This is one figure I've thought would never be made, trust Hasbro to actually make it! Plus it's a new droid for the collection!

After making Wol Cabas***** during the first Saga collection back in 04, anything is possible for a figure.

As far as the Power Droid goes, I love it. It will definately be added to my collection.

At least Hasbro are offering something new while using a existing sculpt.

It should be a pack-in figure with some other Hoth character.
Or at least come with a big accessory (a console or a battle turrent).

It's an excellent figure and it most certainly will not pegwarm. Name one film-accurate classic trilogy droid from the last Saga collection that pegwarmed? Or from any collection for that matter. The obvious pegwarmer here will be Rieekan. It's utterly ridiculous they'd put him in here instead of a Hoth Leia or C-3PO. Enough of these waves with R2-D2 but no C-3PO anywhere in sight. I thought we would be done with that after ROTS. I keep running into people in the stores looking for C-3PO and it doesn't look like Hasbro has any clue.

we could always use another jawa figure in a different pose, i think a jawa with the gonk in the hoth wave would be a beautifully confusing thing to do http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They seem to want to spread out the main characters, which is good. They had Leia and Han in the first wave, Vader and R2 in this wave. Maybe they are saving C-3PO for the Endor Wave, or the Tatooine wave. I'm just happy that we're not seeing Hoth Luke and Han again.

I love this. Its different than the POFT2 Gonk, and looks pretty good. I'd like it to come with some packi-in, because thats sorta skimpy for a figure. Still, I'll gladly pay for a good figure!

Inigo_Montoya

I payed $7 for R4-G9, so this GONK will be no different.

Will definately get as I never found the Jawa & GONK 2-pk., and GONKs are as pop culturally iconic as you can get with SW.

Good news for those who own the POTF2 GONK, is that this one's a resculpt, with more authentic paint apps.
http://www.rebelscum.com/potf2/POTFsctjawagonkloose-m.jpg

Now I can very likely make two figures from one, given that it's sensor dish is removable.

FX-7 was a peg warmer in POTJ, the medical droid, EV-9D9 and 8D8 in POTF2. There are still a few stores near me that still have some of these figures, and I don't live in some small backwoods town either. Droids that aren't R2 units, 3po or IG-88 sit.

Not something I was dying for, but a nice update of an old mold for something new and unique. Probably a win-win for Hasbro and us. A nice figure that will be cheap for Hasbro to make.

Hopefully the top piece will be removable (but I do love the top piece) and he will be packed in with some sort of decent size acceossry, like a cable and a recharge unit or something.

Darth_Tedious

There is no mention of "walking action" in the Hasbro description. I'm hoping that the button on the side is just a remnant of the old sculpt and the legs are free moving.

Inigo_Montoya
11-05-2005, 02:55 PM
I'd think that's just a part of the Droid's design that the sculpters couldn't overlook.

Unless you had a rubber band handy, that means the legs were posed in a split (well, the equivilant of one for the figure) when in neutral.

I'm surprised we're not getting any accessories with this guy. Is it worth the 5 dollar purchase by itself? They could've at least put an astromech in there, or a WED. Or something nifty.

But if you recall, the POTF2 Power Droid couldn't stand on his own because of this "action feature."

I guess it was supposed to be "falling over action."

I got mine to stand, but needless to say I don't touch him much because it takes some effort to get the one leg not to kick out from under the droid.

Its possible to get the droid to stand, but it'd be a lot nicer if the action feature wasn't there at all making it a lot easier for everyeone.

I'll be blown away and amazed if thats an all new figure.

Why would they resculpt an all new version and still keep the lever?

I just looked at the new version while looking at the older Commtech version via RS's Photo Archives and after about five-ten minutes of staring back and forth between the two I've concluded its the same figure, with the only difference being the "hat" atop the new version of course.

It doesn't look like this one will be a new sculpt at all, just a bit of modifying to the old version.

I'd also heavily weigh the chances of this NOT being a new figure on the rumor/statement by Hasbro saying that half of each wave would be new sculpts while the other half would be rehashes/retools/modifications to older figures. If this statement has any truth to it, which by examining the BOC and Hoth waves alone we know it probably does, its safe to say this figure will fall under the rehash/resculpt/modification label along with Rieekan, Vader, R2 and the Snow Trooper. Thats 4/7, more than half the wave.

The BOC wave will see rehashes/retools/modifications in Boba, Barada, and Chewbacca. Thats 3/6, half of the wave while the other half of course are new figures.

And if RS's recent 411 reports have any clout to them, which I certainly feel they do, then this "half and half" statement will most likely hold true for most every other wave expected to be released next year.

I love the little gonk droid, but that crown thing is ugly! Looks like someone with hemroids is trying to sit on him! http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif droids are cool though i think i'll wait to see this one in person before deciding

I think the inclusion of Beru's accessory droid makes this Power Droid MORE desirable. I was very excited to see that carded pic just now. Plus, the added greeblies on top of the Gonk's head are optional, another plus as far as I am concerned.

I like the random junk they've added to this and the R2. If there's one thing I wish we'd see more of with star wars figures it's scene specific little diorama parts and accessories. Like throw in a little vase or chimes with a Jabba's palace figure or add in a candle with a cantina figure. A padme figure could have some of her apartment ornaments. I like the little details.

I REALLY hope this carded pic doesn't mean it'll have the "walking legs" action feature. The white-background photo of the loose (albeit prototype) figure made me all kinds of happy, since finally I'd get a Power Droid that could STAND.

But, cool that it has the extra droid & little gewgaws.

I was already planning to get a couple of the power droids but with the addition of the other robot plus the removable head piece I might get even more. Hasbro sure got this one right, congrats guys! Does the droid have 2 pieces for his head cause there seems to be a smaller piece above the larger head piece next to the droid?

We will probably get the walking legs feature. The Carkoon Fett still has the quick draw freature, therefor since this is a straight repaint, I forsee the action feature will still be in place.

I love the accessories!

Yep, that's Solo's little helper. The figure is also pretty accurate. As a few others pointed out, he originally was packed with Aunt Beru a while back -- as he is seen lurking around the Lars homestead. Earlier, he popped up in the Sandcrawler briefly --- a close up of his binocular eyes. Actually, this little guy really gets around as Lucasfilm apparently busted him out of storage just so he could partner with Threepio during Anakin's arrival to the Lar's homestead in Episode 2.

Oh, and he was also paired with Luke during the watching the space battle above scenes that were cut from the top of ANH. A still of this appears in the original Star Wars Storybook published by Random House. And it is nearly the exact same location in which the ATOC scenes were later shot.

Sorry, to ramble, but I've always like this other little blue guy and just thought I'd pass alone all I know about him, http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And yes, it is a very cool little pack in to be sure.

Judging from the pics, the two head adornments have posts at their bottom, so they will fit into holes on top of the Gonk.

I've dealt with some other figure lines that do that with hats, etc. An action figure of Comet (the reindeer coach from the Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys line) was depicted very faithfully wearing a cap and whistle, but I wanted some extra non-specific reindeer to flesh out my diorama.

I bought several extra Comets on clearance, but the hat attached to the head via a post on the bottom of the hat and a hole in the top of the head.

So, I filled in the hole rather quickly by jamming in the point of a Crayon of the matching shade of brown, and breaking it off flush. Quick, cheap, and does no permanent damage to the toy.

Similarly, there ought to be any number of non-damaging ways to plug the holes on top of the Gonk.

I love this little guy and this cute "hat". The treadwell is an extra bonus, by far my fav of the Hoth wave. I hope Habro will repaint it blue and repack it. If you look hard, you can see a blue power droid at the Lars home in ANH. A no brainer.

That's how they all are.

oh okay Thanks everyone for responding. I had no idea this was the original production run, since this was the first time I heard about it. Thanks again.

actually after everyone for years had called them gonk droids, West End games labeled them as GNK model droids. like the R2, R3, R4, R5, FX, and 3PO droids. It just kind of stuck after that.
