Saw this on ebay. Not my auction (if I had one I would never sell it). Is this a realy one? It looks like there are hits of where the paint was removed on the head and arms where the brighter colors would be. Anyone know how to tell if it is real?

I would say a great big no! As you say, you can clearly see the original colour.

Fake! What did this guy do? Put primer on the original Fett? Least he could do is make sure the original color doesn't show through in a photo.

It looks like he stripped the paint off. Whatever he did he did a terrible job of it. Al least he could have used more than 1 coat of paint. Whata moron. HE should also say that it is a custom not the real deal.

The little firing tab it missing as well.

and look at the bottom of the pack and just under it where it's all chewed up where he chopped off the bottom to put his spring in there. I bet that the rocket is still attached

I want to know how he managed to keep the spring and rocket in that postition without a firing tab in there?? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think i can see a small thin firing tab just managing to hold the spring back. Some poor guy has bid on it as well:( That really sucks! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

He'd better be careful that the tab doesn't slip, you could shoot your eye out with one of those things. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously, it's sad that the seller is trying to pass it off as real, but if the guy that bid wins it for $10. $10 for a custom RF isn't bad....

Cheers
J

Like I said, I think the rocket is still glued in. Look at the bottom of the pack, there's a piece down there that's obviously glued on. I think he chopped that off and shoved the spring in, then glued a piece on there.

Check out his other auctions for a supposed 'Vinyl Cape Jawa' & Blue Snag with an interesting weapon variation!

Clearly a custom figure,
but maybe he really thinks that it is the real deal, I mean, he put a new gun in his blue snag figure auction so maybe he is not into Star Wars collecting that much,
I payed about 100 Dollars for my custom rocket fett but I got to say that mine actually fires http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The guy updated his auction and stated that it was a custom. Seems he made and honest mistake and at least did the right thing unlike alot of others.

I emailed him and let him know what he was selling and he changed the listing. I don't think he was looking to rip anyone off. I think he just didn't know what he had exactly.

That's really decent of him. I like decent sellers http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I agree that it is good that the seller put the disclaimer on the listing.

After reading a thread a few months back, one of the senior members (I think it was Crhis G.) discussed how he had researched the total number of Rocket Fetts in existence and it ranged 50-75. I found that be surprising and to be honest, somewhat disappointing. I always thought that it was an even lower number. For me personally, it seems to take away from the mistique of the figure.
Then there are so many customs like the one from the origanal post, that it even diminishes its mistique even more. Hey don't get me wrong, I would still love to own one! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Anyway, given the fact that there are only 50-75 of the around, I always use the rule of thumb that if you see one on Ebay, there is a 99.9% chance it is a custom. This is true unless the seller happens to be a respected member of these forums/community or is one of the big stores (Brain's Toys, CC, The Earth).
