I would agree. The saber would make a great display piece, but not at that price.

Back to eBay auctions, here's a link to some Parks Obi sabers for $99 - Parks Obi's. (http://cgi.ebay.com/Parks-Mark-III-Lightsaber-Obi-Wan-Kenobi-replica-prop_W0QQitemZ6622049172QQcategoryZ99971QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem) Seems like a pretty good price if anyone's looking for the Parks version. I prefer to stay away from low feedback or out of US sellers, its just too easy for something to go wrong...

That's a good price - but anyone considering a Parks Obi needs to be aware that it's not very accurate. I'm just mentioning that in case anyone didn't know that - I can provide comparison pics of a Parks if anyone is interested.

Thanks for pointing that out, MikeyX. I think posting some pics would be a great idea, just so people know what they're getting. I just thought $99 was a good deal for someone who was tight on cash, wasn't a stickler for accuracy, and just wanted a version of this prop.

Absolutely - and it is a good deal IMHO if that's what you're after.

Pics... hmmm that means finding them http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have this one to hand (click for large version):
http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/6778/obiwansaberscomparison8tr.th.jpg (http://img65.imageshack.us/my.php?image=obiwansaberscomparison8tr.jpg)
MR weathered on the top, Parks, then some Romans parts on the bottom.

I don't like the emitter end which is totally inaccurate and has an extra step down by the stem - this forces the stem in place (otherwise it would just be loose) - but it looks totally wrong to me. Also you've got that writing on the windvane section which Roman doesn't put on there. The handwheel(pommel) is not very well made IMHO and feels plasticy. The booster section is based on guesswork/old information so isn't accurate. However I believe the grenade section is steel which for those doing some weathering may be seen as a bonus. Overall if you really can't afford anything else then it's worth a consideration - but if you can save up for something better. It wasn't good enough for me.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the pic.

Are the parts interchangeable between the Parks and Romans sabers?
Do they both use the same rod to hold it all togather?

Just thinking if I got the Parks saber on Ebay could I switch out some of it later with Roman parts?

The Parks is constructed differently - the parts screw together rather than using a central rod. I don't think the parts would be interchangeable really - although some of them might be I've just never thought about doing that.

If I was you I'd patiently collect together Romans parts and do it that way - the parts are better, very accurate, and the waiting actually adds to the great feeling of finally completing the project. I know it might seem like a pain - but I would say it's worth it. Of course you can ask me again if it was really worth it in a few weeks when the last couple of parts turn up for my Romans AFBB http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Id agree with the other comments Mikey has made though.I bought one of these at the start of the year after i sold my MR LE.It is very innacurate but i just want it as a stop gap until i get one from Roman. It isnt a bad looking replica though and for $99 is well worth it.

Actually surprisingly it's steel - that's why it's sprayed black if you get it in black rather than being anodized (like the booster/gear wheel which is aluminium and anodized).
From the Parks website on the USK (of which the Obi is a part): (http://www.parksabers.com/kit.html)

Mark III Assembly
- Machined Steel Mark III Grip - (Bronze Color / Steel Shown).

This means that weathering these is a different kettle of fish from weathering a romans or other aluminium grenade.

Sorry for drifting off topic - but it's all related to that great $99 deal for these which is on topic! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Continuing the off-topic-ness, one of the downsides of steel is that if you screw up, its much harder to fix because the weathering is natural. Just keep that in mind

Still needs the transistors, but you could always get in on the current Stormpath group order for those.

However I believe the grenade section is steel

Im sure the Parks grenade is Aluminium Mikey http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I stand corrected Mikey http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif sorry mate http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just started battering my parks Obi Wan today as i have a bubble stip and stormpath transistors on their way soon. After taking it apart i realised it was steel http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Pretty embarrasing really as i work with Steel and Aluminium every day of the week http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm considering it........maybe.

There is some risk there but the seller does have good feedback. Only 2 sales though, rest are purchases.
I'd pass on this to, if it was a complete item it might be tempting.

Just a little update, the seller is now refusing to part with the items, and has refunded the PayPal payment, stating "This item was listed in error. I am sorry but I cannot sell it for the price listed."

First asked him if he could ship UPS or Fed Ex (he charges $25 for shipping and $35 for insurance. He said no, they had nailed him in the past.
Then asked him if he could scan the plaque and he said the item is MIB.
So I asked him if he could take a photo of the item, here is his response:
</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font>
I'm at work, and will be for the next 4 days, I am an anthropologist, and will not have access to a scanner till atleast next week. I won't be able to put a picture up of the box. I offer a full refund policy and insurance on the item so even if you decide you don't want it after you purchase it, you can return it for a full refund of the item price. I am sorry that I can't get more pictures up, but this job is a field job and besides this labtop, i don't have access to anything else.

Jonathan spent about $1800 for his new AFBB AP. They are going for around $1200, but I've seen at least one or two each week on eBay. So that may be temporarily driving down prices, but $600? You got a steal.

Yeah, stay clear of this bid! It is big time sketchy. I was the guy who did not pay on time.

As soon as I clicked BIN, I got a message stating that I need to pay in 5 hours. Then I replied back that no where in the listing did it state that. He then emailed back stating he meant within 24 hours and just wanted to make sure that payment was made. Once again, no where does it state payment must be received within a certain time frame.

I then emailed again and told him I didn't feel right about it and left him my number to call me. He never called. Also check out the sketchy insurance policy he describes for $50. So at the least, this guy could make $50 bucks if you return the item. He then told me all is good and I could re-Neg on the bid if I left him positive feedback. I left him some feedback but with great reservation.

Stay clear from this guy!!!!!!!! Nothing felt right about the whole thing.

Darth_Vexed

TOYNK had the ROTS Obi, Vader and Sidious sabers in a Best Offer / BIN for $690... I asked how much for Sidious and Vader and was told that they wouldn't break the set. So I offered $590 so that after shipping, each saber would be $210 shipped. (figured I could find a taker here for that Obi)

Well, my offer gets accepted and then an hour later another guy at TOYNK responds and says he can do the two sabers for $200 each plus shipping... arrgghhh!

Anyway I called their number (on their site) and worked things out to just get the two Sith sabers for a total of $424 shipped.

I had been shooting for as close to $200 as I could for a few weeks for the Sidious and just recently decided to go after all the prequel Sith sabers. (Now if only I could get a good deal on those other three...)

Anyway, it's hard to say how low these will go, but I had a pleasant experience with TOYNK and am happy with what I ended up spending on these two sabers.

The Star Trek First Contact Phasers are weird. I sold mine, not an AP, for $350 on ebay with a Buy it Now. een them go for $200, and as high as $400. And thats just the LE. I've seen the occasional SE go for the same. I don't get it.

hmm, seems very suspicous. He paid to have these listed as feature plus listings also, which means he paid over $20 to list each of them. Free shipping will cost him $10 to $20, other eBay feels will like be another $5. So he is really only looking to get $100 - $130 out of these. No where does he say they are Master Replicas, or Limited Editions, only that they are licensed and include a LE plaque. These could be a great deal for someone willing to taking the risk.

Howdy fellas. I have been collecting the MR .45 scale sabers and the FX sabers for a couple years now, and after seeing a Sidious in person last weekend, I felt I had to try and grab one of these from this guy. I did check the feedback, and everything seemed on the up and up with replies, plus he is offering a money back guarantee. I will let you know when I hear back from him (He said he had #'s 103, 88, 67, and 143, so I requested #88). I did use a CC on Paypal, so hopefully I will be protected either way. I know, if it seems too good to be true it probably is, but being this will be my first LE, I was tempted. After dilly-dallying around and missing out on the Anakin ROTS LE from Darkside collectibles this past weekend, I thought I would give this a try...

Good Luck with it. I hope it works out for you, at least you will be fairly safe since you used CC to pay. Worst case you will have the hassle of trying to get the saber and/or get a refund from your credit card company. There is a good chance it is legit, other than the odd listing format and the great price.

Alright, I read his Q&A on one of his other sabers (I bought one, he still has 3 up), and this was my question:

Hello There:

I won your first auction this afternoon, and I requested #88 (both in my paypal notification and in a private email). You stated that you sent out #67 this afternoon, but I have not received any notification that you have received payment, sent the item, or anything. If you sent out 1 today, you still have 3 available, and I am wondering if that would include mine (ebay item #6626183905) Not to be rude, just making sure (after your recent negative feedback) that the item is as described and that I am not being taken. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to the replica!

I really hope this is the real deal, but I am a "tad" skeptical now after he answered a question to one of his sabers that he already shipped #67 out today. I requested #88 (which I wouldn't mind #67), but I have yet to receive any notification of receipt of payment, item has shipped, etc. Monitor this and be careful. Just glad I used my CC through paypal. Might be a pain to get back, but I just got lured by that BIN price. Will keep everyone posted...

Yeah, I am feeling a little worried. I emailed him this morning requesting any ebay correspondence, a Fed Ex Tracking number, or ANY proof of this item actually shipping. Personnally I don't care which # I receive, but it sounds like the guy is talking out of the side of his rear. As always, I will keep y'all posted. If it is true and he gets me a Fed Ex#, there still is some time left to BIN for those interested. I certainly hope he is legit...

If you think about it, you have to notify MR by May 5th that you will be returning the helmet. Then you will have to return the helmet soon and wait. Retailers do not want to get stuck with inventory they can't sell because it went back to the manufacturer. I think this is why we are seeing people dump their helmets now. Why would I buy an in-hand helmet on eBay now, pay the cash, and then have the hassle of shipping it back and waiting. Why not let the retailers deal with this headache and buy the helmet later when they show up on eBay again after MR ships out new ones. Unless you are getting the rare plaque, it doesn't make sense to me to buy one now.

After his AT-AT didn't sell he sent me this e-mail:

"Hi,
My cousin works for Master Replicas and I am trying to power up up my power seller status here on eBay. I have had problems with people who buy panera cards froms me. They say they never got them wont pay extra to insure them and yet I have seen my stock on their eBay items for sale.
I am selling this Replica for 650.00 its near what my cost is if you are interested let me know thanks"

My response:

"Thanks for the note. Is this the original Limited Edition (with the mirror base) or is it the newer Signature Edition (with the snow base)? I am only interested in the mirrored base LE. Please confirm this is what you have. And $650 shipped?"

Here was his response . . . . sorry, but this was TOO funny:

"this is the mirrored based with the snow feature, you have to put the snow out and arrange the snow speeder however you like it this is the newer version, it gives you more options and this is for sale at Target for 1300.00 LMK

He's put more of them up, and has the User ID kept private for the buyers. Sure sounds like a scam.

Saw his reply, sounds kind of shady...

oh shoot me Im sorry as soon as I got your information from eBay I whipped it out, I will check with my cousin if you are not happy with your number I will set aside that number and get another my cousin can swap me Yikes! really sorry about that I thought you would appreciate a low number

Well, I think this whole damn thing might have been a scam afterall. I got a positive feeback on ebay, and it was: this:

Fast Payer A Great Asset to eBay Enjoy your collectable http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I certainly did not like that smart a** wink at the end of his feedback, I sent him 2 emails and ebay notifications this morning, he did reply to me with a UPS tracking number. The UPS site says "Billing Information Received", but that is it. He claimed he printed off the label and was dropping it off at the UPS store later in the day. I work for a distribution company and I know when it says "Billing Information Recieved", it does not mean the item has shipped, and as long as it has that status, the item has definitely not been shipped. Having said that, I figured maybe he would do it over lunch, or perhaps after work. He lives in Michigan (Sterling Heights to be precise) and he said he was dropping it off in Livonia (about 25 miles away), and as of 8:30pm central time, he had not sent it. So I emailed him. I checked my inbox on my email, and I was surprised to get such a quick response. It was:

Hello I have gone to poland my country I doubt i will be coming back

His "name" is Radoslaw Koskiewicz (yeah right) and he is a lying thief. Because he kept the buyer's ID private in his auctions, I just want to make sure this POS is identified and if anyone else on this forum bought from him, lets communicate. I paid with a CC via Paypal, so I am pretty safe, however I want to help anyone who is having a similar experience with this buyer. You guys warned me, and I guess I learned a valuable lesson. To be honest, this is the first time I have been burnt by someone on ebay. I will let you know if the situation changes...

Man, I feel for you. I know that there is always an inherent risk when dealing with Ebay, and it really is lousy when someone takes advantage of others.
I hope that you are able to get your money back via Paypal. Let us know how it goes.

Ouch! I am sorry to hear that it did not work out. That would have been a really good deal. At least you should not have any problems getting your money back from your CC/Paypal.

I guess it's another too good to be true deal.

Sorry about that......
