UPDATE 4/13/06
I have received the partial order of the Roman's aluminum transistor sets http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif I will be shipping the majority of the remaining orders in the morning. I will send PMs later tonight with the DC#s for the packages that will be shipped in the morning.

Again I would like to thank those of you who have graciously volunteered to wait for your sets until the remaining transistors are shipped from stormpath http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

UPDATE-2 4/12/06
As promised, here are some images of the transistor sets:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/889/stormpathsets3ij.th.jpg (http://img81.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stormpathsets3ij.jpg)

And a pic of them mounted on my chrome Roman's clamp http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/6914/transistorsclamp5ts.th.jpg (http://img20.imageshack.us/my.php?image=transistorsclamp5ts.jpg)

I have the chrome sets packaged up and they will be shipped out in the morning to TK421mv7, rocketsauce, Carbon_Freeze, lesternessman, and Luuke66. The other orders will be shipped when I receive the aluminum sets from stormpath. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

UPDATE 4/12/06
I have received part of the order from stormpath. I sill post some pictures this evening. I only received the chrome sets and the Parks sets. I will be shipping out orders including just chrome sets tomorrow. (Please watch the list below because I will mark your order SHIPPED when it has been shipped http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

When I receive the aluminum Roman's sets I will ship as many of the rest of the orders as I can. Since stormpath did not have enough aluminum Roman's sets to complete the order we will be short a few sets. A couple of you have offered to wait for the next run and for that I am grateful. Unfortunately a few others will have to wait also. Stormpath and I are sorry. Please PM me if you ordered only an aluminum Roman's set and you do not mind waiting. I would prefer for this to be voluntary so I do not have to decide http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

UPDATE 4/04/06
I received an email from stormpath today and he told me that after further inspection some of the anodized 8-32 sets do not meet his quality standards. Unfortunately it will be several weeks before he can have replacements available. He is deeply sorry for this issue but instead of delaying the order he is going to ship the sets he has completed to me. The order will only be short a few 8-32 (Roman's spacer) anodized transistor sets so if there is anybody who ordered one of these and would like to change your order to a 6-32 set for a Parks saber please let me know. Stormpath promised to send the 8-32 sets separately as soon as possible. Since I ordered a 8-32 anodized set I will be sending my set to one of you and waiting for the next order. If there is anyone who still prefers the 8-32 anodized set and does not mind waiting please let me know.

UPDATE 4/02/06
I received an email from stormpath today and he picked up the anodized transistor sets from the factory yesterday. He says they look great and he will be shipping our order soon http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

UPDATE 3/27/06
I received en email from stormpath today and the aluminum transistors have been sent off to be anodized. Hopefully they will be on their way to the US next week http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

UPDATE 3/20/06
I received confirmation from stormpath that he received the Western Union payment. He told me that the aluminum transistor sets will be ready in a few days but he predicts a couple of weeks before he can ship them because of delays at the factory that does the anodizing. More information as I know it.

ORDER NOW CLOSED
<s>I am now taking orders</s> for the "Strompath" transistor sets. Many of you know that I have been organizing this group order to save us all some fees and shipping and to make it more convenient for those who prefer to pay with PayPal. Since Stormpath is located in China and can not accept PayPal payments I have agreed to receive the PayPal payments and send the funds to him via Western Union. Stormpath will ship the order to me and I will ship out via US Mail.

For those of you who are not familiar with the famous "Stormpath" transistor sets here are some details: each set includes two transistors (threaded 8-32 for the "Roman's Empire" spacers) and two matching washers. There is a choice between two different finishes: aluminum (machined aluminum finish) and chrome (chrome plated brass).

Here is a picture of the two diferent sets with chrome version on the right...

I will see if I can get an estimated ship date from stormpath. The last time that I heard from him (last week) he had the chrome sets ready to go but he said that it would be a couple of weeks for the aluminum sets. I will be sending him the payment on Friday and with any luck stormpath will be able to ship out our order by the following Friday 3/24. I estimate one week transit (via DHL) from China to the US. I will promise to ship the orders within 24 hours of receiving them so (if everything goes as planned) you could have them in hand by Friday 4/7. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had originally purchased two sets, of the four-three were damaged during installation. The first two bit the dust when I thought I had protected and then double protected my pliers with a couple layers of tape. The transistors didn't go in all that easy by hand so I thought this might work. These are what are currently on my weathered hilt. The pliers left nice bite marks in those two. The third one I got in, but not without a knick or two there, that's why it is copper leafed on my pristine, and the fourth..I worked that one in until my fingers were numb, hence no scratches, so it's the one with the washer.

Hmm...it will be tough. I'd see about getting some rubber-tipped pliers and masking the transistors w/ tape

your best bet might be getting a screw the same size and working the threads a bit. However, it could either make it slightly easier or slightly tougher..Either way, take your time. If it takes a few days by hand, then be patient enough to wait. And then again, they may go in like butter. Who knows?! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I test-fit a couple of my Stormpath machined transistors with the Roman spacer. They went in just fine. Opening up the holes in the clamp *should* be the only surgery required.

True, but it can be a little tough to thread them through the clamp even after the holes are widened

TK421mv7
03-17-2006, 10:16 PM
I figure if it comes down to it, I'll drill out the clamp with plenty of room for the thread. Once the transistor is in there you'll never see it.

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gifGot that right.

Craftsman has those rubber pipe/everything pliers that look like an oil wrench. I usually use them when I don't want to damage the piece. If you don't have them then even a few rubber bands wrapped around the transister will make gripping it easier.

I fitted a set of Stormpaths transistors to a Romans clamp and spacer the other day - from your advice I did the following:

I tried them in the spacer first - they went in almost far enough but then it got a bit tough at the end. I dabbed a bit of vaseline on the end and then screwed them in to make it smooth. I then widened the clamp by quite a long way using needle nosed pliers as otherwise, like Vaapad mentioned it can be hard to get them in all the way with the clamp on. I then very carefully filed off the bits of the clamp that now stuck up a bit from widening the clamp (masking the area of clamp around it obviously). Then they went in like butter http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif That sounds waaayyy more complex than it was - the whole process took about 10-15 mins. and the result was totally worth it - these are the best transistors by far IMHO.

Cool!

I think I have an idea that might save a bit of work.... if you have a small file set (with different curves and angles) it might be easier to simply use a half-circle file on the inside of the clamp holes to widen them without having to force the metal with pliers.

Actually on mine I used a metal awl to very slightly enlarge the holes through the Graflex clamp. Since the awl ("ice pick" to some people) is round it perfectly matched the round thread of the transistors. It was very easy and took little effort, just twisting of the awl while gently pushing http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just checked the online tracking info and they do not have any updates for your package http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif Wes, yours was in the first shipment that went out last Thursday.

I checked the online tracking for all of the packages (even the ones that shipped on Friday) and they all show as delivered.

Is there anybody else who is missing their transistor sets?

Package received yesterday from Vaapad - and I've sent on the two packages to Revan and _Lee_ so you should get those in the next few days http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In addition to some threaded for my Romans spacer I also got a set threaded for my Parks Obi. Having spent a bit of time bending the clamp holes wider etc. (see earlier post) for the Romans spacer I was stunned to find that the 6-32 threads screw straight into the Parks without any problem whatsover - I didn't even have to loosen the clamp! Score 1 for Parks there - although IMHO that is the only score over the fantastic Romans parts. I wonder if Roman could offer a 6-32 threading for the transistors (or do both, 8-32 on one side, 6-32 on the other?). The smaller threading seems like an easy choice for me - the 8-32 threading simply doesn't fit through standard clamps.

Oh and the addition of the Stormpath transistors to the Parks has also made it look alot better than it did before. It's bizarre that the addition of what seems like such a minor detail can have such a big impact on how something looks to me http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks again to Jedi_Dogs for running this group order.

I am glad that you are pleased with the transistors, I agree that it is an amazing diference. Props to stormpath! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have considered installing a pair on my weathered MR saber. Would that be wrong?
