if it even comes close to this I am sold:

I have the (unfairly maligned) Yoda bust on display in my collection; I also have the 1:1 Bossk on pre-order. If Grievous lives up to its potential, then I will undoubtedly order it as well.

This is insane.

Never considered 1:1's before (Maul was great, but eyes and teeth looked bad for a collectible of that calibre), but I may consider this one.

I really hope they make the eyes right on this one, ideally, they use glass eyes.

i didnt know that the yoda was maligned. i dont have any complaints on mine. as far as a 1:1 grevious goes i will definatly buy it. the next 1:1 bust should be from the PT. hopefully we will get word soon on if its going to be the general or not.

I think the maligning all happened before the thing shipped. Once people were posting good quality photos of the thing in-hand, the complaints dried up.

The newsletter mentioned that there were two SW items going up for B&W Friday/Cyber Monday. It also mentioned that the *Monday* release would be "a creature of life-sized proportions". Seems like a reasonable guess that it would be Grievous.

Hmmm... Tusken Raiders have been referred to as vicious creatures by Clieg Lars. Or Jawas- also been referred as creatures by C-3PO.

I'm just post pondering here.

That is exactly what Grevious is...A creature is a created being, as opposed to a creator. The term is used colloquially to mean an animal, and is sometimes used to mean monster. It can also refer to: Creature, literally "something that is created", sometimes used in theology to contrast a created object with a creator deity under discussion. Greivous was created with his cyborg body after his natural body was so damaged.

I believe in Star Wars, the term 'creature' refers to species and back ground dudes. I think Grievous, or Yoda, or Chewie count as characters not creatures.

Yoda and Chewie wouldn't be considered Creatures, either way...
Although, Dooku talks about Maul being a disgusting creature in one of the books.

"We have a couple of fun new Star Wars collectibles to show you on Black & White Friday and Cyber Monday this year!"

Grievous isn't "fun" and I wouldn't use the word "creature" to describe him.

What would you call him? Creature seems like as good a term as any...all the non-humans in the OT came out of the "Creature Shop", background or not. Jabba, Yoda, even Chewie, as I recall.

Yeah...He's gotta tapped for what they're calling "Cyber Monday".

Fun fact, it's not just them (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_Monday) calling it "Cyber Monday". The term was coined a few years ago and is based on the theory (which is not entirely substantiated) that the Monday after Thanksgiving is the big sales day for online retailers, as opposed to the traditional Black Friday.

I am extremely thrilled that I was wrong....This (Salacious Crumb) seemed like a no-brainer to produce! It is amazing that it took this long to come out!

However, I stand by two things...One, that General Grievous is indeed in the 1:1 Bust pipeline and two, that he is a Creature.

So, yeah.

HaHaHa I got mine ordered already, I can’t believe Crumb is cheaper than a usual Sideshow bust! Sideshow seems to never announce a new bust until their last one is shipped so I didn’t think they’d announce Grievous before Bossk Ships. Maybe they worry about the cancellations.

A lot of us were going by the actual definition of 'Creature'. Guess that was our fault. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Also, since there is evidence to the fact that SSC have been tooling around with the 1:1 Grievous bust idea and that is was cyber monday, I think our conclusion that it was going to be grievous was dead on. But perhaps that was SSC's point. Maybe there was method to their madness. Afterall, we have been talking about a Grievous bust over on the sideshow collectors forums for months now.

I guess this means I may finally have to try and jump into this line.

Oh, you've potentially violated Mister_Gosh's Greater High End Collecting Theorem which states:
If you are planning multiple purchases which are seemingly far apart, the chance that schedules will change such that you will be charged for them on the same day will be directly proportional to how much of an inconvenience this would be.

It looks as though this will be my fourth SS 1:1 scale bust (following Yoda, Bossk, and Palpatine). The only one I regret not buying is Darth Maul.

I had some misgivings about the Palpatine bust when I saw some of the early user images, but I was floored when I received mine – it looks so much more impressive in person (while the bust isn't perfect, the hood helps to conceal some of the deficiencies – plus it looks more sinister that way). It's just an incredible piece, and well worth the $500.

I can't believe I started this line honestly. I told myself I wasn't going to do it when the Greedo, Maul, Bossk and Yoda came out, but when that Palpatine was announced, I pre-ordered it without even being in control of my actions. It was like the Emperor was calling my name and making me click that button. Once I did that, the General was mine before it was even announced. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Seriously though, I collect the Gentle Giant 1:6, 1:7, Mini-Busts, Sideshow's 1:4, 1:7 and 1:1 now. Throw in some awesome prints and artwork along with Master Replicas/eFx stuff and I'm spent! I do want to go back and eventually get the rest of these 1:1 scale busts, but it'll take time and I'm fine with that.

This is the first 1:1 bust to really seriously tempt me, if I went to the darkside this would be the one. He is really impressive and very eye catching in person.

I have R2 arriving in September; I'm planning on the eFX Obi extreme, eFX McVader helmet and the X-Wing. That coupled with my two 1:6 Vaders, 2 Stormtroopers and 2 Rebel Troopers that is a lot to commit to this winter. The Vaders are set for Q1 2009 and there is a good chance so will the X-Wing. But on this one I'm really tempted.

The SS 1:1 scale busts are one of the most costly and addictive lines modern high-end SW collectibles. That said, they're definitely worth the investment if you can afford to collect them (and you have enough display space).

Anyway, I can relate to your dilemma. I initially thought I had enough willpower to stay away from the SS PF figures, but ever since the Anakin PF was announced, I've found myself unable to resist them any longer.

Hello, I'm new here and have a question. I've never purchased a bust before and am not too sure how it works. I recently got the efx stormtrooper helmet and i'm in love with it. I also just purchased the MR dooku lightsaber LE off ebay and now i find this!! Oh, and lets not forget the efx obi wan xtreme saber that i absolutely must have. I think my wife is starting to get a little fed up with my large star wars purchases. I notice that the GG is up for "preorder" and doesnt have an edition size yet. if it's on preorder right now will it eventually go to regular ordering status or might this sell out soon during the preorder and i should jump on this while i can. you see, my dooku hasn't even arrived yet and i'm already eye'ing this.
Basically my question is, do you guys think i have time to wait on this or get it while i can?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, Jeff - welcome to the boards. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't think that the Grievous bust is likely to sell out anytime soon. That said, if you pre-order it from Sideshow, you aren't charged until the item is ready to ship (which in this case is the 4th quarter of 2008 - probably December). As long as you don't use Flexpay, there is no deposit, which means that if you decide to cancel your order before the item ships, it doesn't cost you anything.

deathstar1000
08-30-2008, 05:33 AM
Also, if want smaller payments instead of getting hit with the full amount all at once, you can do the FlexPay option. But, like Pepe said, their is a cancellation fee for that one, which is minimal.

And welcome to the boards!

With the Grievous bust, eFX Studio Scale X-Wing, Indy PF figure, Medicom Royal Guard, Ambush on Hoth diorama, as well as the 1:6 scale Stormtrooper and Ki-Adi-Mundi figures, December is shaping up to be an expensive month.

I just tend to buy whatever interests me, provided it comes from one of the six main features. Grievous is, to me, one of the least interesting characters in the SW canon, but the SS bust is so impressive that I decided to pre-order one anyway. Plus, I'm kind of addicted to the SS 1:1 scale busts – Palpatine is easily the best one to date, but I think Grievous has the potential to top it.

Well, here in a couple minutes, my wallet will be taking the same punch in the face that you all have experienced (or will actually).

I give! I give! This is way too cool of a collectible to not have. I actually think its a pretty incredible price for the piece too...something I don't often think.

I'm deciding between Corner Store Comics (http://cornerstorecomics.com/), which him up for $450, and buying direct from Sideshow. Save $50.00 and have to wait longer, or score $25.00 reward dollars and get him as soon as released. Which is more valuable?! I can't decide...

Oh, and this will be my 1st 1:1 bust. Something tells me with this release, it won't be my last. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, they are kind of addictive. I now have Salacious Crumb, Yoda, and Greedo, with Grievous and the droids on order. I would buy the other existing 1:1 busts if I could get a very good deal on them, but otherwise I'll probably just wait and see what else comes out. (Hoping for an Ackbar!)

Yeah, even if you aren't a huge Grievous fan, this is a must have. Just look at that thing! It's a lot easier to get a masked character to look dead on then it is with a human character, but if Sideshow releases this piece and it looks like the promo piece, it might even rival the Emperor and that would be very difficult to do.

This will be my first and only planned 1:1 bust, but you know how that goes; “Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.”

Ditto. At first it seemed odd that they were choosing obscure aliens and not major characters (well, Maul and the emperor aren't exactly obscure, but you get what I mean). But now I love it. I'm not sure that I would want busts of the human characters, partially because having life-sized human heads sitting around in my collection seems a little spooky, and partially because the chances of them being able to pull off a perfect likeness seem pretty slim. There always seems to be something that ruins the likeness for me. But aliens are relatively easy to do, and I find that the aliens are a lot of what makes Star Wars feel like Star Wars.

I would love more alien busts. Especially an Ackbar, but most of the cantina aliens or Jabba's Palace aliens would also be great. I'd like to pick up Bossk if I can get him cheaply enough.
