View Full Version : The Force-Cast Collector-Cast (renamed)

What does everyone expect from the show?
Juicy Spoilers?
Pictures of Curto's Current Collection?
A Guide of how to protect figures?
A Lecture of Collectible History? (Star Wars)

What do you want? Lets say it out so Dan knows what to do to entertain us! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I want it to be across all lines, with tips of collecting, have his own QnA and a giveaway each session with a question that reflects of what happened in the Curto-Cast or something to do with collecting! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, the Dan Curto part of the show(collecting) has been pretty informative since the show begun, and if he keeps up what he has been doing up until now, I am sure it will be a hit.

Although I am not a collector, sometimes he does mention somethings that I want to get(like Darth Revan, Malak & Roron Corobb.. and I am still waiting for those to show up at the Toys R Us in Denmark) so i've learned to listen when "The Curto" speaks.

But a guide on how to protect your stuff and perhaps a history lesson would be splented for us "non collectors" looking to get a foot in the door.

Although I am not a collector

I'm in the same situation. I only collect the books, but I'm trying to work up enough money to start a collection of other items.

I totally agree! If Dan were to do these things on his collecting-cast it would be a must-listen for me. Not like any Force-Cast episode wouldn't be a must-listen for me regardless.

I would also like to see ideas for displaying collections. Especially for those of us who are out of room. I always thought it would be cool to see a show like the ones on TLC where they decorate a room, but with Star Wars collections. Something really creative and different. You could even go around with professional decorators and redo a new room each week (I volunteer to be first! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

Maybe just spotlight people around the world and how they deal with limited space other than stacking them all up in a corner, or stuffing them in a closet.

I know the main focus will probably be on the Hasbro stuff, but it would be nice to hear news and rumors that only Curto has heard about the other license holders (Sideshow, LEGO, etc).

Cramer

I hope it provides news from Hasbro and other licensees that's a little more direct than the, what's now become useless, bi-weekly Q&A.
If there's a more timely way of reading "we can not comment" over and over, I'm all for it!

I always love it when Dan drops in the show, so whatever he has for us, I'm sure it'll be great. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is a fantastic idea, Shua, I'd love something like this. It really makes me sad to see all of my figs shut away in boxes in the dark, kinda like Woody's pals in Toy Story 2. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I think a Curto-Cast is a very cool idea, and it would be cool if there are more in the future. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I hope he'll either confirm or hint at future releases, but I'm not getting my hopes up. His apparent ties with Hasbro these days probably makes it difficult for him to spill things anymore. I mean, honestly, when was the last figure-related 411 report? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'd also like to know Curto's opinion on hoarders and scalpers. Those people ruin it for those of us who enjoy the store hunt.

Every single bit of info coming from Dan is always worth listening to. Can't wait for yet another great Force-cast in the works.

Looking forward to this show. Hope it comes soon.

I generally only listen to TFC when I read that Dan is going to be on it as it's really only the collecting news that I am interested in. I love SWAN for this reason. The prospect of a dedicated collecting pod cast from Dan has me hungry. I'll take more if I can get it and suspect that SWAN and Dan's casts will be offer quite unique perspectives on the hobby. The more the better I say and look forward to listening to both.

Any word on when we can expect the first episode?

do we know if this is the definitive name? "Commander Curto's Collecting Cast"? Also, I'd like some more time spent on the Star Wars Miniatures! We've got a new set coming out this month, and Jason and Pete haven't even mentioned it!

I'd love to have the show basically start with the beginning. Kind of like Jay's "Intro to the EU" segments and Microcasts. Then from there just moving forward include the Hasbro Q+A, rumours, answer questions, tips and tricks from veteran collectors for newbies, etc.

That would at least be a good place to begin with. I'm sure the show would naturally progress and evolve as well.

Should it be done on TalkShoe at first or would that be too much work for a new show?

I'm not into collecting either, but I never fail to visit toy shops wherever I go, to check on their SW aisle (which is sometimes reduced to one or two figures http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

What would interest me is interviews with people involved in the "hasbro type" figure creation process:
- how do they create molds
- do they start with the final scale, or a bigger figure
- do they have access to the actors biometrics ?
- how long is a mold reused (same head mould for several minor characters, but with different painting)
- how are they painted, are some parts processed by hand
- Why do some figures look so much like the actors, and others don't ?
- How many sculptors are there at hasbro for SW ?
etc ...

And the same kind of questions for Kotobukiya, Unleashed ...

There are so many things to cover ...

Oh ... and can I have that mini R/C R2 figure (http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/rc/8cd5/) for X-mas ???
Puh-leaaaase !!!

any new news on this? Maybe we could get our first episode in leau of our regular Force-Cast? Even just a short episode outlining what we can expect to hear. Come on Dan, give us anything here! haha.

Yes, dropping one during next week's break would be nice, but more importantly; it's a big shopping weekend, Hasbro collectables included. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Simple: The Force-Cast is just better. No disrespect to Arnie or Marjorie, but something about the Force-Cast strikes me as more listener-friendly, welcoming, and interesting. Plus, we definitely must have a cooler forum then they do! I mean, we've got the Jawas with their videos, Cramer with his webstrip, Falleen_Fan with his Sample Wars, and even that kid, umm, what's his name, you know, he's got that Four-Word Micro-Cast...

Ah, whatever, he's probably not very important anyway.

Dan's inside connections, primarily. They don't have a Curto.

I listened to the Collector-cast last night before going to sleep. Most excellent work, Dan! I'm not even expressly a collector, but I do love hearing about and seeing all the neat swag that's coming down the pike.

Keep up the excellent work, 'Commander Curto.' *salutes* http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll be tuning in for sure.

Just checked it out, and thought it was pretty good. That said, I do have a couple bits of constructive criticism. I personally didn't feel the overview of the TFU wave and Evo set was needed. Not only have we all seen pictures of this stuff before, but lots of us have seen them in stores already. So it just seemed a bit redundant to cover them in so much detail. I'm guessing this was a way to fill time?

Also, the editing needs a bit of work. Some parts sounded like an old Speed Racer cartoon, with the words all crammed together. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Look forward to the next one, and hopefully some more significant rumors!

*___*
04-03-2008, 03:34 PM
The idea was to feature an audio review of the action figures at the same time as the show launched. So you can listen to the review as you check out the photos simultaneously. It didn't QUITE work out as I'd hoped, because we didn't get the timing right on the release. Bummer...but what can you do? We'll try it again in the future...

As for the rest of the comments, thanks. Since this was MY first time doing this on my own, there are bound to be mistakes. But I'm determined to keep doing this and expanding into other areas. Yes, I'll be reporting on more than just Hasbro, although that will always be in the show, since the action figures are my main focus.

You want more rumors? Oh, I've got more rumors....not to worry! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif
