WOW!

I have not spoken very good on any pics I have seen of Luke or Han but this Vader looks real nice. Looks a lot better than the prototypes...at least in these photos.

Congratulations and enjoy.

After seeing this, if I ever find one around $200 I might get it....LOL. I know I will never find one that cheap but that is all I can justify to myself to spend on a statue.

I saw an attakus 2 (in a store window) in France 2 years ago, so I can't even begin to imagine how good the sideshow Vader will look in real life with real clothing and lights.

Well, after seeing Sideshow's very unflattering pics of the Premium Format Vader I decided to cancel my order a couple of weeks ago because I just didn't think this piece was going to be worth the money. I stand before you now with my tail between my legs admitting that I was very wrong because the Vader statue is one of the coolest pieces of SW swag I've ever seen. So cool in fact that I have already reinstated my order and can't wait to actually have this thing on display in my collection. Sorry I ever doubted their ability to deliver on this one because it's truly a spectacular statue. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Just don't place it next to your life size Vader Brent, or your SS Vader might start to suffer from "saber" envy. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Does anyone here have the Darth Vader bank that lights up and plays the Imperial March? Why is it that the Saber and lights work better on that $20 bank than Sideshow's $350 Vader?

SS Vader's saber looks so dim halfway up the blade, and that's even with all the lights out!

What a bummer.

I was thinking, after seeing the pics I have no idea where I'm gonna put that http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I guess I could have bigger problems than not knowing where to display that sweet Vader statue. I would think that with the cloth cape and dust issues you would almost have to either put it in a cabinet or a custom display case right?

Mini_Rock_Banned
01-29-2006, 05:45 PM
I hear ya sith! Originally, I was going to get a 47"w X 14"d X 26"h case to house both Vader and Ben; but, I'm not too sure now what size to get. For now, I'll probably get a temporary case for Vader until I figure out what I'm going to do.

I'm hoping to at least have the temp case before my 1/4 Vader statue arrives. There's no way I'll display this piece, or any SS 1/4 statue, without a case.

I don't think the saber is more than 2 inches higher than the helmet. I guess Sandman can answer that for us for sure.

A width and depth measurement (including base and saber) would be great too. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had to bring out the "Big Guns" over at the RPF because those guys just p!ss me off sometimes. They want everything perfect and if it's not up to their standards they'll just say it sucks or it isn't worth the money, etc. Personally, I'd rather have something that looks super cool and makes people say WOW than something that's 100% screen accurate. Like I said before, I was unfairly harsh on the Vader after I saw Sideshow's pictures, but now I'm totally pumped about it and am looking forward to adding it to my collection. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Seriously, I think a lot of the debate over this statue carried over directly or indirectly from the arguements made on the RPF. As much as I love reading/learning through the plethora of information posted there, I think that many folks here (due to increased interaction between the 2 sites) feel that if the RPF members say the Vader doesn't look right, its quite simply gospel. End of story. Cancel the order and head for hills. I'm obviously exaggerating here, but with the lack of quality photographs from SS, changes made to the sculpt over last fews months, etc, there was just no good way to make an accurate comparision without someone finally receiving the statue in hand.

...and judging by these first pics, I don't regret, for one moment, hanging on to my order. Perfect or not. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I am talking a bit from an outsiders perspective because I didn't buy it.....didn't think the promo shots made it look to good and seeing the prototypes in person didn't make me think any better of this item.

Even if it would have been an awesome piece for me, I still wouldn't have been able to afford it.

But I can understand how a bad prototype picture can make people second guess an actual product.

I admit, the final product pictures posted at the begining here make this piece look awesome. I am truly happy for those that hung in there.

But I also see th epoint of view of those that canceled their orders based on the prototype shots.

I think this is why I can understand a bit when companies like Gentle Giant and SS and others don't want prototype pictures released too early. They are afraid people's first impression on a product that has not been finalized will cause them to not buy it when the final product will actually be better.

Yeah, I fell into the trap of listening to the RPF members say how inaccurate it was and I started believing that the statue wasn't going to be any good. Granted, the pics SS released didn't help matters any, but now that I've seen how impressive the final product looks I can easily get past the fact that it's not 100% screen accurate(neither is my GG Vader or my Koto Vader or my Cinemacast Vader, but I still love all of those statues nonetheless). All that matters to me is that it looks cool on display and I think the SS statue will achieve that in spades. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had the pleasure of meeting the main SS photographer in person at SDCC last year. She is super nice and does a fairly decent job IMO. One thing I think that hurts these pieces may be the change in putting them up on the site. Either way they always as has been the case with all the SSW LOTR pieces I have or had they always looked better in person. So that's why for me I had faith that the Vader piece would look cool in person. I had the Koto 1 Vader it was very cool and I liked it a lot but sold it due to space issues at the time and the GG Vader piece is cool can't wait to add the SS one with it. I just want them to look as close as possible and cool at the same time which I believe both the GG and SS Vader's do in spades as you said.

My reasons for not buying this piece are the same as yours. I just didn't think the promotional photography looked good. I didn't know there was a debate about this thing at the RPF, but I couldn't care less all the same.

Now that I've seen pictures of the actual finished product, I gotta say it looks much better than I ever thought it would. I'm tempted to try to pick up the regular version to go along with the 1/4 Leia I have preordered. His saber sure does look like crap lit up, though....

oldschool_Jawa
01-30-2006, 01:29 PM
What's up with the the saber being different colors when lit up? The bottom part and the top part of the saber blade are a different color red. Looks bad.

demorathis
01-31-2006, 12:22 PM
Well it's just like the ENCORE vader ... it uses an LED I believe and the plastic saber is not a matt finish, which would catch all the light -- it's clear, so the only parts that reaclly catch the light is the area closest to the light source nand the area where the light would reflect inside the plastic --the tip. If the plastic where sanded, it would glow really brightly v-- but I wouldn't suggest that -- maybe buy an acrylic red dowel (hobby stores -- train shops) and then sand it with a fine grit paper and place it in the saber hole -- should work if you get the right diameter dowel...

I have been charged but it hasn't shipped.

Actually, there should be a lot of people waiting, since Sideshow said that only the people who ordered him the first day he was for sale would be getting theirs this week. If you ordered him the next day or later, he is supposed to be shipping next week.

I just got my shipment notice tonight! Vader Exclusive is supposed to arrive this Saturday! Thank goodness. I've waited a long time - I ordered the day it was sold on the sideshow site. I am so very excited, especially after all the criticisms the prototype pics received. This beauty- I must see in person - then my journey to the dark side will be complete! This will complement my Medicom ESB/ROTJ vader too and DP deluxe helmet.

Sharon, I orderd an 18x18x24 case for mine from Cases for Collectibles (http://www.casesforcollectibles.com). I don't have my Vader yet, but "Darklord Dave" over on the SSF board recommended this size case after measuring his. I figure since the height, from the base to the tip of the saber, is 22 1/2 inches, 24" should be plenty of room up top. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thank goodness they are shipping in waves, gives me time to make some space!

Has anyone found an acrylic case that will fit Vader?

It seems like your best best would be casesforcollectibles.com. A lot of guys on here recommend their work.

Someone threw the price of $180 out there as the cost for the SS Vader case, along with the dimensions, but unfortunately I didn't make note of what they were.

Oops, Mini_Rock beat me to the punch! Thanks for the additional information. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif No worries man! For a minute there I thought I was either invisible or someone had me on their ignore list. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, the case itself was $127.98 and shipping to the Northwest from Ohio was $61.28, so the total was $189.26. Totally worth it for this piece IMO.

I really want to put the vader and the obi wan together but a case that size would run about $270-350. I'll either build one with plexi-glass or display them seprately.

That's what I had planned originally too sith, but after seeing pics of the front of Vader, I didn't want to have him turned to the side with the only viewable side being the side of the statue. If I could put the two in an area where I could walk around them and see'em from every angle, it'd be a dual case for both for sure.

Thanks for the tip on the cases Mini_Rock (and the B-day wish)! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Your collection has a great elegant look. Money well spent on diplays, my friend.

This is what has me stumped. If you display them facing each other on the shelf, you won't get a really good view of the costume and other detail. Face them out, and they are both dueling nothing. I guess you need counter or table space for these, not your typical sheld space. Not sure what I'll do...

Thank you Sharon. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif There are many great collections out there that have inspired me to try and build one of my own.

tomandshell, I was thinking the same thing until I started to see the front view pics online.

I believe these are shipping out the same way the Premium versions are. If you ordered before 2/19/2005 then it will ship out with the first wave (Week of Feb 1st). Anytime after that date, it should ship out the week of Feb 20th.

Well I just got my #305 Vader today. I have to say this piece is awesome! I am very glad I held of on the GG version. Everything absolutely pails in comparison to this. You really have to see it in person to appreciate it.

Now this being said, shame on Sideshow for not doing a better job on the breast plate, it sure does show purple, not red.

All in all I am very pleased but I know Sideshow could have made that one aspect of the product better. The saber glows beautifully!!

The Scale of the SSC 1/4 is quite impressive.

What's up with the the saber being different colors when lit up? The bottom part and the top part of the saber blade are a different color red. Looks bad.

Interesting...the saber on my SS Vader glows in the same red color throughout.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I got my SS exclusive Vader and it is just amazing!
I realize there are varying opinions on this one, but unless you actually have one in hand and put it all together...
I just can't imagine anyone actually experiencing the whole set up and lighting it up for the first time and then deciding, no this just isn't for me. I'm sure it has happened, but I can't even fathom it.
It is just awesome and blows away all other Vaders to date. It is simply a must have and the mouse droid is huge! Very pleased with this and I am REALLY glad I kept my order. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It is awesome! I read some early reviews and feared the worst, but IMO they were way off base in those reviews.
Excellent piece and it blows away all Vaders to date IMO. I actually thought about selling my GG Vader statue and busts and my cinemacast, but then I couldn't do it. Point is this can easily be the one statue to define Vader in a collection without the need for any other Vader sculpt. Just incredible and couldn't be happier with it!

Man, you have an incredible set up Mini-Rock. Very nice! The mouse droid looks so small in pics and then you have it in hand and wow! Just goes to show how large Vader is.

FEDEX sucks...AGAIN!

Supposed to be delivered TODAY, but I go online and check and it says that they attempted to deliver.

No door hanger. I have been home ALL DAY! No one came to my door.

Now I have to wait until Tuesday to get my Darth!
