers, and getting the same thing. I can't download these things at work, so I rely on the streaming audio for my forcecast fix!

I'm in a good mood this morning (date/time Saturday 16th 0900) and I just wanted to say that I look forward to every Saturday morning because it means freshly brewed coffee, a day off work, the newspaper and The Force Cast.

I D/L the show the moment I get up and I put it on through the home theatre and I'm in SW heaven. I deliberately turn up the bass a little so that Pete sounds like...well...Billy Dee and Jason sounds like...umm...Carrie Fisher...NO I kid - Harrison Ford, Harrison Ford!

Just wanted to say that I'm still loving the show and still listen every week. I have been unwell over the past few months and although things are pretty tough right now The Force Cast continues to be 'a bright center' in my universe.

Bless you boys, you're more valuable than you realise...

Jason and Pete,

Just want to say, you guys are so at home doing the show now that your conversation is perfectly and professionally fluid. One of the results of this genuine chemistry I believe is that each week you guys get funnier! This is good because the show doesn't lag regardless of topic, there are laughs all along the way. For instance, personally I'm not interested in the goings-on of actors who were once hired for a few weeks to play a role in a Star Wars film. However that bit with Chris Lee had me nearly get in an accident while driving and laughing so hard, and before that with Pete's Cosby shtick. Maybe I shouldnít Forcecast and drive? Good times my brothers, keep em coming.

That was actually the first thing they told me in driver's ed class: never drive while listening to a Star Wars podcast. Apparently it's the leading cause of vehicular geekdom in the United States.

Might make a point on the mic/speakers etiquette.

Beat me to it, shaz. Fans really do need to be conscious of the efficient way to call into the live show (or any other live show for that matter).

Some best practices:

1. Turn down the volume on your mic when you are on the "air". We all want to hear ourselves live when we are on and crank up the speaker/mic volume, but this simply is a big no-no.

2. Speak at a normal voice tone level. Do not talk louder than you normally would on a regular phone call. Think of a cell phone - the louder you speak into it, the worse the listener on the other end can hear you.

3. Do not place the mic right in front of your mouth. Leave a little distance between your face and the mic for the best signal capture possible.

4. When possible, try to call into the show using a regular LAN line. I know there might be long distance charges applicable for those that do not use VoIP service, but remember the show is live and the signal is compressed on TalkShoe, so using a cell phone or soft phone (especially over a wireless connection) will not be as clear as that from a LAN line.

Great show this week guys, even when technology kicks you in the knees, you're still the best in my opinion! This week has been very hectic for me and it was great just to sit down and relax and listen to the FC.

Just to clerify for anyone scratching their heads: Dan Curto is not representing the Star Wars community on Dancing with the Stars or even embarassing us on Pants Off, Dance Off...

I'd like to see a video Force-Cast...and no, I'm not talking about FCTV. Even if it's just a live video broadcast from the studio DURING the Talkshoe recording. The only purchase they would need to make is a good-quality webcam. Sites like Ustream and Yahoo Live will take it from there. I mean, I understand their hesitation. But I have to say, their CIV video-cast was quite possibly one of the best parts about the convention. And this is coming from someone who had to catch it later; I left on Sunday morning and wasn't able to attend their recording.

Jason, Pete, if you're reading this...please?! I would even buy you a webcam if it would convince you to do video broadcasts during the Talkshoe session!

Hmmm ... I have mixed feelings about a Video Force-Cast.

On one side, I can see the potential of a video incarnation : expressions, winces, impersonations !
On the other, video would drastically change my Force-Cast Fan positioning, and I'm not sure it would suit me.

You see, as of now, I listen to FC episodes while attending to cerebral-free activities (house chores, shopping, slowly dozing off to dreamland). I have a proximity with those voices that I feel would not be reproduced in video form (and I wouldn't be able to do something else at the same time)

Watching a video creates a distance (by this uncrossable screen) between me and the moving images.
Listening to audio nearly makes me feel as I'm with them in the studio !

Dex1138
03-05-2008, 10:45 AM
I'm with Satka. I mostly join the FC on my commutes so going entirely video would not be a good thing for me...or the other drivers http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I would be down with an occasional vidcast say for a special episode or once in awhile just for the heck of it.
Although, I suppose I could still just listen to the vidcast and it would be the same as it is now, eh?

MickC
03-06-2008, 04:27 PM
I like the idea of a video-cast, but I'm sure the guys would not do this on a regular basis. For the very reason that some other people mentioned, about being able to listen rather than seeing. It's definitely something that can be promoted as a special event though. I like the idea overall.

I don't really like the idea of a video force cast eithir. I mean sure it would be cool to see the faces behind the impressions but seriously most of the time Jason and Pete would be just sitting there. A special video forcecast everyonce and awhile would be cool but I think I like it as audio for now.

Perhaps not. I downloaded this week's podcast off the rebelscum link this morning and it was complete. Near the end (evidently when TalkShoe went into "silent mode"), the guys mention the icy weather Canton was experiencing, and they said that the conditions there may have contributed to the technical difficulties this past Wednesday. Perhaps the Internet connection was briefly severed. If you're listening to the "complete edition", you'll hear the TalkShoe "You're unmuted" voice come across in the background.

Perhaps this was not a TalkShoe issue after all. But that would be the first time, wouldn't it? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

That was probably me you're referring to. For some reason, my brand-new headset -- which sounds better than crystal clear in Audacity recordings -- refuses to play nice with Skype. Every Skype call I make degrades my headset quality to that which you all heard on Wednesday and Friday. And seeing as my primary use for Skype is to call in on Wednesdays, this problem is highly annoying.

Does that happen to anyone else? Or do I just have too many distractions in my life?

Listen to the live show on Wednesday nights with some of us and you won't have to worry about this happening ever again. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wish that I could, but my life at this point isn't constructed in such a way that I can be near my laptop and internet for two hours at 5 (PDT) on a weekday.

Hopefully one day soon, though.

Edit: Plus I don't really look at it as a problem. It's like when you see a dollar on the ground, then when you pick it up it's not just a dollar, it's a 20.

I do all my podcast downloads manually so I get a little obsessive about hitting "refresh" on iTunes several times a day, just in case...

I laughed when i read that because it's so true. Yea I get into the chat big time and get distracted from the show at times. The great thing about the chat is you get to participate and whatever you miss...you get to hear again on Friday

Hooray for JimmyMac! The "Star Wars Golden Throats" Galaxy of Music is just what the doctor ordered! A barrel of laughs! But I had to turn down the volume on my computer so people wouldn't freak out as they walked by... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Love the Galaxy of Music, Jimmy! Keep it up! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So far the 3 episodes have been great.

I think that has to be one of our new inside jokes.

Oh and I know we're kind of past this topic, but boy was that GoM great. I've gotta remember not to listen to them in public though. From the dreamy smiles and girlish giggling during the Ewan montage to the look of horror during Bai Ling's... performance, people must have thought I wasn't right in the head. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm also starting to like that Christopher Lee song too much. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I agree with the GoM as well. I have had Name Your Poison running through my head since it was first played on the Force-Cast.

Oh and thank you Shazbazzar for the Bai Ling song. I now know who to blame for that. You will pay.

Loved the new GoM, but where was Natalie and her rapping from SNL? Was it deemed to offensive for an all ages show or could a usuable clip of it not be found?

It's on YouTube (unless NBC had it pulled) and I believe it was censored on broadcast

Hello All, new listener to TFC here within the past month or so and just now getting to rebelscum, sad as that is. I just wanted to make an introduction and comment on the show. This week's show was great! IT's always fun to remember that there are women Star Wars nerds (though I've dated one for the past 4 years) and that the micro-cast was hilarious. Scariest thing I've heard for awhile. Anyways, now that I've ranted long enough, I can't wait for next Friday, which is now TFC-day here.

One more thing.... The EU definitely needs a reboot. Though without it there wouldn't be a Quinlan Vos, of which is my favorite character. Also, the LOTF series has it's moments, the newest released book was a brilliantly written one in my opinion. Since it's a bestseller though I doubt I'm the only one who thinks that.

Is anyone else getting strange errors in the mp3 files? Each time I download the episode via iTunes or a feed reader, the episode crashes my mp3 player. Maybe it's just my mp3 player in need of an upgrade.
