Does anybody have the sideshow Grievous statue - regular or exclusive - if so can you post some pictures of the statue and packaging.

Thanks.,

EDIT: Title changed to streamline the multiple threads. This is now the official thread for this piece. All other threads still exist, but we ask that all additional discussions continue in this thread. -admin

I have the exclusive on order and my card hasn't been pre-authorized yet. We are past the 20-25 day window they gave us in their last update, and haven't received a 5-7 or 3-5 day e-mail. This piece has been delayed.

Sideshow received only a very few of the exclusives in their warehouse and are currently holding on until they get a bigger batch. When that happens, they will start to ship. However, that will not be for another week or so. We will probably get our final notices next week, and he will start shipping after the Memorial Day weekend.

Frustrating--but the wait is almost over!

I got the last one BBTS had for pre-order 2 days ago. It's the regular edition without the cape, but who cares since he doesn't wear the cape when his arms are split like that anyway. Of course, I'm just rationalizing because I wish I had gotten the exclusive!

Anyway, I got my shipping e-mail today!

By the way, is there anyone here who plans to keep him in the box? I'm on the fence because I really don't have a place to put him now. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's not the exclusive version that they have. However, it's still bloody impressive. I hadn't realized quite how huge that thing is. The only complaint I have is that he doesn't seem to be much taller than the PF Han and Obi-Wan, though I suppose that could be because he's slightly hunched over. The amount of detail, though, blew my socks off.

Please don't get me worrying about that. It may come in a few pieces though. Maybe some assembly required or something. Otherwise, that would be a huge box.

I've been considering buying an acrylic display case to display the General in and I noticed a funny error on the Sidewshow page for the statue:

Product Type: Premium Format Figure
Product Size: 25" H (635mm) x 18" W (457mm) x 18" W (457mm) with Lightsabers*
Est. Box Size: 25" H (610mm) x 20" W (508mm) x 20" W (508mm) with Lightsabers*
Product Weight: 15.00 lbs (6.48 Kg) *
* Product size and weight are approximate values. Weight is an estimated value calculated by item, box and shipping materials.

They claim both the statue and the box are 25' high, but they list the dimensions in mm as being 635mm for the statue and 610mm for the box, that's kind of impossible. I'm assuming that the box is 635mm (25") and the statue is 610mm (24") high which would make sense. Does anybody with this statue have an accurate dimensional measurement for at least the box?

Well, my worst fear about this statue has come to pass. Grievous arrived broken! Must have happened during shipping, but truth be told its odd because he was packed so well. One of his armor plates was broken off. I ordered from BBTS who obviously doesn't have any more in stock. They are contacting sideshow, but I doubt they have any left either. If anyone can make this right its joel from BBTS, but unless he can conjure up another statue looks like I'm screwed! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was a clean break, so I guess I could glue it back together. However, to spend $450 on a broken statue seems ludicrous. Unless they gave me a partial refund so I could take it to a sculptor. What do you think about that? If not a sculptor, who would you recommend? By the way, what is CA glue? This is my first high end piece.

I forewarn everyone. This piece is extremely fragile!!! Be very careful taking him out of the box. Not that this matters when he arrives broken, but you get the message. I'd hate to see one of you guys who got the exclusive end up in the same boat as me.

It's just crazy glue.

No way dude, you should contact Sideshow, I am sure they will replace the statue, just tell them you bought it from a license retailer and you should be fine.
I am sure SS have more of these since the Wait list hasn't closed yet for this item.
I completely agree with you about paying that much for a broken statue, besides you might messed up the statue with the CA and it will likely turn yellow with time, not to mention that you will always have in mind that the statue is broken.
Just go the SS way to be sure.

BBTS and SS have excellent Customer Service so you should be OK changing it.

It really is a beautiful piece, but the armor is fragile. Again, sorry but I will not build it only to take it appart. This is hard enough as it is.

I do not have the exclusive version, and as much as I would like the cape, it would hide the intrinsic beauty of this thing. I think many of you who got the exclusive may opt to display him without the cape.

Yep, I received my Vader damaged and Sideshow sent me a new one for free, before that, I helped my old Vader to be one with the Force. I am sure Sideshow will help you if BBTS canīt.

Well according to Sideshow's website, all returns/exchanges must be done through the authorized retailer regardless if the item arrived damaged or not. Seems silly for BBTS to make me send it back to them if all Sideshow wants is proof that you've destroyed the original. I'll e-mail this to BBTS. Seems alot cheaper this way.

If I may ask, how did you help your vader become one with the force? While parts of this statue are fragile, other parts are made of steel. Minor damage would be easily inflicted to this thing, but destroying it without injuring myself would not be that easy. That is unless I had a lightsaber...

BBTS is contacting sideshow to see if they have any spares for instances such as this. My fingers are crossed.

Good luck. I'm sure they'll be able to work something out for you.

Alright, for those that care I have an update to the saga. Haven't heard back from BBTS yet, but Amy from Sideshow called me. Here's the deal, Sideshow will only allow people outside of the US to destroy a damaged item because shipping it back to the US requires them (Sideshow) to pay huge fees. Since I bought the statue from BBTS, Sideshow cannot help me but they did say that BBTS will more than likely be able to secure me a replacement through their rep if I send the statue back. I'll keep you posted, and thanks for all the support and advice!

I ran into troubles with my SS Vader, and was told I would have to return it to SideShow before a replacement was issued. They send a call tag for UPS to pick it up, at no charge to you.

But that only works if you buy directly from SSC. After the trouble I encountered with defective/damaged product, I prefer purchasing directly from them. It is easier and quicker to get replacment products.

Sorry to hear the bad news, and hoping that you are able to get a replacement quickly. If you spoke with Amy, you should be in good hands.

I used a pair of scissor to cut the leather suit, and then a hammer and a screwdriver to break the arms and right leg joins. It wasnīt easy, these statues are stronger than I thought. Here are some pics:

No, they only ask you to destroy it if you live outside the US because its too expensive to send it back. They ask for the photos as proof. Basically, they don't want you selling it on the secondary market. Within the US, they ask you to send it back.

I'll post the box dimensions when I get home tonight.

what if i open this grievous or my vader a year from now and he's broken, how would i return it to SS or get it replaced??

i know some people don't open stuff b/c if they even need or want to sell it, it will sell better untampered.

OK, now I am officially spooked. I have the exclusive on pre-order, and have yet to receive a shipping notice. On top of that, it seems, that this statue has a high rate of being broken while in transit. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif Disconcerting indeed! I just got the exclusive in the mail. It took about an hour to get it all out of the box and assemble it carefully... and it's perfect. This thing is packed so well, I can't believe any one recieved it broken. My only complaint on the thing is the base is painted much more simply than the prototype. The proto looked like marble, the final base is painted with a real simple two color scheme. I was pretty disapointed when I pulled it out of the box. Besides that, it looks great. His shoulder pads on the arms are really delicate, though. I was terrified the whole time I was trying to get the cape on. The cape just adds SO MUCH to him. I feal bad for any one who wasn't able to get the exclusive.

Not to contribute to the panic, but you SHOULD be nervous! This statue is VERY fragile. Not only do you have to be REALLY careful taking this thing out of the box, but you have to pray that it arrives intact to begin with. Sideshow made a gorgeous piece here, there is no doubt about it, but they did not think about how well this thing would survive shipping. Any of you who planned to leave this thing in the box for whatever reason, think again. In fact, it's so fragile that while I was repacking it to send it back to BBTS it broke in at least 2 more places. Some of the cream colored armor is polystone, and the "chasis" if you will, is metal, but many of the key pieces of armor are PLASTIC and will snap off if you even breathe on them wrong! If you move, you might as well throw this thing in the trash because it will not survive.

On a positive note, I sent my statue back to BBTS today. They have been able to secure me a replacement statue through Sideshow. For those of you who have never bought from them before, BBTS is BigBadToyStore.com. They have the best customer service department I've ever dealt with. Jessica, the customer service manager, handled my case and she was fantastic! I cannot recommend them strongly enough for all of your Star Wars/Toy/Collectible needs.

Advertising aside, any of you who plan on buying this statue through the secondary market or from a licensed retailer should make sure they are reputable. Otherwise, this statue will be the worst $450 you've ever spent and a major headache to boot.

I'll keep you updated as I hear/learn more...

Had a call at work today -- FedEx dropped something off at home! After a good half hour carefully taking him out of the package, he looks fantastic. Mine did come with one small broken piece though, more that the glue let go on the metal plate on the back of his lower leg. It fits snugly back into the hole though, so I think I'll leave it that way. (Still telling Sideshow though...)

I have the exclusive with the cape, which, as some people said, covers up some great detail, but I think it makes for a more menacing piece overall. Yes, it's not movie accurate either with the cape on while fighting, but you can always drop it to his feet as it he just unhooked it.

I am going to take it apart and box it up until I can afford to put a case on it and a good solid table under the case.I really love it but It is something I would have passed on if I knew it would have been built so frail.I'm not a fan of really breakable stuff,it makes me nervous just walking past it with no case on it!I wouldn't think of ever trying to sell this statue,it would never survive another shipping.

hope you guys were able to see my pictures link on my post back on the 3rd page. i'm wondering how i will pack this thing back up again.

06-01-2006, 09:36 PM
I wouldn't pack him up again unless you absolutely must. Mine broke in 2 more places when I was putting him back in the box. It's the armor! It is unbelievably fragile, especially the head and the appendages. I don't mean to repeat myself, but I can't help it. I cringed when I saw how the cape was laying over his shoulder blades, which happen to be the most fragile pieces on the statue. Look at the pictures, those small posts they (the shoulder blades) are attached too are plastic and seem to be held on by glue.

I agree with putting this in a case for display and never touching it again. Imagine your sweater gets caught on one of the lightsabers...

He actually has 3 pockets on both sides, but you don't see some in my pictures now that I look at them. The cape is farily symmetrical, save 2 "Grievous-mask" lines on the back of the cape. They are only up one side of it, and not both.

Nothing on this statue is poseable. The arms come together as one unit, and slide onto pegs in his shoulders. Since they do have a groove on them that "locks" the arms in place, I suppose you could pull it back a bit to have enough room on the peg to rotate the arms, but then he'd be fairly prone to having the arms fall off since they aren't in the grooves. I wouldn't reccomend it.

I just have to say too that pictures really don't do this justice. It really is amazing to see in person. Very imposing, and an awesome amount of detail!

Hey Barry, not to pry, but I live in Canada too and have one of these bad boys coming, how much did you get dinged for on customs/brokrage from FedEx? (PM if necessary)

Barry
06-02-2006, 09:46 PM
The charges weren't actually wasn't as bad as I thought they would be. It was $119.25 CDN at the door to the FedEx guy. That was for GST / PST, $30 for customs, $7 for Fedex, and GST on the $7. (I believe that was the breakdown.) I really thought it'd be upwards of $200 at the door.

Just a note, have all sorts of combinations of change ready. The Fedex guys don't give change. Luckily mine was $119.25, so I gave him $120 and it was all good.

I feel your pain, brother! Sideshow will likely replace your statue, although since it comes in several pieces they will sometimes just swap out the damaged piece. Given that this seems to be a growing problem, it seems to make more sense for them to do it this way. I would advise you to open the whole thing and examine it closely. If it is just the head that's damaged they will probably ship you a new torso. I would have preferred this option rather than sending the whole statue back because I'm nervous that I'll have the same problem when my relacement arrives. Only problem was that my statue, on close inspection, had other small damage in addition to the piece that was entirely broken off. Keep us posted.

On a side note, I'm glad many of you have received the statue intact!

It really stinks when you wait this long for this awesome piece and it comes broken. I'm glad you are getting a new statue. I did open the whole thing and put him together. He is perfect except for the small piece broken on the torso. It is one of the neck support pieces connecting the head and shoulder. Like you, I would like to just get a new torso because i'm woried I'll get another broken statue. The torso would be super easy to replace. it came in the seperate foam box. I would be happy with that. Very HAPPY.
I bought directly from Sideshow, so hopefully I'll know more tomorrow. I have the EX version as well. The cape is awesome! Keep me posted on your status and I'll let you know what Sideshow does.

That is really funny! I'm glad we're helping to break a bad stereotype.

Glad to hear it's just the head. I'm sure Sideshow will elect to send you a replacement torso rather than a whole new statue. I think that's the best way to guarantee that you won't get a statue with a different broken piece the next time. Believe me, I'm already worried about that. Let us know what they decide. I'll keep you updated as well. Good luck!

I am wondering if anyone else has yet to receive a shipping notice on their PF Grievous exclusive or regular edition, it doesn't matter... I still haven't gotten one for my exclusive version. Not that I am aware of. I do check frequently enough. Like I said, I guess it is just a matter of pantience, but still, between how awesome this piece is, and how worried I have become about it being so fragile, I would like to know something. Oh well, beggars cannot be choosers.

Aimee from Sideshow called me today and she is just sending the torso. I just have to send a picture of the broken one. I should get it by the end of the week. I hope.
Aimee is great. I am so happy they have plenty of replacement parts. I have a feeling they are going to need them. I hope your replacement goes smooth as well.

Got my exclusive today. HOLY shock this thing up close is even better than at SDCC. He wasn't hard to put together but it was somewhat nerve racking. He is so deep I cannot put him where I wanted to next to my other PF pieces so I gotta come up with a second option. The cape looks great on the inside. Yes, its screened on but in no way looks cheap in person. I'm really lost on how to describe the detail on Greivous. IMO just looking at him for a short time he is the best PF piece so far simplay because of the detail. I got #364.

I like him better with the cape. He is such a bonerack without it. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif I know it is not what he had on in that scene but it kind of shows him a little of both ways,big/bulky with those bony arms.I am just happy to own one of these. Got my Grievous Exclusive today, and sure enough, it's broken as well. Hopefully, you'll be able to swap out your broken torso and not have to send the whole statue back. Good luck, and let us know how it all works out.

Just got my Exclusive today. It is also broken, but not bad. The armor on the hip just came unglued. I thought about just gluing it back, but at $450, it should have not been unglued. Call Sideshow. I was in the same boat. My waitlist reservation had been converted to an order, but I never received any shipping notification and my card had never been charged. I got another email saying that the product should be within their warehouse within 3-5 business days, but nothing ever happened.

I finally called them last Thursday and they said that they should be finished processing the orders by the weekend. Monday came and went with nothing in my inbox, so I called them Tuesday and they said it should be processed by Wednesday. Wednesday came and went and nothing happened, so I called again this morning and the lady processed it while I was on the phone. I just got shipping confirmation a few minutes ago.

You are right, I did order it on the 6th. I would definetly call if I were you. I had bought a SD vader and got a message about grievous. Sent an email, but called the next day anyway. I finally unpacked mine last night, and alas, I had a broken piece as well. It may actually just be a piece that came unglued, I'm not 100% positive - its one of the gears that attaches the shoulder to the under part of his chin.

I was able to place it back into the slots, but its not a strong fit and will easily fall out. I guess I can glue it and it won't take anything away from the value. I really don't want to repack this thing and send it in, and I believe Sideshows replacement policy is that you have to send the entire thing in.

I had received my Treebeard bust cracked, and they replaced it with no problems (I will back what was mentioned earlier, I have found Sideshow's customer service to be great).

How do you put it together? How much force do I use getting the pieces together? What should I be aware of as I open the box? This will be my first Sideshow statue. congrats on your Grievous purchase. I have one and it is awesome!
Sideshow has an unpacking thread on their website when you click on Grievous. Just read it and you will be fine. Just take your time. It may take 30 mins. to get him out. Have a good area to work and never hold him in a weak area like his shoulder armor. Always handle him in a solid part. Check him over for damage. You should be fine.

Finaly got the replacement parts for my Grievous. After a over a month of mized up shippements, damaged items, etc. the exclusive Grievous is mine!
I have an extra, broken, set of legs and arms. Anyone have an extra torso, head, lightsabers, and base? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Razor's Edge (click) (http://www.razorsedgecollectibles.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=1128) has the the PF Grievous on sale for $340 via their 48 hour sale (ends Friday night).

Now I'm thinking about getting one. Any idea why it's so much cheaper?

It's just because of the sale Mike at Razor's Edge does. He often does "sleeper sales" where items are marked down for 48 hours only. That's a pretty good price for the Grievous, he's definitely worth it.

Zapacity,

Nice case. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

All you need to do is have a "pedestal" built the same size as the case above and you have one nice display.

The pedestal costs anywhere from $100-$300 depending on the size of it. A local carpenter should be able to build it. Wood with black laminate is what I prefer. Nice and steady.

42" high is a good height for them and always match the dimensions to the acrylic case from casesforcollectibles.

Something similar to what I use for my displays:

PM me if you need more info or want more pics (if you have not seen them).

Woooaahh! Hang on - comparing the SS Grievous with the Attakus one; what about the hands? Seems the SS version has fewer fingers than the Attakus.

Who got it right?

Ah, just ignore me - must be the beer. Of course, the SS version has split hands! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In order to streamline the multiple threads on the same topics, this thread is now the official 1:4 Scale Grievous thread. Please continue all discussion on this PF here.

Hi guys,

Continuing from a different thread about a properly sized case for SS Grievous, someone mentioned that a case 24" x 24" x 26" is large enough to hold him with all four sabers. Another poster said it might be too tight a fit. Can anyone confirm/disprove this? Any photos with case included would be a great help. Thanks! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

So, my wife bought me one of these...but got the regular edition. I really like the version with the cape....but I called Sideshow and there's no chance they're going to sell theirs separately.

Has anyone ever heard of someone making repro capes for this?

I put a classified ad up to see if someone is interested in selling their cape, but I don't have high hopes for that. I'm wondering if I could buy a repro somewhere (or find a pattern to make one).

I don't know of anyone that is selling repro, but you may want to check out this thread

He is going to try and make one. It may help you in making one or maybe you can get his help.

hey guys, can anyone take a close-up photo of Grievous' front left hand, mine got a bit broken and I would like a visual reference when I put it back together again. Speaking of which, anyone have any opinions on what type of glue and how much to use on this type of material. Thanks!

Okay. So getting hooked on PFs. Decided it was time to track down the General.

How do people feel between the Exclusive and regular edition? Is the price difference for the cape worth it?

Most people say yes. Personally, I might look into getting the 1:1 in favor of the PF at this point.

to me it is the "best" exclusive of any star wars PF made - even dagobah luke - and absolutly worth it.

While my favorite PF is the Luke/Yoda because of the point it represents in the trilogy, the best PF is definately General Grievous.
He's lurking over my shoulder right now and I am always fearful that he's going to strike at any second.

For almost all the PFs, I think of the Exclusive Edition as "adding" something. The General is one of the very few cases where I think of the Regular Edition as "missing" something.
