View Full Version : Gragra - #052

GNT

Could it be finally after all these years we'll finally get Gragra in plastic form? Not really an interesting character but still one that would look neat in an episode 1 diorama.

http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2006/TSC52gragra1-tn.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2006/TSC52gragra1.jpg)

http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/gragra/img/eu_sm.jpg (http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/gragra/img/eu_bg.jpg)

"Gragra was a gorgmonger that worked the Mos Espa marketplace. Jar Jar Binks tried to [censored] a tasty morsel from her stand without paying the necessary wupiupi. When the bullying Dug Sebulba entered the picture, knocking the hapless Gungan to the ground, Gragra considered the matter closed and didn't pursue it further."

What is everyones opinions on this character being made into plastic form?

This is a fun monster. I love the aliens and wanted her in '99. I'll be picking it up.

The character does not really interest me. I would have been happy with a new battle droid instead. If the character comes with some nic eaccessories, then it will be more interesting. If not, I'll pass.

I'm extremely excited they're doing her. I really never thought we'd see her as a fig. She'll fit right in with the Cinema Scene and like Trooper31 & Rune said I hope she's got some good accessories.

Because they're both obscure aliens with less marketability than other characters. He's hoping this is precedent for another in that category, I believe.

Gragra is a Swokes Swokes & Toonbuck is a Sy Myrthian.

I really hope Gragra will indeed have some gorgs and maybe a small basket or stand to put them in? Now we will have another use for the Jar Jar figure with his tongue sticking out http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If they make Gragra then all they have to do next is make Jira, while a very boring figure it would make she should be made as well to complete the Tatooine set up.

Inigo_Montoya
10-21-2005, 03:11 PM
Jira is one figure I wouldn't need if I were making a complete Tatooine set-up.

Let's get Warwick Davis' Weazel, Bounty Hunters Rum Sleg and Rango Tel, or Kitster and Wald before Jira.

Darth_Broem

I will be getting this figure. I am a total sucker for almost every obscure background alien. If nothing else I can put Graga in a cantina or Jabba's palace diorama. It would be nice if she came with a market place for her. Or whatever that is called.

Inigo_Montoya
10-21-2005, 03:20 PM
A market vendor stand?

Ditto, about the compulsion to have most of the obscure aliens.
Much better than humans.

I like Gragra for the fact that she has dialogue, her funny language ("Ya wanna wanga...wupiupi" Huttese?), reserved temperment (when she looks as though she could have bitten off Jar Jar's head and pounded his thief's body into the sand), adrogonous nature, large bulk, bulgy and obvious rubber skin, large obsidian eyes, fanged mouth, horns/spikes/protrudences, and long tail.
http://www.starwars.com/episode-ii/explore/attack/2003/05/img/ep2-1a-5227.jpg

And oh yeah, she has three nostrils - that's awe inspiring for any creature design.

(I know it's really a tiny snout horn, but you can't tell in TPM anyway, and just seems cooler)

Gragra is certainly obscure, but its a new alien species that has yet to see a figure - which is always a good choice in my book. I certainly hope this is just the prototype because the head looks horrible. Either way, it is a new sculpt of an all new character so I will pick it up and I love the Chubas! Too bad they couldn't give us some kind of market stand though, even if it were horribly underscaled.

TheMadBubbler
06-03-2006, 02:29 AM
I think Gragra is a cool lookign creature, and was overdue to be done in figure form. The pictured figure looks pretty cool, and the cleaver and bunch of Chubas are great accessories. I'm definitely happy with this figure. The legs do look slightly funky; I don't recall seeing Gragra's legs in the movie, but I'm guessing Hasbro used some kind of reference material (maybe some kind of pre-production art or something) to base the leg sculpt upon. I would be curious to find out what they were based upon. If it does have an articulated jaw, as it looks like it might in the picture, that would be a definite plus, too. I think this figure may look pretty cool packaged as well, if they have a backgroudn of the food stand (as I'm assuming they will, since Gragra didn't appear anywhere else to my knowledge), and position the Chubas in the bubble to look like they're hanging in the stand. I am primarily a loose figure collector, but I may have to buy one to keep carded too. We'll see.

Oh please. There is a ton more detail on the fig. She looks great!

I would have loved a vendor stand (but that's not reasonable for a basic fig...would have made a cool deluxe fig!)

And, I think the JarJar candy dispenser is about the coolest Star Wars collestable ever made (besides figures of course). I dug mine out, and will need to get some PEZ now...

Those who own the EP1 Mos Espa Encounter Cinema Scene (http://www.rebelscum.com/episodeI/e1cinemaencounterloose.jpg) can use it as a backdrop for their Gragra. (http://www.rebelscum.com/toys2006/TSCgragra.jpg)
Just place the figure right in front of her image on the backdrop.

Know what I just realized? Check out Gragra's legs on the backdrop. Same as used on the fig, they are based on the costume's design.

I'd like there to be more civilian creatures and characters spread right across the SW saga - not always ones that are battle-orientated, as kewl as those figures are.

A gargra figure and a market stall would be a kewl set, if done well and detailed enough, to be a stand-alone great toy. I realise that playsets are not Hasbro's thing, despite the overwhelming demand by fandom, however, if this were ever made, I'd definately buy one.

The mouth is articulated -- not an action feature. Someone from Hasbro commented on it, I think one of the guys at Comic-Con (while on the floor at the exhibit), talked about how he wanted to add something to Gragra since she really couldn't have very much articulation, and the mouth seemed a natural.

the fact that maybe some of us just plain arent into the background extras?

and man, open the one you have now if the jaw is bugging you. i think i'm missing the point here with carded collecting. but if i knew the point and bought one to open and the other to proudly hang on my wall, i'd open the first and keep the second carded

to each his own, my good sir. i just will never understand carded collecting much like i'm sure several carded collectors will never understand openers. sorry if it seemed like i was demanding, i just didnt get it.

that IS a pretty interesting jaw feature though Gragra seems to be sporting. i think she might be one of those figures that i'll buy if i'm sick of not finding anything else interesting to grab. 'tis how i ended up getting Sora Bulq after all

and i must admit, kudos to Hasbro for the design of this figure. i cant find anything wrong with it at all. she has a great sculpt, more articulation than i expected, really neat paint aps, and some well-thought-out accessories.

now we need a better jar jar for gragra to tell off. because the jaw moves http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif! a feature incredibly important for such a minor character that only yells at jar jar!

Gragra is now added the Photo Archives:
http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC/tsc052gragraloose-m.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/tsc052gragra.asp)

And because I know you want it, here's the busiest scene in the entire film:
http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC/tsc052gragrascene-tn.jpg

Not only do we have Jar Jar getting throttled by Selbulba and Anakin helping Qui-Gon, but this is also the scene where:

a) Quinlan Vos was hiding out before he lost his memory.
b) Badoo Bok was living as "Bralla" the Tenguar deal-maker.

Picked mine up yesterday, and I'm really liking Gragra. She's one of the few new molds in this wave, and a very interesting one at that.
The jaw feature is very unique, as stated before. Not only does the head swivel & tilt, but the actual jaw part moves also, so if you have the head pulled back(say like when Chewie growls) you can have the mouth opened or closed, whichever you choose. It's rather different, unlike much we have ever seen before.
She has good articulation overall, especially for a figure that just sits in the backround, and her accessories are really nice--those delicious fishy things are great!!

And hey, with all the repacks/repaints nowadays, I don't really see how anyone can pass on an ALL-NEW sculpt, regardless of how obscure the character.

Paint error my butt, my Gragra does not have painted nostrils either. I got it at a Wally the 1st week these were found in USA. It has no paint in the nostrils and no paint details near the horns either.

Here's the eBay title:

STAR WARS TSC GRAGRA NOSTRILS NO PAINT VARIANT VHTF RARE!!!

I think we may have another Saga2 variation on our hands, folks. The date stamp from the packaging is 62051. I would take a pic, but I don't think my camera phone will pick up that small of detail (or lack of detail).

I'm so sick of this garbage. It's driving me away from the hobby. I had to hunt to find the first Threepio ever to have jointed knees, and when I finally, excitedly scored, they put out a corrected paint version. Now another paint f-up in the very next wave. It'd be nice if they could get something right the first damned time.

The proto pic also shows paint detail in the creases in her face; mine doesn't have that.
