Good news, Hasbro went ahead and decided to produce our Cantina Aliens Poll's winner.

A New Hope
Momaw Nadon (Cantina Patron)
R5-D4
Hem Dazon (Cantina Patron)
Garindan
Han Solo
Luke Skywalker
Sandtrooper

Will he look like this, then?:

Since all he was in ANH was a head Hasbro could pretty make anything for his body, don't be to surprissed to see a few neimoidian bodies being use http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Really.

Resculpts for Momaw Nadon and Garindan weren't necessary just yet, in light of the dozen some-odd alien patrons who haven't been produced yet.

Darth_Broem
10-21-2005, 03:11 PM
Yeah I am not all that excited to see Hammerhead and Garindan out again. Although if they are actually decent resculpts I will probably be tempted to get them. However, like you said I wish we could be getting some more never-before-made cantina and/or Jabba's Palace creatures. I imagine though if the line keeps going that Hasbro will continually add some more.

On a side not I thought at least one of the Tonnika Sisters was heavily rumored to come out in 2006. Granted not all of the figures have been confirmed or released yet. I hope it won't be an exclusive for $15 somewhere.

Inigo_Montoya
10-21-2005, 03:18 PM
I'll most likely buy both as well, but everyone should agree that it's just wrong to own a resculpt of a modern background patron before the first time sculpting of another equal, if not better character.

On the main page, in the 411 on the Tatooine wave (http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/The_411_The_Battle_Of_Tatooine_95572.asp), it says that this will be "Dem Hazon" - ?!?!

I think that's a typo. I've never heard of "Dem Hazon" and none of my searches can find any reference to "Dem Hazon," except two or three mentions in other forums.

According to The Star Wars Holiday Special webby (http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/characters/thadd.htm), the Arcona in Bea Arthur's Cantina was named Thadd.
http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/images/characters/thadd.jpg

The only other Arcona I've ever seen named had green eyes and was named "Unut Poll."
http://www.decipher.com/starwars/cardlists/anewhope/light/images/arconawb.gif

Ok, enough complaining about names/typos/references...I'm still stoked that I'll have this guy (whatever Hasbro calls it) to go with the other figz from the *real* cantina http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif !!

"Dem Hazon" - ?!?!

Exactly what I was going to say.

That would be pretty weak to see labeled on the packaging.

If he's modeled after any Arcona other than Hem Dazon, he will always secretly be the real McCoy to me, just catching a different color of gleamed light in his eyes than seen in ANH.

Essentially, the three Arcona are portrayed by the exact same puppet mold, so only the eye colors change, that's my understanding.

Also, Unut Poll isn't actually seen in the Cantina, but is an EU imaginging by Decipher's CCG.

Hem Dazon (bright yellow eyes)

Unut Poll (bright green eyes)
http://www.starwars.jp/character/image/unut_poll.jpg

Thadd (dull yellow eyes)
Link to image provided by Bo_Chooda (http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/characters/thadd.htm)

With this in mind, I hope whichever character it is will have the bright yellow eyes, and Thadd's eyes just appear dull from the poor lighting and photography.

I figured he was probably EU...

I'm with you - whatever ends up on the package, mine's gonna be Mr. Hem Dazon himself! (do they make bright yellow white-out, just in case??) http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Something to think about:

The Hem mask had lights in it and when it was dug up for the HS, chances are they didn't bother turning the lights on. That's the problem with naming everything; people come up with supid excuses for the tiniest things. One way or another it's the same dude in my books... and his name should be Wedgeface or Trianglehead or Spade Man.

Kad

Couldn't agree more, Dave.

Kind of like that Adia Gallia/Stass Allie and Eeth Koth/Agen Kolar nonsense. Different actors played them in Episodes 2 and 3 than in Episode 1 because of the change in shooting locations, but the character designs are identical, and I'm pretty sure the ROTS script still calls them Adia Gallia and Eeth Koth, regardless of what the figures are named. It's pretty obvious that they are intended to be the same character. Bib Fortuna was played by a different actor in TPM, but nobody is suggesting that Jabba's aide in Episode I should be called Fib Bortuna. I suppose that Sam Jackson's stand-in that can be seen arriving on Naboo at the end of TPM is actually a Jedi named Wace Mindu?

[/QUOTE]

Or H'rogla'th G'tar'kgar. He's my favorite alien of all-time. If you freeze frame the Cantina scene in ANH just as "Muftak" looks up in surprise as Obi-Wan strikes down P'ond'a B'aba, you'll see that a finger is just visible in the bottom-left corner. There was only a prosthetic glove on a stick during filming, but Decipher produced a card in the Star Wars: A New Hope: Tatooine: Cantina: Special Enhanced Edition Plus: Set XVII that finally named this character, and gave him a face (Photoshopped together form various alien designs).

Seriously though, who the heck are M'iiyoom Onith and Elis Helrot?

Note to Decipher card-designers, two-bit Star Wars novelists, and comic book authors: please, please, please stop with the apostrophe-laden names already.

Yeah ... I was thinking that. If they're going to go to the trouble of finally sculpting an Arcona, why not make it Hem Dazon? It just doesn't make sense.

Fuzzy math... I count at LEAST 10 POA on ol' Hem here, and there's not a cup in sight. Just a blaster. Hem may also have swivel ankles or somesuch, tho I wish he had ball-jointed knees. His shoulders MAY be ball-jointed, his right shoulder kinda looks it anyway.

Momaw Nadon has a cup and a staff, and probably around 10-12 POA as well. The Post-OTC Cantina Aliens had ball-jointed knees and swivel elbows & wrists in addition to normal head, waist, shoulder, and hip articulation. And only 2 had a cup, one had a pipe! All three had blasters. As did Holiday Special Cantina Zutton... AND a bazooka, and hinged knees, so more than 5 POA there!

Give in to the Cantina Aliens! At least the ones from '99 and after! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ellorrs Madak- 6 POA and blaster (nope)
Ketwol- 4 (possibly 6) POA + Removable pants (nope)
Zutton- 8 POA + bazooka + blaster + cup (good figure but i like ball-jointed knees better)

Amanaman- 4 POA + staff + skeleton (nope)
Salacious Crumb- 0 POA (NOPE)
Djas Puhr- 5 POA + 2 Blasters + Blast Effects (nope)
Ephant Mon- 3 (possibly up to 7) POA + Cane + Vibroblade (nope)
Achk Med-Beq- 7 (possibly 9) POA + Blaster + Cup + Bar Table Stand (crappy knees and dont like the face but it's OK POA wise)
Ayy Vida- 7 POA + Bar Glass + Bar Stool (lack of a blaster but POA wise she's OK)
Elan Sleazebaggano- 4 (Possibly 5) POA + Blaster + Bar Section + Death Stick Container + Bar Glass (nope)
Rappertunie- 3 (Possibly 5) POA + Growdi (nope)
J'Quille- 8 (possibly 10) POA + Blaster Rifle + Base (good. would've bought him if I saw him)

Greedo (Cantina Set)- 8 POA + Bar Section + Bar Glasses (nope)
Momaw Nadon (Cantina Set)- 6 POA + Bar Section + Bar Glasses (nope)
Ponda Baba- 8 POA (9 counting arm) + Bar Glasses + Bar Section (no blaster. nope)
Dr. Evazan (Cantina Set)- 8 POA + Blaster + Bar Glasses + Bar Section (OK figure)
Kitik Keed'Kak (Cantina Set)- 3 (possibly 5) POA + Bar Section + Bar Glasses (nope)
Wuher (Cantina Set)- 6 POA + Bar Section + Bar Glasses (nope)
Feltipern Trevagg- 11 POA + Bar Glass + Blaster (great figure)
Myo- 10 POA + Bar Glass + Blaster (great figure)
Dannik Jerriko- 11 (possibly 12) POA + Hookah Pipe + Blaster + Removable Proboscises (good fig despite holes in face)
Well that was fun! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif
17/26 of those figures suck IMO. So it rounds off to about 5 maybe 6 POA (from what I could see from the pictures on RS) which makes me about right and almost half came with cups. (and that was only figures from '99 and after)1 question still remains however, why did I do this?

I like that he (and Garindan) are fleshed out. I'm normally all for movie accuracy, but some cantina figures (Snaggletooth, Dannik) aren't particularly interesting because they're wearing costumes that were only designed to be seen for a split-second in the back of a shot. So as long as Hasbro doesn't go insane, I'm all for dressing them up a bit....

I know this character was only a hand-puppet in A New Hope, and that we never saw him below the neck. But honestly… is THIS the best that Hasbro could come up with for the look of his OUTFIT? I mean, he looks completely wrong to me! I imagined him wearing the simple raggedy duds that most Mos Eisly denizen wore. Also (for some reason) I imagined him to be a SHORT character. A decent enough figure, I suppose. Just NOT what I imagined him to look like.

Great fig. I wish the neck was just a little longer. But really no complaints

Yeah, shouldn't the neck be longer, or am I just thinking that cause of how he pops into frame? Have to go check that...
How cool would it be if his neck telecoped out of his body? They're already taking liberty with his outfit, why not add a unique feature that would be easy to do yet wouldn't mess up the figure like some "action" features. Would be fitting too since they made him look kinda like E.T.

You know what? I hate to complain, but I kind of agree. I mean, the body design is okay, but it is just not what I was hoping for either. I was expecting something either a little more ragged ala Hammerhead of cheesy futuristic like Greedo's jumpsuit.

I'll get it, but it doesn't excite me nearly as much as I'd hoped or expected.

I'm gonna 3rd the motion too- theoretically, he can be designed in almost anything, and Hasbro would have a good argument since we never really saw an outfit in the film. But, we all have a "feel" of how 1977 aliens should be dressed, and this isn't it to me either. Artistic license is okay, but between this and Long Snoot, it's starting to look like G.I. Joe alien corps or something.

Now had the outfit been closer to this, I would REALLY be excited. The collar here is so cool and interesting. I just find the look and design of the finished clothing to be way to generic. I like the hands and the feet, but the wardrobe is just totally lame-o.

The original rumors did say that the figure was called Dem Hazon, which is the Arcona from the Holiday Special I think. So this might be a HS figure, like Zutton. I'm not sure.

3 things suck about this figure:
1 He comes 1 per case
2 It apears the EP4 figs base only says "STAR WARS" not "A NEW HOPE"
3 No carded pics of this wave except last years not-so-clear-sneek peek at Sandtrooper, out of curiosity, what could the corner color be? maybe blue like Scorch's since the logo on the bases are identical.

Overall the figure iteself is superb, no complaints about sculpt or attire from me.

I believe it's supposed to be a greatly scaled down cantina table made into a sort of arm table or something.

I know it's a little off topic but is it just me or does anyone else think 80 figures in a year is a huge amount! i mean how long did it take us to get to 500 - I dont think 1000 will be so far off - anyone back to the topic - Hen Dazon has been on my most wanted list for an age now - leaves me with only a few left from the cantina that I'd like to see made and even then it looks like we're gonna see then - nice to get the feeling hasbro is finally giving us what we want! hahaha... it's fairly accurate regarding EU ancillary art (from comics or WEG or CCG or something). And it's a great lookin alien. A bit more leg articulation would've made Hem & Garindan phenomenal, but they both look 'merely' fantastic, have great non-troop/main-character arms, working holsters, straps, belts, etc...

The reason I'm really likeing this guy is cause I read a book with Arconans in it. It was on of those "Jedi Apprentice" books I think, very short, almost elementary level. Anyhow, the storyline was about a young Obi-Wan, nearly 13 years old, still waiting to be taken on as an apprentice. He befriended an Arconan in his travels, and they worked/fought alongside eachother for most of the remainder of the story.
Anyhow, I found the story really interesting as it was the description of how Obi-Wan came to be Qui-Gon Jinn's apprentice, and it turned me on to Arconans.
That's my 2 cent story, lol.......

Okay so I was putting up all my displays at the new house today, and is anyone else having a hard time with this little guy?

My goal is to have him standing, glass in hand with it resting on his little. . . table I guess it is. My problem is that his table is to short for him to lean on and have the glass still straight up. And if I lean the actual fig forward, he falls right to the floor.

How are other openers displaying him?

OleeStarstone
06-01-2006, 07:53 PM
He goes perfectly with the K-Mart Cantina exclusives of a couple of years ago. Even the little table is a nice addition as the bar pieces from the others just snap together and you've got this bar that's waaaaaay too long.

Add in all the figures from the three-packs, plus every Cantina patron I've collected over the last several years (from Djas Phur to Dannick Jerriko) and you've got one honkin' good diorama. I just wish they'd make a Cantina playset with booths so it would look more realistic.

pmrjulio
06-02-2006, 09:52 AM
How many cantina 3-pack were released? I could find only 2 on e-Bay. And they were very expensive.

This figure is sweet! I liked the most the Blue booze glass.
I was planning to get only Sandtrooper, R5 and Hammerhead, but when I saw it, I figure will be a good figure to start a Cantina diorama.

I have the cardboard diorama from the SW fanclub (circa 1997) still mint, so I wonder if build it or not.

Didn't know there was a cup variation. I'd like to see a cantina accessory set with assorted cups; maybe a pitcher of some sort; maybe some little critters for snacks; and definitely a few of the TSC drink stands.

I like all of these background characters also, but this fig kinda let me down. The sculpt is great, but the flimsy blaster was the bad thing. The bandoleer and holster kinda of bother me also. Hasbro really need to move on to better molded guns, staffs and other access. for the figs.

I never collected the Cantina figure before, but I have changed my mind after Momaw and Hem. Great looknig fig with a lot of detail on his body. The gun is a little flimpse and the holster could have been done better, but the fig looks like he is having a good time drinking.

I got him giving Momaw "cheers!"

Thanks, Blight, for the link to the PSA. Apparently, Hem Dazon was meant to be hairy and not wear clothes.

Anyway, I found this figure last week, and I really like what Hasbro did. The head is nicely sculpted, as are the hands and the feet. The costume reminds me somewhat of Djas Phur, and somewhat of Bo-Shek or Bossk. The only disappointment at all is the softer plastic being used, but that’s becoming common. Blue Knight mentioned the blaster being a bit too soft, but it does fit nicely into the holster, which I like. The only real improvement would have been for his eyes to be reflective, maybe as separate parts. That would have been amazing. But I still quite like this figure.

Mine came with an empty glass.

Picked him up. Hasbro did a great job on him, the detailing down to the tab part of the zipper is a nice touch. Seems articulated enough to stand around and mingle with the other patrons plus appears to hae a holster for his blaster! Nice. For the moment I'll just stick to having one carded.

Mine stands upright perfectly well.

If you position the hips further forward (or the torso further backward) than you think you need to, he'll balance just right.

I think that's why Toonimator made that comment. It was sort of a joke. Knowing that it was just a head on a stick on the film set, it looks like the propmaster just wrapped some faux-fur remnants round the stick for this PSA.

And look how he jumps up from his seat. There was probably somebody on the floor, holding the stick, who just thrust is upward to create the effect of Hem Dazon jumping up to fight the other alien (whatever his name is). Hilarious.

HEM DAZON....another varient found!

I was at Target tonight, and came across yet another Hem Dazon varient. This one has a completely painted glass...like not clear, but a satin type paint, both white and blue. Has any one else seen any like this?

yeah...thats not new.

Man, I just finished getting all the cup variants. You kinda scared me there. But that one has been out for a while.

http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC/tsc033hemdazonglass-tn.jpg
Wasn't this the first variation released?

Oddly enough when it came to stocking these varients my local Wal-Mart actually went in reverse order of how they were released.

I believe it was. I'm not sure if the clear or the "satin" blue and clear came next. But the one pictured above is the one I got when I fisrt bought Hem Dazon and Momaw Nadon.

It's the first version. The clear glass came 2nd, the translucent liquid came third.

Anyone else's Hem starting to tilt forward due to the cheap plastic that his ankles are made out of? I have to constantly adjust this guy. Once my room is all set up, he'll be leaning against the bar so he can stop pitching forward. Drunk [censored] .....

07-26-2006, 09:29 AM
That's actually a good idea for a diorama...and not just because I had a similar idea. His right hand is sculpted in such a way that he looks like he's trying to get Wuher's attention. And that the glass I have is empty only adds to the effect of displaying him at the bar, trying to order another drink.

I hate to ask, but is Hem becoming a peg warmer where you are? Normally, I don't really care, but in this case, it's a figure that I had been actively lobbying for prior to his announcement last fall - definitely voted for him in whatever fan's choice poll he was in, etc.

So when one I supported starts to 'warm, I hate seeing it, as it makes me worry about other more obscure characters that I want... Will a Saurin (my now number one wanted Cantina denizen) do any better?

Is it just this character, and his design. Perhaps it's just because he was two-packed in all the revision cases that we've been getting around here...

Hope for better sales ahead - besides, we need to clear some space around here for more Endor, and E3GB...

I know what you mean, but think of it this way:

Ellorrs Madak was one of my most-desired figures since my childhood. It took a Fan’s Choice Poll for him to be released, and although he remains one of my all-time favorite figures, he warmed the pegs for months in some shops, years in others. That was unfortunate, but since then, we’ve seen Feltipern Trevagg, Myo, Dannik Jerriko, Hem Dazon, Momaw Nadon, and Greedo, who was both repainted as well as resculpted and given soft goods. And four repainted Cantina Aliens are on their way as end-of-collection exclusives, if that indicates anything…

Perhaps it's just because he was two-packed in all the revision cases that we've been getting around here...

Maybe so. In my area, there aren’t nearly as many Hem Dazon figures on the pegs as there are Poggle the Lesser, Yoda, Lushros Dofine, Holographic Ki-Adi-Mundi or even the vintage-style Greedo. He’s as available as the Firespeeder Pilot, Garindan or Han Solo. That is to say, not moving as fast as Commander Cody or the Sandtroopers, but not bad at all.

Now that I've scored most of TSC & have had most of them for awhile, I can start to judge them.

This whole wave was strange for me. I kept expecting these cantina aliens to explode all over Ebay, insuring me of cheap finds & they never did. I finally had to buy them from WM for $5.99 apiece. A little weird considering the sdult fans are the ones that most wanted these. Anyway, while the detail is great as usual & it’s always nice to have more aliens, this dude seems like he’s always falling forward.

That's because here in the states, he pegwarmed, badly. It was a case where he never seemed to pile up like Padme, or endor 3PO, but at any given time since his release, there always seemed to be at least one anywhere you went, and until the endor wave if there was only one figure at the store, there was a good chance it was him. Actually, that's why I passed him up so many times, I never felst like I had to get him, he was always there, then around the time pics of the TAC cantina patrons came out, all the rest of him disappeared, so I never got my chance.
