It looks like from the prototype pics that this is a Naboo Technician or something.

I personally hope it's a complete rescupt of this figure, with super articulation, a removable hat and head variants.

Fingers crossed that it's the Naboo Soldier (Reish uniform) with removable helmet. That figure from memory was never available here at all so it would be nice to pick up one at a decent price. I hope it's not the one pictured above http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

"Ok, I know, these guys are pilots, but whatever, had guns and served the Queen of Naboo, so they are soldiers too! If the costume design wasn’t cool enough, this guy will sport the sweet trench coat. He knows that aesthetically a trench coat can make any character look bad a--. Expect a new sculpt and hopefully a head swap."

Yay after all these years poor old Ric Olie and Anakin will have other pilot friends to fly with http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Its great news that the Naboo 'Soldier' is actually a Naboo pilot.... been wanting one of these for years. Suppose its too much to ask for his cloak to be soft goods though.

My thoughts exatly, he needs cloth so he can sit in the naboo fighter then when his out he can be positioned standing with it flowing down. Hasbro better not screw this one up!!! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now the possibilities for the Pilot's identity:
'Bravo 2'
http://jarjarbinks.home.insightbb.com/Naboo/Pilot.jpg

'Bravo 3'
http://jarjarbinks.home.insightbb.com/Naboo/Bravox.jpg

Kale Porkins (Bravo 4) - played by John Knoll
http://jarjarbinks.home.insightbb.com/Naboo/PorkinsSr.jpg

'Bravo 5'
http://jarjarbinks.home.insightbb.com/Naboo/Bravo5.jpg

Bravo 5 is my favorite character performance of them.

Bravo 2 would be a great addition for the expansion of Human non caucasian characters.

But I think it should go to Kale Porkins, to give the Animatics Supervisor John Knoll a deserved immortalization as a toy.

Change this thread's title to Naboo Pilot, at least, and give the same name to the thread index.

Can't believe it myself, but this may be one of the SAGA figures i'm most looking forward to.

It's those coats man. Most people disliked the Naboo pilots but I've come to appreciate them a lot. They were few. They were proud. And they dressed elegantly for battle. Can't beat that.

I'm all for a cloth coat. And I think they should use the same material they used for figures like vintage Bib Fortuna. That "harder" cloth seems to be more adecuate, for some reason.

I wish/hope that Hasbro could find a way to allow their goggles to be moved from their helmet to their face (of course the helmets need to be removable). I'm not going to hold my breath but that would be awesome http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Agreed!

One advantage of doing Bravo 2 is that they could do a head swap later with the goateed Endor Trooper head. It looks a lot like John Knoll already.

I'm excited and surprised that the Naboo soldier turned out to be this. I was figuring it would be the hard to find Naboo guard again.

I can't believe this! Finally, finally after 5 years we are going to get my favorite character. I wrote several letters to Hasbro in the past lobbying for this figure. It must have a cloth coat, please god let it be so. I'd love to see the goggles be removable but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'd love to see 3 versions of this figure. African american, Ric Olie, and female. I know that it would require a totally different sculpt but here's to hoping!

Could not have forseen four new sculpts and only two repacks.

I also personally don't care for many pilots of the Saga, when going just by character.

Good idea; the pilot outfit isn't very form-fitting (in that film, anyway), so they could probably get away with it provided the figure's not Bail Gargantua-sized. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I 2nd (or 4th or 5th, whatever) the vote for variants with new heads (and a bit of repainting on the neck post)

Just because he's a Porkins, and has a few extra pounds, doesn't necessarily mean he's related to good ol' Jek. It's a big galaxy, despite C-3PO being built by Anakin, and Yoda bein' friends with Chewie and ALMOST Han, too, and all the other things that tie the prequels & OT into too tidy a package. There's probably lots of Porkins-people in the Republic/Empire. And they all drink whole blue milk, not that 2% crap.

One could assume, with the limited knowledge we have, that the Naboo Porkins is a native of the planet. Jek Porkins, however, hails from Bestine. Unless someone's got better info http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif No Databank entry yet on the TPM Porkins.

I remember hearing it would have the trenchchoat. My guess is that they'll take the cheap way out, and use the Ric Olie body, with a new headsculpt, and soft goods coat. I would prefer they make a new, more posable body, but I'm not countign on it. I would liek to see all of the pilots shown above made. Are you sure the Podracer pilots 2-pack will be new sculpts? I really hope so, as there are so many more that need figures made. Has anything been confirmed? I;m guessing it'll be two of the smaller ones - I hope Ben Quadinaros is one of them.

I remember reading something about the 2 racers...that one would be new, and the other would either be a re-pack or a kit bash from existing. Seeing that Quadinaros has been on at least one Fans Choice poll, I'm guessing that he'll be the new one - they probably have had it ready to go for a while and we're just getting it now, similar to the Dofine figure that was rumored to have been held back from the Ep. 1 line.

Never mind. Eh.. guess I was a little late on the uptake, that time.

I was going to say, the custom looked pretty good so I didn't know why you'd criticize it, but I'll second your point that this bloke looks a bore.

Toonimator
06-02-2006, 06:17 PM
He was criticizing the actual Naboo technician, NOT the custom. Because, really, the Naboo Tech's suit is on the 'dull' side. It's basically just a jumpsuit, and a pretty garish yellow-orange color. And his tiny head makes him look very GIJoe (of the last few years anyway, many of which suffer POTF2's barrel-chest syndrome or have massive shoulders and tiny heads)

But he's got a cool hat, and he's well-articulated. I'll get some & paint 'em a more pleasing hue. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif Good custom fodder, too!

But the gun IS ridiculously huge. Most Episode I weapons are, given POTF2 was still going on then. I remember loving the two black pistols from one of the Accessory Sets, because they were similar to DL-44s (Han's weapon of choice) but were SMALLER than the giant POTF2 versions. Now, compared to the post-POTJ blasters, they're the giants!

The decision to use pre-2000 molds on this guy's blaster & the Force-users' lightsabers is disappointing.

NuteGunray

I'll get one, at least. If I like it, and the head can transfer to other bodies & look okay, a couple more. Plus the helmet looks cool. But he does seem grossly out of proportion. And the blaster is atrocious.

And hey, he DOES have Firespeeder Pilot boots! Not the whole lower leg, the Pilot's pants are much baggier, but boots yes:

I dunno, I kinda like him. Its not a bad thing having some support personnel every now and then. At least he's still a soldier. Hell, you could probably just dremel out that old Naboo Security trooper's vest, hat, and shoulder pads, slap 'em on this guy and you're good to go on a decent looking and far more poseable version of the security trooper. Hmmm. That's not a bad idea, actually. I may just do that. Definately going to get him. And I for one don't mind the large guns. I can't stand the dinky things Hasbro's been using lately.

The shoulders are definitely Joe-esque.

Maynard
06-08-2006, 11:36 AM
I would have to say that the shoulder are DEFINITELY a GI JOE figure. SW figures have never had that visible "ball" there before. That's a Joe thing, as we all know.

Also---Are those the FireSpeeder Pilot's boots? The pants below the knees are obviously different, but the boots look very similar.

Toonimator
06-08-2006, 11:46 AM
Those ARE Firespeeder Pilot boots -- I caught that last week, though I may've posted about it in the general "Naboo pics!" thread. While the 'ball' in the shoulders is a Joe thing, I don't think it means those are Joe arms as Joes have ball elbows; I don't think I've ever seen one with swivel elbows (not since the early RAH days in the 80s before "swivel-arm battle grip" gave 'em the equivalent of ball-jointed elbows)

The body just seems too bulky overall, particularly the sleeves compared to the hands and, of course, the tiny noggin. But he still may make good fodder. I have vast amounts of loathing for that giant recycled blaster.

The figure looks horrible. The stance they put him in makes it look especially terrible, becasue it looks like some nerd at a school dance who's too chicken to ask anyone to dance, but the figure is still bad. It's bulky and akward, and the gun is too big. THey should have resculpted a new gun, and added a holster or soemthing. also, the head is too small. And, the clothes need a little variety. tEHy are plain yellow with nothing extra. I've seen that picture before too, but no idea. It looks like Davros, and really freaks me out with how deformed the guy's head looks due to the bad photoshop chop job.
I'd buy a pilot figure, but I won't be getting Tonka G.I. Joey Tribbiani.

Yeah, the female anatomy would be hard to tell from the male in those baggy and bulky outfits.

Now, I wonder who's head this is:

Yep, the pilots had cloaks (well, trenchcoats really) in addition to their regular jackets. I'm not sure what your point is, however, as this guy's NOT a pilot! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nope! This is the guy that may work on the starfighters' engines, keep things fueled, prep the ships for flight, stuff like that.

If you want a pilot, check out Ric Olie. All he's missing (besides a better, less bulky sculpt, & lots more articulation) is the trenchcoat.

It's a shame. This figure appears to have excellent articulation and no one really wants him. Whereas the 'Hunt for Grevious' packs have figures a lot of people want and they have very limited articulation. Hasbro needs to have an actual fan/collector as an advisor to work within their goofy 'rules' and still give collectors what they want to buy. I don't see this gut being one of Hasbro's famous "their for the KIDS" figures.

nagauthier
06-12-2006, 10:56 AM
A pilot would've been better, sure, but I don't think this is as bad as most people do. It's still a mostly new sculpt of a character never done before. I'll get a pair.

I will probably buy one. Just to give Hasbro a lesson, if this was a re-worked pilot (same E1 pilot body, different head, A COAT) I would have probably bought 4-5. There HAS to be a figure already done that has a long coat that they could have used the cloak and arms from and just re-painted them for a pilot. I just see this as so many good possiblities HAsbro has had to BOTH give us what we want AND do it cheaply for them.

Just to warn you guys there is also the posibility that Hasbro could re release him later on with a paint change if they wanted to (which they NEVER do of cors http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) as there is also a red and a pale orange Naboo technician to be seen. Just before the queen's star ship is about to leave Coruscant to return to naboo two technicians can be seen in the background workin on the underside of the ship in the same uniform as Hasbro's figure but in red and orange rather than the normal yellow!

I was really hoping for a resculpte of the episode 1 nabboo security guars with the yellow clothes and 2 guns. Better articulation, a new head with removable helmet, variants, and new, smaller guns. A redo of the red securtiy guard and officer would have been nice with better ariticulation on both, especially the red guard, better weapons, removable helmets on both, a generic officer, not just panaka, a new panaka, and variants on the red guard. I think the idea for the figure is good, but the actaul sculpt is horrible.

Hey PizzatheHut yes the helmet is removable! You can check it out in this (http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2006/TSCnabootech.jpg) picture. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In that pic the helmet looks more like a shower cap. Is it just me or does the carded figure look like he's chasing after a real Naboo soldier who forgot his gun? "Hey, Bob, you forgot your gun." "Whoa, be careful with that thing Skippy, it might go off."

To be honest I can't wait for this figure to be released because I want to see how bad this one's going to pegwarm.

Just watch, anybody that buys this and tries to take it back is going to be accused of swapping a GI Joe figure with the real SW figure. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Eh, I don't think it will be as bad as the neimoidian warrior. Both are boring and both don't come with neat accessories but the naboo guy's got the warrior in articulation. I don't think a figure in the future will pegwarm as bad as the neimoidians, the most boring SW Characters of all time. lol

LOL!!!! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif Funny thing is, Reeikan doesn't even come close to pegwarming from the Hoth wave - Derlin is possibly the titleholder in that wave.

At least Reeikan can double as a highly-accurate John Kerry action figure - plus, he's extremely accurate to the actor who played Reeikan.

http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif So, I guess that the yellow naboo figure is actually pretty good - it accurately reflects the bored looking actor who played him - Nice job! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is anyone else noticing how easily "Tobey's" head pops off whenever you take the helmet off?

This is actually a solid figure articulation-wise. I don't know why they don't apply this kind of articulation to the static-legged Imperials they keep releasing. The costumes are similar, so you know they could.

That's what I think. These figures are best as the "filler" figures in dioramas. And in that regard, I think there are just enough to "army build" so to speak. I think this may actually be the dullest figure in SW history. In a month avalanches of these will be burying Sw collectors who make a wrong move in the toy aisle. At least the Neimoidian Commander was an alien.

That said, I'm getting two. Because I'm insane.

09-29-2006, 01:07 PM
It's not the most interesting or exciting costume design in the Star Wars galaxy, but it does look like a nice, simple figure. I plan to buy two, to add more "character" to my Naboo diorama. I'll buy two more if they truly do just hang on the pegs for months and months, like the Neimoidian Warrior did.

But I never actually saw the Neimoidian Warrior on sale. One week they were the only figures on the pegs, and the next week the Saga Collection replaced them. We'll probably see them again some day...

I got this figure at Collectormania yesterday, and I wasn't as pleased with him as I'd hoped. His torso seems too broad, he head is pea-sized like Cody's (Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but it seems that way to me), and as xdeathx mentioned, he can't really hold the blaster in any cool poses. Man, i totally miss concerts... What do you listen to?

Going to see the Chili Peppers and the Mars Volta soon, and hopefully a Wolfmother show in November.

Just saw TOOL friday night--great, as always. What else would one xpect though, from one of the greatest bands of our time?

But onto the Naboo dude...........
I don't mind this guy at all. He's a change from the norm for sure, but hey.
There are 2 things that really stand out to me though, that I do NOT like:
--the legs below the knees are from the Firespeeder Pilot, and they DO NOT line up correctly with this guys pants above the knee. When you have the knee bent it doesn't really make a difference I guess, cause there is gonna be a gap anyway. But when you have it standing straight up, they should line up, no? Well, this guy's legs certainly do not line up. There is a big gap left and it goes all the way around from the front to back, and it looks rather awkward.
--second thing to point out is the left arm(his left). Now, personally, I dislike swivel elbows regardless of what they are like, but in this case it's even worse. The right side is just about a "normal" swivel elbow, but the left arm is not. i don't know if it isn't cut at the right angle or what the problem is, but it just bends really, really weird. Anybody else notice this? It causes several posing problems. You can't really have the left arm holding the gun cause it just looks strange. What I mean is, when he has the handle in his right hand, you want to put his left hand either underneath the gun(like a Clone would hold it) or in this case the gun has a second handle where you would want to put his left hand. But it looks strange no matter which you do. The gun ends up being pressed against his chest like he's hugging it or something.
OK, so forget the gun. Let's say you wanna just pose him with his arms behind his back at parade-rest, like you would have an Imperial Officer standing. You can't! It looks so awfully silly when you try to do this. Again, the right arm works well enough in this pose, but the left ends up sticking out in yet another awkward looking angle.

So again, I don't really know if it's the angle they cut it at or what, but the left elbow's awkwardness just brings the level of posability waaaaaay down on this figure, which is kinda sad because it's a pretty well-done, SA figure otherwise.

Oh well, other than that though, I definitely like this guy and plan to pick up several more of him(if I find any more, that is). Some I will paint red so I can have a nice variety. And also, I'm considerring making some of these into a Clone Fire Brigade Mechanic, page 28 in the Visual Dictionary. The outfit is not exactly the same, but it's more or less just a plain jumpsuit, which this figure will do just fine for. The only thing one would have to do is switch heads, but that brings up yet another problem, because the neck-post of this guy is TINY, and no Clone head will fit on it(not even teeny-tiny Cody!). Oh well, you can always just swith the whole neck-post if you have to.

I don't think that Mechanic's a clone in the ROTS Visual Dictionary... just a Maori dude. Didn't really look like Bodie.

Yeah, you may be right. It DID look like Bodie Taylor, but yeah, I'm not 100% sure that it was a Clone either.

I got this figure tonight and opened him immediately. I dig this figure and may pick up 1 or 2 more. Not a great figure and a little boring but still pretty cool!

I found 5 or 6 at a 24hr Super Wal-Mart this morning. I think someone scored big in the last 24 hours, cuz all that was left of Naboo/Endor2 was one Rep Been, the 5 or 6 Naboo guys, and a ton of Vaders, none of the rest of the wave.

I picked up two of these, and gotta say I'm rather disappointed. It's not a horrible figure, so I don't regret getting two, but I'm glad I didn't buy 3 or more. The knees aren't ball-joints as the photos make it seem, they're just sculpted in a ball-form. The lower leg swivels on the ball, but it's actually attached to the thigh (while a figure like the DS Gunner has the 'ball' sculpted onto the top of the shin, allowing for the 'ball-joint' articulation). The gun is really soft & ridiculous, and the arms are a paint. Very stiff shoulder joints, sleeves nearly interfering with the ability to hold accessories, and a tiny neck limiting head movement a bit.

So I'm satisfied with just two. If they offer up a new headsculpt & paint the figure red with new helmet symbols, I'll get one, but that's it. One yellow to keep, one to use as fodder. The legs'll work nice for Jariah Syn from Dark Horse's "STAR WARS: LEGACY" comic, the rest'll get used as something I'm sure.
