I couldn't find a thread discussing these specifically, so I thought I'd start one to pass on some news and ask a question.

I found this on another forum: The latest issue of ToyFare has a two page interview with Chuck from Diamond Select Toys. In it, he confirms Series 1 of the BSG figures will include Apollo, Chief Tyrol, and red dress Six (as shown at Toy Fair 2007), plus short pack "Hot Dog", black dress Six (Previews exclusive), Helo as an exclusive to Action Figure Xpress, and Sam Anders as an exclusive to Suncoast/FYE stores. They plan for these in August, with Series 2 before the end of the year.

Anyone else read this?

Wow, so much exclusives to begin with... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'll primary looking for Starbuck. The rest I decide along the way how much they appeal to me.

I hope the final versions are a heck of a lot better than the early versions shown at Toy Fair. (http://media.comics.ign.com/media/739/739383/img_4328847.html) :/

Either way, I'm much more looking forward to the Diamond Select Battlestar Galactica ships. Does the ToyFare issue mention anything about 'em? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm glad somebody could confirm this! Thanks Jedicat! The board on which I found it is notoriously full of "cheerleaders"; the type who will pass on their own wishful thinking as news, no matter how implausible the figures are. When I couldn't find that interview mentioned on any other board (even BSG boards), I thought it was another load of mularkey.

So let's get down to discussing these figures, shall we? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree, that's a lot of exclusives. Most of them shouldn't be too hard to get; just find an online store and order them, but I'm already shafted on that Anders. The nearest Suncoast is nearly two hours away, and the manager said there's no guarantee they'll get it. So I guess it's Ebay for me on that one. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anders, Helo, Apollo, and Tyrol are my most anticipated out of this series.

I actually think these don't look too bad, even the prototypes shown at Toy Fair. Six doesn't look a whole lot like Tricia Hefler, but she wasn't one of the ones I was excited about anyway. Either way, I do hope they improve her likeness. I am a little disappointed in how frakin' SKINNY (!) they made Tyrol. He just doesn't look right without the beer gut! Other than the weight loss, he looks pretty good. Apollo is a good likeness of Jamie Bamber, I just hope we eventually see a figure of him (and Helo) in the blue officers' uniforms.

I'm hoping we'll soon see images from DST of these three plus the Helo, Anders, and Hot Dog figures. Helo and Hot Dog will probably be in their flight suits, but I wonder about Anders? He was training to be a pilot when the season ended, so maybe the flight suit, but I can't remember seeing him in full gear. Unless they put him in the same fatigues as Tyrol. The only other costume he's worn has been the cargo pants and black muscle shirt, but I don't think they'd make a special sculpt for an exclusive like that.

Any thoughts?

Got a Sam Goody nearby? Suncoast and Sam Goody are both owned by Musicland, and so they often share "exclusives." I picked up the "Suncoast exclusive" Cylon Minimates at my local Sam Goody.

04-18-2007, 04:44 PM
No Suncoast in my area either, but that Suncoast wants an exclusive is a good sign for the health of this line. And I like the way that there are many characters released.

I'd bet that NewForceComics will buy an exclusive at some point (if they do not buy one in the first wave). They probably don't have as much cash as Suncoast, but they've funded many of Diamond's Star Trek exclusives.

The Suncoast and Sam Goody's have closed near me. I bet these will be available online, either in sets or not.
I have to get my Stargate figures online because no one out here carries them. I get them from timeandspacetoys.com, and here's hoping they will pick up the BSG figures too. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

All the Musicland/Sam Goody stores went out around me. There's one FYE near me still in operation There's one lone Suncoast store in the whole state of Indiana (two hours drive from me http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif ).

I went to the FYE and ended up talking to the manager. The only new figures they get are wrestling figures automatically sent to them for some reason (he said they aren't selling well). Anything else is sent to them as unsold stock from stores which closed. That would explain the battered Muppets and Christmas Story figures they were still trying to sell. My best bet would be Suncoast.

So that manager put me on to the manager of the Suncoast. Yeah, they carry the newer Star Trek, Stargate, and maybe even these BSG figures, but it's a coin toss on exclusives. Sometimes they get the exclusive merchandise, sometimes they don't. But with the price of gas, and running up a phone bill calling them, watching for a good deal on Ebay would probably do me better.

I'm pretty sure timeandspacetoys.com will carry them; they carry almost everything else DST puts out. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif They may even have an exclusive themselves for this line as they did with Stargate. Rick at New Force said on another forum he definitely PLANS on carrying BSG. I can imagine them having an exclusive too if they don't get too bogged down with Star Trek exclusives (I still want my movie uniform Dr. Crusher!) Anyone else picturing an exclusive Starbuck in flight suit figure from "Maelstrom" called "Kara Thrace and Her Special Destiny"? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I like the way they're releasing so many characters at once as well. I was a little sceptical when that rumour first started floating around after Toy Fair this year. I hope they keep it up!

Some retailers sell sets of the basic figures in a series and include the shortpack figures like Hot Dog in Series 1. If I find a place that does that for a good price, that's probably how I'll go, even though I wasn't really after the Six figure. Thing is, those sets probably won't include Helo and Anders.

JediCat- Does the interview mention anything about Chief Tyrol? Is he still supposed to be a Previews exclusive as well as the black dress Six, or is he part of the regular series now?

The article says that Chief will be a DST exclusive, which I guess means it will only be available on their website?
Or a mail-away figure? The article is not clear.

It also means he could be ANOTHER frakin' con exclusive! I hate those! Maybe he will end up on the DST store eventually like the NYCC LaForge.

I have a feeling we're going to see these a little later than August. The SG Atlantis figures are due out then and they've been up for what, about a month now? If BSG is coming then, surely they'd be up for pre-order by now. Pre-orders are starting to show up for figures coming out in October and November.

Or November, considering it's DST! I really wish they'd say what the deal is with Chief Tyrol. I want to know if he's a mail away or con figure, if I need to buy four of the others to get him.

By the way, I read your post over at action-figure.com, and I agree with you. DST is really fouling up not releasing updated photos and info on these figures. From what I've been reading on other boards, a lot of people are losing interest because of the lack of updates on BSG.

05-03-2007, 02:17 PM
Yeah that was me. I see that they have a new pic up now, thank goodness, of a new Six. It looks really good! I'd like to see more pics of the face, because I think they're still not quite there yet, but, it is an improvement I think.

Where's the Chief? Preorders at both Time & Space and BigBadToyStore seem to have forgotten he's part of the first wave.

BespinBoy
05-06-2007, 10:10 PM
The story is now (at least according to Chuck's ToyFare interview), the Chief is a "DST Exclusive". So if that means he's going to be a mail away figure like those in the Stargate lines or yet another frakin' convention exclusive is anyone's guess.

willbueche
05-07-2007, 12:38 AM
Hmm. In that case I'm going to give Rick at NewForceComics one more week to post preorders and if he doesn't, I guess I'll have to do BigBadToystore. I'd like to support Rick but time is ticking. UPDATE: I talked to Rick and DST hasn't given retailers info yet, so the stores that are offering are offering based on their best guesses. Sounds like there's plenty of time for NewForceComics to get on board. DST won't be running out, since they aren't allotting anything yet.

AmazingToys now has them up for pre-order as well, although AmazingToys has a steep no-cancellation policy: "Cancellations and/or changes on "Charge & Hold" items that have already been processed will incur a 25% restocking fee".

What's BigBadToys' policy?

BespinBoy
05-08-2007, 12:52 AM
Wow! That stinks about amazingtoyz! Half the time you have to wonder just where all that extra money is going. BBTS doesn't have any sort of cancellation policy, thankfully. If you pre-order something and no longer want it, you simply sign in to your account, view your pre-orders, change the amount to 0 on whatever item you want to cancel and hit "Update". I've had to use that feature several times myself.

I've heard nothing but good things about Rick and New Force. He also seems to be a really good guy. Same with BBTS and Joel. I've ordered off them several times in the past and had only good experiences, so I went with them out of loyalty. I also think that four pack is a good deal; it's basically "buy three, get one free".

I'm not sure why DST isn't giving the BSG figures the same amount of attention as the Stargate and Star Trek TWOK lines, but I know fans are getting antsy. So it's not surprising to me dealers are getting tired of waiting for the company to cough up some more info and pics and putting up pre-orders themselves. I think they've already lost any built in PR from the season finale and people seeing these at Toy Fair. Some have probably even forgotten these are coming out.

DiamondSelectToys has a product debut press release up with photos of Helo!

http://diamondselecttoys.com/article.asp?ai=41232

The good news: The blues (the blue uniform) looks great!

The bad news: I don't know who the heck that face is, but it doesn't look the slightest bit like Helo at all. I mean it is a totally different person, no resemblance at all. It appears to be just some generic man. I am really surprised, for I'd have thought the actors would have all agreed to have their faces used.

Here's a very good page for comparing the actor's facial skeletal structure to the figure's:

http://tahmohpenikett.blogspot.com/2007/05/first-look-at-helo-action-figure.html

The masthead image shows off his chin and cheekbones very well.

I got a reply from Chris at Diamond Select Toys:

"Will,

The image on our site is just a prototype and not final product.

We appreciate your feedback, and please let me know if you have any
questions.

Thanks,
Chris"

And ActionFigureXpress has replied as well:

"Hi Will

The sculpt is very well done. The picture resembles a very poor paint job and we should have updated pictures very soon. Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Action Figure Xpress (AFX)"

Heh heh. I've actually had that Tahmoh blog on my favorites for a while now. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Honestly, I thought the figure looked more like Adam Baldwin as Jayne from "Firefly" and "Serentiy". It just doesn't have Tahmoh's jawline and cheekbones, and the eyebrows are arched a little high. The body looks great, but the head is off. But hey, it's HELO, plus he's in blues; how often are we going to get a figure like that? Apollo and he are the two I'll gladly buy any version DST makes of them. I figured there wasn't anything wrong with that figure which couldn't be fixed by a little sanding and paint. Even still, it's good to know the final product will look better. Thanks Will! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now I just hope we'll get a Lee Adama in blues! If they do, I wonder if it will be a simple head swap, or will they pay attention to scale since Bamber is so much shorter than Penickett?

I don't know how I missed this, but if you sign up on the DiamondSelectToys website you can view their monthly website newsletter, Radical Confidential. This is different than the email newsletter. On page two of the current issue they write about the upcoming Galactica line.

An affirmation of how large each wave may well be, assuming retailers sign on for exclusives: "Two core figures and one chase figure are scheduled for each wave. With anywhere from one to three exclusive figures, this number could technically reach as high as seven!"

They also discuss the joints designed for the Galactica figures (and have accompanying photos): "Most figures in the line will sport a full twenty points of articulation including a new style of hip joins designed specifically for this release. From the pictures, you can see the full range of motion delivered by these joints while preserving the look and anatomy of the sculpt!"

So, these figs may be a bit more advanced than the Stargate figures. Though I suspect they'll drop the fancy joints almost immediately as a cost-cutting move.

It is worth a read, just to see Diamond finally standing up and saying something about this line. Excitement is building. I really hope they arrive on these shores earlier than later.

I'm more of a Starbuck fan myself (sometimes Starbuck's cigar is just a cigar, heh heh).

I saw on BTVSFigs.proboards48.com that Sam Anders is now a BigBadToyStore.com exclusive, not that obscure Suncoast store anymore.

And...it is up for preorder. I *almost* bought it but I'm going to skip this one since it doesn't really say "Galactica" to me. It more says "I have taken the Hulk's arms and painted them beige". But I wonder if it might come with some accessory that I'll regret not having.

Diamond's site is teasing us that the Chief will go on pre-order in the "near future". I don't want to miss that one, so if you notice it, sound the alert! Draidis Contact!

Heh heh, I got you on Starbuck's cigar. I've never seen a woman smoke a cigar quite... that... way... before.

Anyway, I was on BBTS late this afternoon and they hadn't updated it, so you got one up on me. Needless to say, I cancelled my pre-order for the set of five and went with the set of six! Now I need to cancel my AFX Helo pre-order.

I like the Anders. He's a bit bull necked, but otherwise okay. I even like the costume they chose for him. I'm certainly glad BBTS took him as an exclusive!

Yes, I certainly will keep an eye out for the Tyrol pre-order. Something tells me that pre-order is going to happen sooner instead of later. At least we don't seem to need the POPs from all the figures to get him.

Found on BattlestarBlog: some hints as to who else to expect in the next waves: Quote begins:

There was an article with the Diamond Select Toys director about that. Hang on, let me go find it ....

---------------------------------------
TOYFARE: How did you guys decide which characters to roll out in each wave?

CHUCK TERCEIRA: As you can imagine, that was the hardest part. With a cast this deep, we went back and forth several times. But the way it started to come together was when we made a list of the top 10 characters we thought we had to do, and then looked at it like three waves rather than one at a time.

TOYFARE: Top 10- must-do characters, huh? Okay, if the first three are Six, Apollo and Chief, can I guess at the other seven? I'm gonna say Commander Adama, Starbuck, Boomer, a robo-Cylon, President Roslin, Col. Tigh and Helo.

CHUCK TERCEIRA: Not bad....Five out of seven of them are in the first three waves.

quote ends.

BespinBoy
05-19-2007, 09:08 PM
That's from the infamous ToyFare interview! Wizard finally posted it on their site. A couple other good remarks:

"TOYFARE: Are there any characters who are too obscure or whose parts were too small to ever have a figure made?

CHUCK TERCEIRA: We never say never at DST, but of course we're not going to get to every character in a cast this deep. Plus, the show keeps adding and dropping characters faster than we can plan the lines."

"TOYFARE: The exclusives in this line seem to be mostly different characters, as opposed to character variations like we've seen in the Buffy line. How did you decide to do it this way? Are character variations a possibility down the line?

CHUCK TERCEIRA: Yes. That was Robert at Art Asylum's idea. We're still going to do the variants of the main characters- they'll just be spaced out better. You won't get something like seven Starbucks in one wave. We're also using the short-pack and some of the exclusives to round out the line with new characters that might not be part of the title credits but fans of the show will really want and are a big part of the story."

You can read the whole article here:

http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/toyfare/004492399.cfm web page (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/toyfare/004492399.cfm)

So I guess that means we will eventually see blues variants of Lee, Kara, and Sharon? We already have Karl. For some reason, I want the blue uniforms more than the flightsuits. Honestly, I could care less if DST makes any of them in the undershirts. My guess is Hot Dog will also be in the flightsuit.

I also wonder if DST is going to keep the BSG figures in scale with each other according to the actors' real heigths, or just make them all the same?

The above post was mine, I just wasn't signed in. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

By the way, it seems these figures now have a release date of October 31.

I was thinking about what was said in the ToyFare interview about the "top ten must make figures", and the list of seven characters the interviewer mentioned, to which Chuck replied, "Not bad. 5 out of the 7 are in the first 3 waves."

The list of 7 was: Adama, Starbuck, Boomer, Toaster Cylon, Roslin, Tigh, and Helo.

This is my guess on the "top ten" list, as far as the first 3 waves are concerned, using the above list:
1.Apollo
2.Six
3.Chief
4.Helo (was on the list of 7, but now a given)
5.Adama
6.Boomer or Athena
7.Roslin
8.Tigh
9.Baltar
10.I don't know, Felix Gaetta? *shrugs*

Here's why I didn't include Starbuck and the Toaster. It goes without saying these two would be in the top ten must makes for the series, but this why I think we won't see them just yet:

Starbuck- While trying to avoid spoilers for those who haven't seen Season 3, I'll just say I'd be very surprised to see any Starbucks till after Season 4 begins, for plot purposes. DST seems to want to keep the figures current with the show, plus, it would make sense to build anticipation for her. I hope I didn't spoil anything for anybody.

Toaster-The sculpting studio said they had been busy trying to get BSG Series 1 ready as well as Stargate and the Alex Ross "Flash Gordon" figures. I can imagine they'll want to take their time and do this figure right. Apart from that, there was the Majestic Studios figure released recently. Did the Titanium figure get released?

Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Please don't flame me for them.

Yeah, I think we can confirm that Jean St. Jean is probably not someone who had watched the show before he was hired to sculpt. Seems like he's been going by photos rather than video.

I'd come to this conclusion when I saw the Helo sculpt. Here is the promo photo of Helo that St. Jean probably used as a guide -- the one photo in which his hairline looks completely different than it looks in any episode, the one photo in which his hairline appears to be straight across (which is the way St. Jean then sculpted it, even though it ain't right):

Latest word on the Chief is that he will be a con-exclusive figure, which may or may not be available afterwards to the websites and DST itself. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Timeandspacetoys is offering the set of 6 figures minus the Chief for $74.99. You can get the Chief for free if you order a $100.00 gift certificate! Which can then be applied to the set of 6 pre-order.

I'll buy the Chief from NewForceComics.com, then. They usually manage to get a few of the Con figures.

At the New Force site, look under the drop-down menu for "Misc" figures, that is where they have the Galactica figures including the Chief listed for now. They say they will make a dedicated link to the Galactica stuff soon but for now that is where you can find the preorder for him.

Say, where'd you hear they were doing the show exclusive (boo!) route for the Chief?

I had a feeling they were going to pull the "con" job on this one, but I hoped I was wrong.

I forget where I saw the link, but it led to the St.Jean's blog, where he said he had only used posed photos and video references. Which would explain why some of the figures look as though they've been sculpted from grainy screencaps. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That wouldn't be a bad thing at all! Maybe he could learn some more about the characters he's sculpting while he's at it. Helo never has that death like scowl on his face. And Chief should have his beer belly, dangit! He's a hardworkin' man who goes out and has a few after work (or after a fight with Cally). His figure should reflect that! Granted Aaron Douglas looked like a skinny young kid when the show first came on, but that's not how he looks now (an improvement IMO http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif). But you know how EVERYBODY'S supposed to have a perfect body nowadays... *sighs and rolls eyes*

Good fun. I remember when they'd been hoping to sell the first batch at ComicCon, but, whatever, I'll still be a fan come 2008. Wait, do you mean the first wave is early 2008 or the second wave is 2008?

I went over to that forum (the public part of it anyway) and it was great to see there's other fans there hoping for these figs to be shaped up. I learned there that the infamous Jean St Jean, who normally gets praise, is also the guy responsible for the wonky-looking Serenity figures (which I thought weren't half bad, even if they weren't all good).

C'mon ComicCon, surprise us with some good news and good sculpts... We could all use a pleasant surprise.

Okay guys, the new DST E-Spectrum just showed up in my inbox with hints to the BSG Series 2 lineup! Here are the hints:

1. A Cylon
2. A Drug runner
3. A Cylon-lover
4. A Prophet
The next three are exclusives:
5. A Wife
6. A Witch
7. A Wingman

Hmmm... here are my guesses (with what I've seen in Seasons 1&3; haven't watched 2 yet) SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN SEASON 3!:
1. A Centurion, Col. Tigh, or Boomer/Athena in some form
2. Kat in flightsuit
3. Helo in flightsuit, Starbuck in some form, or Baltar
4. I have no guess; who's a prophet? Leoben?
5. Athena variant, Cally, Tigh's wife, or maybe a Starbuck variant?
6. A Witch? Again, no guess.
7. Crashdown, Nachero, or Helo in flighsuit if he's not #3.

So let the speculation begin!

Btw, Will, I wouldn't bother becoming a member over at that other forum. They have their dozen or so "Chosen One" members and that's all they want. I once posted my same concerns over these BSG figures there and got flamed for my troubles. However, two days later, one of "The Chosen" posted the same views as mine nearly verbatim and was greeted with "Oh, I totally agree with you" by the same guy who flamed me. It's not just me; there were four or five others who posted and were ignored or flamed till they didn't return. I used to post regularly there, but now choose not to; I just go for the info.

1. Number Three
2. Kat
3. Baltar
4. Roslin
5. Ellen
6. Another Apollo? Jaime Bamber's first role was the Wicked Witch of the West in a children's production of The Wizard of Oz, so...yeah. ...No, I'll guess Admiral Cain. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
7. Boomer

I just can't guess. There's too much info there that appears to require having seen season 3.

Oh, but wait, A Witch must be the commander of the Pegasus.

I am hoping A Wife means Cally, but I understand there's a whole lot of couples in Season 3 so who knows.

I think due to the possibility that I'll deduce who is who, and what that means about what happens in season 3, that I'm going to have to avoid this thread until ComicCon, when I will return to [censored] about bad sculpts (or not, hopefully). See ya in the Titanium section. And thanks BespinBoy for the tip about not joining that other forum.

From what I understand, those are going to be available on the hasbrotoyshop.com website during the con July 26-29, similar to how they did the McLuke during CIV. That's how I plan to get mine! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm also going to update my Series 2 guesses, after reading some of those here and having watched most of Season 2:

1. A Cylon- Sharon Agathon
2. A Drugrunner- Kat (also probably the short pack)
3. A Cylon-lover- Baltar or Helo in flightsuit
4. A Prophet- Laura Roslin
5. A Wife- Cally
6. A Witch- Heh heh, a Jamie Bamber as The Wicked Witch of the West would be a riot, but I'll have to guess Adm. Cain too. That would be perfect considering she's being brought back from the dead for the "Razor" two-parter.
7. A Wingman- I still say Crashdown or Helo in flightsuit if he's not #3.

Um, I'm not sure what happened, but the Chief pre-order has disappeared from the NewForce site. It's not showing up under the new, dedicated BSG link. A search for him gets a "sold out" message. Maybe we should have ordered directly from DST afterall.

Glad to see you're back! I'm pretty happy with my guess list too; had to do some rethinking on it. DST probably isn't going to bring some of the Season 3 story into the figures just yet.

Back on the Tyrol situation: I also checked on Time&Space Toys, which was doing a free Tyrol with the purchase of a $100 gift certificate deal. They've now taken down their pre-order as well and replaced it with "check back for details on how to order this figure". So now I'm really confused. Battlestar Galactica Series 2 Revealed!

DST is excited to announce the all-star follow-up Battlestar Galactica Series 2 action figure assortment will be arriving in stores in early 2008! Reimagined by Ron Moore, Battlestar Galactica tells the story of the last survivors of mankind and their quest to escape the murderous Cylons while searching for the mythical 13th Colony, Earth.

Hinted last month to include a Cylon, a drug runner, a Cylon-lover and a prophet, we can now reveal the official lineup – the devastating Cylon Centurion, Louanne “Kat” Katraine, Kara “Starbuck” Thrace and the eternally-conflicted Helo in dress blues!

Battlestar Galactica premiered as a mini-series in 2003 to rave reviews from both critics and fans of the classic property, setting viewership records for the SciFi Channel. Leaving much of traditional science fiction behind, the new Battlestar Galactica instead focused on character-driven conflicts and the series’ epic storytelling style as viewers followed the triumphs and hardships of the Colonial Fleet. Having received the prestigious American Film Institute’s honorific “TV Program of the Year” for the second consecutive year, the stellar drama returns to the SciFi Channel on January 21st in a new timeslot; Sunday evenings at 10:00 pm EST.

Look for images of this hit action figure release and the upcoming Series 2 exclusive figures as this summer’s San Diego Comic Con approaches! Also sculpted by the incredibly talented Jean St. Jean Studios, the first series of action figures featuring Lee “Apollo” Adama, Six and Hotdog is continuing development as the September release date approaches. In addition, the DST Exclusive Chief Tyrol figure can now be pre-ordered by clicking here!

Thanks for posting that Will!

Frak, was I way off on some of my guesses! I'm surprised to see a Centurion so soon, but glad. Kat was kind of a given since she's the only known drug-runner on the show. Kara as a "cylon-lover"; that's a Season 3 spoiler right there. I thought for sure it would be Helo considering he's been referred to as such several times. My guess is Kara will be in her flightsuit since Kat is also in there. But Helo as a "prophet"? I'm not sure where they get that. I'm also confused about "in dress blues"; I thought the AFX exclusive figure was in dress blues? Unless they re-release the same figure just with that sash around him.

Not yet named are the Wife, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...I mean Wingman.

LOL! Funny! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif Now that they've announced the basic lineup, I'm rethinking about those exclusives. I'm pretty sure the Witch will be Cain, but maybe the Wife will be Kara in blues, with the head from the basic figure and Cain's body? The Wingman, I guess I'll stick with my original guess of either Crashdown or flightsuit Helo.

Thanks again!

I figure Starbuck is the prophet, since she retrieved the Arrow of Apollo... not exactly speaking a prophecy, but living it. Then again they all are, so maybe not.

Your theories are all sensible. The wingman could also be Apollo, I suppose, in Helo's blues. Helo's Blues...I just thought of a good name for an album.

My thoughts exactly. Either it's going to be a re-release just with that sash they wear for ceremonies added (which would be kind of silly IMO), or it's some misinformation and Helo is in his flightsuit. Could be anything with DST http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif They did switch the ids as far as "prophet" and "Cylon-lover". My guess is he's either in flightsuit since that's what he was in on Occucpied Caprica with Sharon, or they'll really throw us for a loop and put him in the Chief's fatigues. (Gods, I hope not on that last one!) I'm also hoping Will's right with The Wingman being Lee in blues (saves me from buying extra figures for a headswap), but still could be any guy in a flightsuit.

"Chuckles! Chuckles bought it! Aiiieeee!"

LOL! That would be kind of wierd if DST went through and made every named pilot on the show, dead or alive. It could be called the "So Say We All Memorial Series".

I was thinking, The Wife could be Cally, Dee, or since we're getting Helo as a "Cylon-lover", perhaps The Wife is some version of Sharon. Also, with Kara designated as "A Prophet", my guess is she'll be in flightgear and have the Arrow of Apollo in the black storage tube as an accessory.

Anyway, I'm now sure the "Helo in dress blues" written in the DST site article is a misnomer as well as having the Ids for Kara and Karl switched. The article mentions BSG returns "in a new time slot, Sunday, January 21, at 10 p.m." First, January 21, 2008 is a Monday, and BSG moved to 10 p.m. on Sunday, January 21 of this year! So, yeah, definitely a few wrong statements in that release. Can DST get anything right? I can't wait for SDCC to find everything out for certain!

Well, after checking every one of my usual haunts for pics and info from SDCC on Series 2 of BSG figures, I finally found them! (And I also found why no one else had anything; there are big "No Photography" signs next to the figures.) Anyway, it seems DST put quite a bit of misinfo in that article on their website, and there are a lot of misnomers in the Wizard Universe article linked below as well http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif The figures on display are:

Starbuck in flightsuit
Helo in flightsuit (instead of the dress blues from the DST article)
Athena in casual clothes
Admiral Cain (Toyfare exclusive)
Kat in flightsuit
Dee in fatigues
and D'Anna Biers in white (Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly didn't see that one coming!)

Yay that was me with the "arg he lost an eye?" comment -- I am going to be a pain in the [censored] about spoilers for a couple more months until the DVDs come out. I know, I am annoying. But I've transitioned to the concept that the release of a show is when it is on DVD, not when it is previewed on cable.

About the figures: STARBUCK does indeed LOOK GREAT! Her and Dualla both look like themselves (though Dualla's body is far more petite in real life)! The chances of them getting my favorite character's face right were so small, I feel like I and other Starbuck fans have truly lucked out! And REALLY DIGGING the unzipped flightsuit. Perfect attitude for her.

The rest look like...well, they look like cosplay version of the characters. Not terrible, just not brilliant like Starbuck.

Darn I can't believe we don't even have wave one in our hands yet! I want them now!

BespinBoy
07-28-2007, 01:03 AM
Starbuck DOES look great! Maybe that's why she's the first pic you see? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif Can you imagine the he** that would have broken loose if everyone's favorite character and the star of the show hadn't looked good? Happy to see they did her justice and I really like the new unzipped flightsuits as opposed to the closed up suits from series 1. Nice touch on being able to see Kara's dog tags! Kinda peeved Lee is coming with the closed up suit. Hmmm, buy an extra Series 2 Helo and do a quick custom maybe?

The rest? Meh. Helo's the same head from Series 1, whatayagonnado? Kat's not too bad, just a little freaky seeing just her head on a pedestal. Cain looks strange; I can't put my finger on it. D'Anna looks good, but doubt if I get her. Dee's an easy pass 'cause I'm just not a fan.

The one I'm the most disappointed with is Athena. I was really hoping for her head likeness to be the same as the bust pictured on the same page (ponytail with bangs, plus the bust has a better facial resemblance), and in either blues or flightsuit. That's Sharon Agathon to me. That head doesn't look like Grace Park much at all, face or hair. Come on; she's cute! I can't place that outfit either. I'm not sure if it's one of her copies, or her outift from New Caprica http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'll probably end up just getting Starbuck and Helo. Series 1 can't get here fast enough!

I didn't even notice they made a second male flight suit, this time with unziped top. That is great! They also seem to have fixed the "short legs" problem the original male flight suit had. Bear in mind only the zipped up flight suit can wear the helmet though, so imo there's room for both kinds.

I guess there's no point being disapointed that Diamond hasn't gotten in production samples of wave one yet. By that I mean it looks like those are still the wave one prototypes elsewhere on their table. It looks like they may have tried again on Six's head on the Caprica Six model, it looks even less like Tricia Helfer now. But at this point I've given up on the sculpts on wave one, so, no matter.
http://sdcc.figures.com/showgallery.php?cat=620

I do like that they've added the tattoo to the space soccer dude's arm. Almost enough of a reason to add him to my order. And increases the chances they'll eventually pay similar attention to any sleeveless Starbuck that they may make.

First glimpse of the production Six figure, albeit in unpainted form ("T1" I guess means unpainted) reveals the articulation of the shoulders, elbows, and wrists -- and also that the fixed the misalignment of the top and bottom halves of the figure. The resolution is too low to tell how the face is:

If Diamond's 10/31/2007 release date is to be believed, we're getting real close to when it'll be time to clear some freaking shelf space to display these puppies.

I am sad that the minimates' selection and numbers have been so much more diverse and numerous, not to mention available. I really want Cally and the Chief in their orange jumpsuits to add some color to the regular action figure line. And Gaius in rumpled clothing (for as Adam Ant said, "good [censored] rumples the clothing", and Gauis is quite a cad), and maybe even that late priest lady in her robes, holding up an ancient text, to add some religious dimension.

Heh heh, to be honest with you, not good. I can't speak for the Stargate figures as I don't collect those lines, but as a Star Trek collector, I can tell you this: Series 4 of The Next Generation (the set with Dr. Beverly Crusher) was supposed to be out in February of this year, but didn't show up till the end of August.

Yep, eight months ago, so we really have been waiting a long time for these. I really hope DST's more on the ball with these! Back to the TNG figures I mentioned, they were unveiled in August of 2006 at one of the cons, so that's a whole year before final release!

In just two series, they've made all but four of the BSG figures on my want list: Lee Adama in blue officer's uniform; Admiral Adama; Laura Roslin; and Athena in flight gear (hopefully with a better head than the Series 2 Boomer!) Those are the four I'm really looking forward to being announced.

Another update, and it doesn't sound good. From another forum's Q&A with Chuck from DST:

"Any chance you could show off what the packaging for the [BSG] figures looks like?
DSTChuck: We've done the basic design but we don't have a sample back from the factory when we do I expect marketing will drop in on the MYSPACE page."

This Q&A took place this week and was posted on October 18. If they're still waiting on the packaging to be produced at this time, sounds like these figures will be a little later than November even! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

BespinBoy
10-25-2007, 12:14 AM
It's a definite possibility. Here's what happened with the Star Trek: The Next Generation figures:

Series 1- Original Release Date was October 2005; eventual release in April 2006, six months later.

Series 2- ORD was August 2006, and released in August 2006, go figure.

Series 3- ORD was November 2006; eventual release in January 2007, two months later.

Series 4- ORD was February 2007; eventual release in August 2007, six months later.

Series 5 is supposed to come out in January 2008. How much you want to bet it will be more like July? The DS9 figures have already been delayed twice. So I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing happen with BSG. The way this pattern goes, it may be April 2008 before we see Series 1. I hope I'm wrong though. As long as they eventually come out, I don't mind the delays. Gives me a chance to buy some other things then save the money for them again.

http://www.figures.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=6932

jeez... um... wow. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have to admit, for as excited as I was about these figures, now, after seeing them in Michael Crawford's review, I'm just as disappointed. For as good as this show is, why do all the figures from it look like crud? The 12" Lee from Majestic looks nothing like him, and why does this figure from DST bare more of a resemblance to Mickey Mouse than Jamie Bamber? I'm serious; put a dob of black paint on the end of that nose and a big ol' pair of mouse ears on him and it's M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E. The shape of his head, the way his hair is sculpted, the odd shape of his nose, and those large staring eyes just doesn't look like the character it portrays.

The Six's don't resemble Patricia Helfer either. A friend of mine thought the Chief Tyrol figure was supposed to be Danny Pino from "Cold Case". I don't know who the Sam Anders figure is of, but it's not Michael Trucco. I know alot of people thought the prototypes shown at Toy Fair this year didn't look good, but I think they looked much better than the production versions in the Crawford review.

I've already watched "Razor" twice, and I'm working on the third time as I write this. It reminded of everything I like about BSG; the story, the writing, and the acting. I dearly love the show, and I'll continue to watch it religiously, but if this is the kind of merchandise coming from it, I seriously doubt if I'll collect anything.

Of course this is all just my opinion, and I'll probably get flamed or ignored for it, but oh well...

willbueche
11-25-2007, 07:46 PM
Heck no, you're not going to get flamed for stating the truth about the head sculpts. These faces only look slightly like the characters. Apollo looks like a miniseries promo photo, but not like he looked since then.

But the suits look great and they haven't skimped on the paint applications -- assuming the figures Michael Crawford got are actual production figures and not something specially made.

dodgy80
11-26-2007, 01:25 AM
while i agree that they don't look spot on (and apollo looks the worst) i'm still excited to get them. i really like the articulation, the helmets and the pistols/holsters. series two looks much better so maybe by the time they get around to my favorite characters they will be perfect.

BespinBoy
11-27-2007, 01:16 AM
The four I was looking forward to the most were Lee in blue officer's uniform, Chief Tyrol, Admiral Adama, and my most favorite character, Laura Roslin. Lee and Chief are a bust (since they'll re-use the same head on Lee), The Old Man is a 50/50 either way; could look great, could be terrible, but I'm really fearful of what the President Roslin figure could look like. I'm already having nightmares http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Michael Crawford now has his review up for the BSG Series 1 exclusives.
web page (http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_120507a.htm)

Now, I have to say that Tyrol looks better than anything we've seen so far and gives me new hope, but Anders is still a lost cause (who the FRAK is that sculpt of anyway? Not the actor, that's for sure). Michael Crawford doesn't think Helo is a very good likeness, but I think he's spot on. Penikett is a bit of a "pretty boy" anyway. Still not geting him though.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

12-05-2007, 11:03 PM
Didn't the actor who plays the Chief get his head scanned? So that's the explanation for his sculpt being good. I hope that figure's clothes aren't really that glossy though -- it looks like the uniform is wet! Maybe in less sharp lighting it won't look so glossy.

BespinBoy
12-06-2007, 01:41 AM
I'd heard that too, but if he did have it scanned, it would've had to have been quite a while ago. The figure has his appearance from around Season 2, as by Season 3, Aaron Douglas had blown up like a balloon, both his face and his body. Check out the "Eye of Jupiter" episode. Another poster put up some comparison pics over on page 2 of this thread. They show the similarities between the DST figure and an early promo pic of Aaron as Tyrol.

As for the glossy uniform, maybe these figures have the same problem as Series 3 of The Next Generation. Those figures had a gloss on them as well, but it turned out to be a lubricant for the joints applied at the factory. The problem was solved by giving them a bath in Dawn dish soap! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

willbueche
12-08-2007, 07:14 PM
That could be. I noticed that DST bought a one-page color ad in the current issue of Geek magazine promoting these figures. Actually it mainly promotes the Tyrol figure with a huge pic, and then in smaller size it presents some of the rest of the figures. Nothing special to see, but nice that they spent a few dollars on an ad.

I got my Chief (the only figure I'm buying from Series 1) on Christmas Eve no less. His sculpt does look much better in person, and mine actually had a great paint job! Yes, all but Anders. And I just placed an order for the Wave 2 figs that we know about so far, even though they aren't really due in January.

Has anyone else tried to put the helmets on? The report that they are really close fitting has me worried. I may get an extra to avoid damage.

Update: to put the helmets on the figures, not on one's self.

dodgy80
01-26-2008, 02:05 PM
Yeah, I have them all (including Anders) and I love them. The helmet is really easy to get on and off of Apollo without any fear of damage. However, Hot Dog's head is quite a bit larger and is more difficult to get on. I thought about getting another one because I love the fact that they have these helmets and they look great on them. So, when do you think series two will actually be out.

02-01-2008, 11:58 AM
Did anyone else have a problem swapping hands on Hot Dog or Apollo? It was a tight fit and the plastic ball joints nearly broke off. Use alot of finesse or don't swap hands is my recommendation. Otherwise the figs are awsome, face sclupt on Six could be better though.

Who's the redhead supposed to be? Edit: Gina? WTF?!

Why can't DST get the likenesses right? Kendra Shaw barely looks like Jacobson, Caprica Boomer is way off and Cain doesn't look like Forbes either. Fortunately, Starbuck looks very good.

I thought the redhead was either a young version of Col. Tigh's drunken wife, or possibly a character from Razor. Are you sure it is meant to be one of the Sixes? Looks nothing like her!

I did find T1 SDCC Exclusive versions of Six and the Chief also. Were there any others, or just those two?

And on a side note, where is Boomer/Sharon? Or Baltar for that matter. Why make the Razor figures first? Oh well, this line better not die. I need them all. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, I forgot about the unpainted Chief and Six. As for Boomer, there was supposed to be a two pack of her and D'eanna Biers DST showed as an exclusive several times, including this year's Toy Fair, but no retailer took them as an exclusive, so who knows what the status is on those. Biers wasn't too bad, but Boomer hardly resembled Grace Park at all. If you dig around Cool Toy Review's Toy Fair coverage, you can see pics of them along with Dualla which hasn't been picked up either.

I agree with you on the Razor figures. I guess their strategy is strike while the iron's hot. I know a lot of BSG fans want a retro style cylon figure, but I didn't think Razor was received well enough to warrant its own series of figures. I know I wouldn't plunk down $15 to add Kendra Shaw to my collection. I'd rather have seen them do Roslin, Admiral Adama, Tigh, and Baltar before the Razor figures. Get the hardcore main characters out before the show ends, spread out over two or three waves as anchors with other characters like Athena, Biers, Dualla, Gaetta, or variants of Lee or Kara and maybe some Razor characters to fill the waves out to four figures. Personally, there are some characters I couldn't care less about getting figures of like some of the Cylon models and secondary or Razor characters, but I know they'll probably be made before say, President Roslin. I don't understand what this love affair is DST seems to have with Helo either: Blue uniform in Series 1, Flightsuit in Series 2, a bust... what's next? Helo in The Chief's green fatigues for Series 4? As you say VadersClone, this line better not die before we get them all!

To be completely honest, in the sprit of getting the main characters out before the show ends or soon after, I'd like to see them ditch that Sharon altogether since no one seems to be interested in it as an exclusive. Replace her with an Athena Sharon in flightsuit with her hair pulled back in a ponytail and bangs. DST could add a Hera fig as an accessory.

Not an action figure, but well worth everyone's attention: Cinequest has a model Cylon Raider (new series) spaceship up for pre-sale. 8 inches long, looks just as good as the $200 resin thing AA is selling, but only $30. Unclear on whether it is pre-painted or not, but I'll take the risk. This will look great displayed with the action figures. I hope they follow with a colonial vessel or two!

Announcement for Wave 4:

Included in the core assortment will be Admiral William Adama in his blue duty uniform, President Laura Roslin and the limited President Lee Adama. Each case will include at least one full set of figures as well as an incentive "case-topper" action figure not available anywhere else -- the fan-favorite Admiral Adama with mustache figure! The exclusive Admiral Helena Cain action figure will feature the former Pegasus commander as she appeared in both the series and the Razor movie and will be available as a Diamond Previews exclusive.

Look for the just-released [sic - not so!] Series 2 figures in stores now [sic - maybe August!] to add Starbuck, Kat, Helo and the menacing Cylon Centurion to your collection along with the DST exclusive Chief Tyrol! Also sculpted by the incredibly talented [sic - pretty good!] Jean St. Jean Studios, each figure in this line of Battlestar Galactica figures stands seven inches tall and includes multiple accessories and 25 points of articulation!

Look for images to be added soon directly from the San Diego Convention Center!

---
Apparently Wave 3 (whatever happened to Wave 3?) is comprised of what were originally intended to be retailer exclusives for Wave 2 (the Lee & Dee 2-pack, and the Boomer and D'Anna 2-pack) and the tv-movie "Razor" figures (the retro Cylon Centurian, Gina Invier, Young Adama, and that Kendra Shaw character).

So essentially, after Wave 4, major characters to be made include Gaius Baltar, Admiral Tigh, and Tom Zarek. Fan favorites remaining to be made include Calley, Felix Gaeta, Doctor Cottle, and, well take your pick since there are so many characters that various fans dig, not to mention many costume changes.

I got a pre-shipping notice for the Valley of Darkness (bloody) Cylon from BBTS. Only a matter of weeks now before the rest of wave 2 arrives in stores. The Art Asylum blog said half made it out on one boat, but the second half is on another boat that hasn't arrived yet.

The guys at the DST booth at SDCC were selling Wave 2 (cylon, kat and starbuck) for $48 a set on Fri and Sat only, then decided to sell them individually for $16 each. Cylon and Starbuck sold out. This wave looks great....more detail and accessories!

They said they air shipped the figs from overseas to have them for SDCC but the rest are on the boat for all the distributors. Should be a couple of weeks. The exclusive Helo was NOT for sale....already on the boat!

The bloody cylon sold out at the DST booth by Thursday but the toyrocket.com booth still had their allotment for sale by close on Sunday.

Wave 3 pushed all the way to DECEMBER they said, with wave 4 soon after in January for when the show is back on. The 2 packs still on schedule, reportedly.

They showed Adama and Roslin as well as a HOT Sharon. They are not sure where the Sharon will be added.

Bodie Olmos aka Hot Dog was signing proof cards of his figure. When I asked what they were for, DST mentioned some kind of exclusive they were working on.

Hope this helps, but don't hold me to ANY of the info as DST changes their mind so frequently, unfortunately!

Geez, what'd I do, kill the thread? If anyone cares, DST has now changed the release dates for BSG Series 3, and the Lee & Dee two pack to 10/29/08. Strange thing is, if you examin the cards next to the figures at SDCC, they say December 08 for Series 3 and Spring 09 for the two packs. According to the Previews revised ship dates list, Series 2 is supposed to ship 8/27/08.

I'm still a devoted fan of these figures, the problem seems to be that the figures are delayed beyond all reason. It has been a year or so and we're only getting to wave 2 now? Terrible management.

I have received some cylons so far.

"Downloaded" Cylon with the two-tone paint job is my favorite, but bear in mind it only comes bagged --- since it was originally just a promo -- and without extra hands (and is expensive, and only available from shopafx.com). UPDATE I THINK THEY'RE SOLD OUT NOW, CANT FIND IT ANYMORE.

My second favorite is the bloody "Valley of Darkness" Cylon. And I have not yet received wave 2 but I presume the regular Cylon in wave 2 will be my third favorite.

I have indeed bought an army. Or at least enough Cylons to stand on all sides of the human figures when I finally GET enough human figures to set them up.

I am interested to see if the Kat figure and the Kara figure use the same body. All the photos show the Kat figure as substantially shorter than Kara, but that might just be a bit of creative license in the photoshop composition.

It has been too darn long waiting on wave 2. DST has to get their act together. Figures are expensive when you're buying a set, and being uncertain what month (or year!) one's credit card is finally going to get processed for these is a real hassle. Plus, it just makes it hard to enjoy the figures when they aren't here.

Folks, be careful with your Cylon elbows. I got a Cylon today at Hastings and after getting it out of all the annoying twisty ties, the left elbow broke as soon as I bent it. It looked so solidly built that I had no reason to suspect that it would break on me. Planning on going back later today to swap it for the other Cylon they had.

I love the TV show but have not been crazy about the likeness so this is the first figure from this line that I have gotten.

Holy Christ there's another Cylon Centurian variant available - New Caprica Cylon:

http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/aa83/

"these New Caprica Cylons are even meaner - you can tell by their darker color scheme. The darker color separates them from their less meaner (but still pretty ornery) cousins. It also makes this one awesome ThinkGeek exclusive action figure if you're trying to collect them all."

http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/zoom/aa83_new_caprica_cylon_figure.jpg

I like the weathering. It adds realism. In fact the added realism pushes the regular Cylons even further down the scale of desirability.

For those keeping a count, here's what's been available so far:

Cylon Centurian - regular version (plain grey plastic, cheap looking);

Valley of Darkness Cylon - blood spattered, and a bloody handprint as if someone tried to push it away;

Downloaded Cylon - shiny aluminum looking Cylon, very attractive, two-tones of metal (the best!)(sold out!);

New Caprica Cylon - dark weathered look, very realistic. (Available now!)

An update on the New Caprica Cylon:

The weathering is all but invisible. Although the photos show some brownish air brushing of grime, this is not actually present on the figure.

The main difference on the New Caprica Cylon (compared to the regular Cylon) is that the center belly column is painted black, the biceps are painted black, and the mouth grill is painted black. The paint looks kind of sprayed on. I think it would have worked better if the paint had been a dark, dark gray rather than black, but, it is still an acceptable exclusive.

I've received the Civil War Cylon from ToysRUs and, being somewhat of an expert on these Cylons on account of owning enough to carry me away if they came to life, my assessment of the Civil War Cylon is this:

The Civil War Cylon has a paint scheme that provides it with a blackened weathered finish, like its been working in a coal mine. There is no battle damage per se -- perhaps the Action Figure Express "Battle Damaged Cylon two-pack" will indeed be unique -- but rather an exceptionally dirty, sooty finish.

It stands in marked contrast to all the other Cylons. Even my housemate liked it.

I hereby dub it the Pig-Pen Cylon.

Anyone know of any other options for the TRU exclusives, other than Ebay, or TRU Online. (they won't ship Overseas)

I have to have these two, and it's driving me nuts just trying to find someone to sell the dang things to me!

As promised, here's a handy guide to the variant Cylon Centurions (and a couple of RAZOR Cylons as well) from DST's Battlestar Galactica toy line:

I'll be attempting to track them all down, although the SDCC variants may be a challenge. I somehow missed out on both of them...oops.

I haven't spotted the TRU version yet either, although I did get lucky and found the Apollo exclusive.

The hunt begins...!! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif
