Man, looks awesome....every now and then I sit back and have to eat my words...not too proud to do so....I always bashed the prototypes of this figure.

But as it seldom happens...the final product looks real nice...a lot better than the prototype pics.

Fantastic! That looks amazing! I'm very tempted now, more than before, to grab this one. I love the light-up feature, especially since it was revealed you can actually plug it in, not just use batteries (I'm hoping this is still the case...)

Yes, you are right, it looks far better than the prototype pics.

And you have to see it with your own eyes, "the real thing" is even better. Not to mention the pleasure to touch all the differents parts (The leather suit, the gloves, the clothes, the lining of the cape, etc...).

I almost canceled my order (after waiting for one year!!!) but now I'm very happy with it, it looks really awesome. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

BTW, thanks for the compliments on my pictures...

Wow! Your pictures are awesome! Why yours even looks better than mine and I have the exclusive w/mouse droid. LOL!
Totally awesome lighting and background! Hope you display him like that! I just took a close look at my 12" Medicom Vader and well, he's not so impressive anymore after looking at the SS Vader in front of me. The SS Vader is ONE AWESOME PIECE! I'm glad that even those who were critical have come around. Sideshow is making itself into one of the most desired Star Wars collectibles franchises ever. 12" Mace Exclusive sold out in about 1/2 hour! Awesome! Get the PF Vader while you can, if he is available!

But I noticed that the belt buckle is reversed...
(upside-down)does it swivel around? or is it factory attached? Can you fix it without having to udno any gluing?

I love mine, except for his crotch guard. On mine his crotch guard is a bit too high. It actually covers his stomach and his crotch is hanging below it. My first one arrived broken and it's guard was in the exact same place. So I assume all of the Vaders are like this.

Anyone agree with me??

Just got my Vader today and all I can say is WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! He is so much more awesome in person than in pictures that I can't even really put it into words. For all of the whining and complaining about screen accuracy, helmet size, etc. all I can say is that once you have it in hand all of that goes completely out the window. If you're a serious Vader collector like I am this is THE one thing you must have in your collection. Well done, Sideshow, very well done. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ok, I just placed my Waitlist for the SS Exclusive version with Mouse droid- it is already converting over to a real order http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Who would have thought? They must have a lot of CC declines on a pricey item; I will have to try my luck with Ben to make this a truly sweet set.

I placed my waitlist order on 03/7 or so for the SS exclusive Vader & Obi Wan, since these look awsome and will make one killer set - they coverted both waitlists over to actual orders one week later. For those that want this piece, go ahead and put your name down, the waitlist has now worked for both the 1/4 scale statues I want, as well as 1/6 Jedi Luke!

Update: I just realized Ben has not yet shipped; I am glad, my wallet just about screamed when I thought both were getting charged at the same time!

I think I am getting this... but I still have a problem with his head placement. Why, oh why couldn't he be looking more towards his saber. If only they had given us limited head articulation to change this (would have made since in relation to the single or Obi Diorama posing).

I'm not sure if you mean that he should be looking at his saber as if dueling, admiring it, or what.
A friend of mine and I took fencing lessons for almost 4 months. By no means am I an expert. Mainly we just wanted to slash each other into pieces. However, in our first lesson we were told not to look at what we were doing, but at what our opponent was doing. With practice, the saber is mearly an extension of your hand(s). You react to the movements of your opponents sword/hands/body/head/eyes. Except possibly when the sabers make contact, not looking at his saber during a duel would make more sense.

You're right theropod. I use to spar with a friend of mine, who was into martial arts, using bokken's. Vader holding his saber in front of his helmet wouldn't make for a great display since you'd have to look around the saber to get a good look at the helmet. Can you imagine if Vader was doing that in the movie the whole time he was fighting Ben?

demorathis
03-14-2006, 11:12 AM
right -- just look at any samurai style swordplay and they always hold the sword at defensive/offensive postures while clearly watching their opponent. It's like defensive driving -- students are always looking at the hood of their cars and the street right in front of them while seasoned drivers look beyond -- it's a way to anticipate danger and prevent http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gifinjury.

UPS delivered my PF Vader last night. I hadn't seen it in person until I got mine out of the box and set it up. This piece is amazing. I have the Gentle Giant Vader statue, which I really like, but this one blows it away. I was a little worried when I put it together and noticed that the tusk on the right side of his mask was missing, but luckily I found it on the floor before my cat found it. I just slid it back on, no problem. Can't wait for Obi-Wan, even though I don't have the room to display them dueling.

I don't think I explained my thoughts very well LOL http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif I didn't mean he should be looking directly at his saber. I just wish the head was either A.) Slightly articulated so it could be moved a little or B.) a little more to the left (and that's my left when looking at it from the front). If I can find a pic example of what I mean I will post it. Well, I took the plunge. The pics I had seen on Sideshow's site led me to cancel my order for the exclusive. However, these pics combined with Micheal Crawford's review (one of the pick-iest collectors out there http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif) convinced me to give it a go. And in the end, I saved 70 bucks (315 delivered on Ebay as opposed to 380ish from Sideshow... I didn't really want the mouse droid.. now imagine if the exclusive had been an extra head with helmet off... sigh, that would have been a worthy exclusive).

And speaking of wishlists, what if they had included a sound chip of Vader breathing.. sigh, that would have been nice .....

AmanaMatt
03-14-2006, 11:38 PM
A Soundchip would have been sweet. I just got my e-mail confirmation that I should have my Vader Thur! Pretty pumped for this one.

Edit: 03/16/06 Well, just received my SS exclusive Vader with Mouse droid. Simply awsome. I have been looking at it all night. Can't wait to display it with the Obi Wan 1/4 statue to go with it.

Question on the mouse droid - do they all have a small hook on the back? Is that just the design or do I do something with it?

Isn't the SS PF Vader supposed to be 21" tall?

theropod
03-22-2006, 09:51 AM
I didn't realize how decieving the photo might appear.
Trust me, this Vader is HUGE!
The monitor is 17" viewable and "19 tall. The perspective may be decieving because Vader is about a foot deeper back behind the monitor and it was shot from the opposite angle.
The head and saber tip is actually much higher than the monitor.
I'll follow up with a comparative shot with something else to put it in scale.

I'm late in the game but just ordered one myself. It'll be my first SS PF. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you're like me, then it won't take you long to get caught up. I got my first PF (Luke and Yoda) 3 months ago, got completely hooked, and now I've got them all and a preorder for the Biker Scout. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif These things are amazing!

The Museum quality is what does it for me. I wish I could afford more of them.

Space and $$ are prohibitive.

UPS dropped off this sucker at my door the other day, and all I can say is WOW! I'm really impressed with the quality of the costume. The fabric for the cape and the faux leather are all top notch. I did have a bit of a scare with the light-up feature, but I just had to jiggle the foot into place on the base and it works fine. No PF collection is complete without Vader, and SS definitely did him justice. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

congrats on the new addition! it is a great piece. i must warn you that its a dust magnet. i strongly suggest buying a case or finding a cabinet he will fit in. mine is in a curio cabinet and looks great. i know sombody that has it displayed without protection and the dust has almost ruined it.

Man, that's some killer dust! Is that because the dust is so destructive, or is it that the material of the PF Vader is so delicate?

Dust is the very reason I have yet to take mine out of the box. I've had the Exclusive version sitting in my room ever since it shipped way back last year, but I have no where to put it, so I figured I would leave it alone until I can get a glass case for it and properly display it. As much as these cost, the last thing I want is a dusty looking $350.00+ statue.

Mine is in my basement, where the dust is less than normal rooms.
But I use a compressed air can once a week to keep it cleaner.

If funds permit, I'm planning on getting acrylic cases for all of my PF statues someday.

Has anyone tried improving the colors on Vader's chest box? I noticed that the colors weren't quite right...

I repainted mine with some transparent red liquid acrylic. I used a specially formulated airbrush paint so it would brush on thin but with highly saturated color. I only used about two drop worth of the paint so I was able to return it to the art supply store later that day.

I passed on this last year for a price well below retail and am regretting it now. I've got Old Obi-Wan fighting Darth Maul and it just doen't look right. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

This Vader pics look amazing. I intend getting one soon. How much would be a good price for it (remember I'm from Romania - shipping will be a lot). Any advices on how to display it and where to get a display case for it?

Always on.

That's what I'm afraid of. I'll try getting mine next month from a good friend. For now I don;t have a place to display it but when moving to the new house I have 2 options: buy a nice curio where to display other items too, or to get a separate display case just for Vader...

After a long struggle I managed to find a really cool UK seller who had the Sideshow Premium Format Darth Vader I was looking for such a long time. So finally Vader has landed in my back yard.

The statue was MIB, I was the first to open the box to see what is inside. But didn't open it completely since I don't have a place to display this awesome piece yet. So I took a few shots and in the end I put Vader back in his original box and then stored it safely. This is until I move to the new house and find a display case for him.

BTW is does anyone know where I could find someone to sell/made me a display box for my PF Vader?

Here are the pics I took yesterday afternoon:

I received the display case for my Premium Format Darth Vader last week. It was made by a Romanian company www.pleximet.ro (http://www.pleximet.ro) and is really professionally made. It is very large and heavy, protected on each side by a plastic sheet that comes off when I'll get it ready for display. It costed about $70 including shipping.

No pics of it yet because I packed it up and brought it to my new house where it will wait until I move there and then PF Vader will have a display home. I'm happy http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Please could anyone describe me the way Vader stays on the stand (pics if possible)? I mean on Vader's foot there a hole, and a similar hole is on the stand. The holes were filled with small wooden sticks (for protection I think) when I first opened the box to look at the statue. Does anyone know if Vader comes with a metal rod to fit in both his boot and stand holes, or he just stays like that? Thanks http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Added a pic - what is the square hole for?

The other hole is for the second peg on his foot. One peg peg has the electronics, the other is square.
Glad you found a case for it!

OK Sergiu, I checked my PF Vader for you. My Vader has 2 metal rods on the bottom of his foot. One is for that round hole, and one is for the square hole. It seems that somebody stuck the wooden sticks in place of the missing metal bar that goes into his foot.

I hope that helps!

After searching for nearly a year, I finally finally secured a mint in box 1/4 PF Vader. They're getting tougher and tougher to find with more of them ending up in permanent collections.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to display it until I get a display case with a glass door on it.

This is easily the prize of my SW character collection. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Now the question. I have a AC adapter that comes with the PF Vader and it seems it has the connectors that fit for European plug/outlet. Please is this already made for Europe or I still need to get an adapter for 220V that goes here?
