Anyone have the Ep2 clone from both Attakus and Kotobukiya who can
offer a comparison of the two versions? Is Attakus worth ~5x as much as
a Koto?

I HAD the Attakus Clone. I have the Koto. Got rid of the ATtakus.
The Attakus is HUGE. 17 inches tall I think. It was nice but I liked it but not a big fan of them though. It looked great BUT I like the Kotos and GG. Much cheaper.

You're comparing apples and oranges. One's a porcelain statue while the other is a soft vinyl snap fit figure. Of course one is cheaper than the other. They are made of different materials.

For the record, I only have the Koto version and I'm quite happy with it, thank you very much http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

some Koto product looks very "plastic"(the cape f vader look like very plastic),but some items are look very good, such as clone, boba, and yoda.
the Attakus is limited to 1500 and Koto is unlimited....very easy to find in stores....2 different materials, hard to compare...

attakus are the finest star wars collectibles made. pictures dont do them justice. i have almost every attakus made. i recently bought my first koto (shocktrooper). i wasnt overly impressed. i doubt i would buy another. it all depends on your budget. attakus are for high end collectors. kotos are good for what they are.

I think its a matter of getting what you paid for. The limited size of a Attakus statue edition vs the unlimited Koto run. That is unless Attakus keeps making more for additional countries like the Japan editions. Buy what you like best.

If size is your thing, get the attakus.
If dynamic sculpting is your thing, get the kotobukiya.
They are both a little stylized, the nature of sculpting...
Certain statues from attakus are sculpted directly from pub photos like...

attakus vader 1(is from a popular photo the pose looks natural unlike attakus vader 2 -- tweaked from version one)

Attakus tusken raider is also from a pub photo.

Attakus wicket, and perhaps the bob fortuna -- don't know 'bout that one for sure yet...

Also consider whether or not you care about the breakability of the product one is pvc a little more durable, but there are more pieces to contend with that are made of abs plastic like in the joints and such (crazy glue can fix almost anything though. Kotots are lighter and a smaller scale... They both look kind of plastic in the cape department, but a cold cast porcelain can look good on BOTH sides of the piece unlike some plastic molding processes.
I only have the vader attakus, and if it weren't for the price would consider others like the tusken raider...(the 3p0 sucks and would rather have the GG version)
I have a few of the kotos...love all the clones (the stormtroopers bother me (the pose of the standard and the gaps in the armor vof the sandtroopers -- the scout is awesom, but his "diaper" has not been painted white)
The attakus Jango, I think looks better than the boba Fett
- the stormtrooper just looks wrong to me...

Apples and oranges. Tough to really compare these two lines. All you're going to get out of this thread is a) people praising Kotobukiya products and calling Attakus stuff too expensive, and b) snobs saying Kotobukiya kits are unimpressive and that they own every Attakus statue ever made and Attakus products are for real collectors.

Let's just say that both Kotobukiya and Attakus are fine companies and make fine products for what they are. Stuff is only worth what you're willing to pay for it - so if you want to drop $500 on an Attakus piece, go for it. They make nice statues.

I own a lot of stuff by Kotobukiya (not confined to SW items only) and plan on picking up either the Attakus TIE Pilot, Gamorrean Guard or both.

well said everybody...
bottom line is which one do you like?

that would be the best one to buy....

if you like them both, get both....

Personaly, I don't go out looking to buy just one line. I get want interest me, no matter what line it comes from. For example, I never collected Koto, but I bought the shock trooper becuase I liked it. I don't collect Attakus, but I will probably get the Yoda 1 becuase I like than one. That's the way I collect. I get what I like as things are released.

Man that Grievous is nice. Although I love and will mainly stick with Koto there are a few attakus that I will eventually pickup because I dont see Koto putting them out(Jawa, and the Probe droid, that Grievous but how many bills will that be).

The Attakus version's helmet seems kind of off. What's with all the bad Ep.2 clone trooper helmet sculpts? Even Kotobukiya's Clone had its upside-down V "frowning" stripes too far up.

Attakus all the way. But, only if you can afford it. The attakus statues are really high.
