It seems in the new Entertainment Earth pics (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS85770B#LargeImage) have a AT-AT driver as one of the figures for the Battle of Hoth Wave.

I like that they added the driver but it looks resculpted...

Victor_Von_Doom

I'm guessing it is resculpted. That is a pretty good looking set. Is it an EE exclusive?

10-18-2005, 02:50 AM
I just like how they have the Cheers Trooper in there... http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Was getting kind of worried that there wasn't going to be a Saga 2 figure besides the Leia Boussh that I'd want but with this, what does appear to be a brand new AT-AT driver, it looks like I'll have to get a couple.

That AT-AT Driver has to be new. It is a huge improvement over the last one from POTF2. I will defiantely be grabbing this one.

No. It's from the Saga Collection which means every toy seller is gonna sell em.

Nope he is screen accurate. A very nice resculpt much like the TIE Pilot was back in 04.

Looks like he will have ball jointed knees under those straps but only swival shoulders and biceps. Still awesome though.

Protos or not, I don't think any thing drastic will change in the sculpts. By the time the image is released, different paint apps are all we can expect.

I agree though, he looks incredible! Besides, how articulated does he have to be to sit in an AT-AT? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

CaptainJack
10-18-2005, 09:20 AM
Well his legs do seem to be close enough together to be able to sit in something... The wave does include resculpts of the two figure released with the AT-AT... Maybe Hasbro will release some kind of bizarre AT-AT minirig!

-I'd probably buy it

Now THAT is an AT-AT Driver!
Took Hasbro a decade (a quarter of a century if you count vinatge) to get this one right. But it looks like they did.
Will be getting it to say the least.

My hope is that they recylcled the ROTS Clone Pilot legs so that he can sit down (which is what they primarily do, right?)

I must be thinking of this picture where the whole suit is white:

http://www.starwars.jp/organization/image/atat_driver.jpg

The suit isn't white. The pic is just washed out and overexposed making it look all white. You can still see a slight difference in tone between the jumpsuit and the white armor.

They outdid the POTF2 Driver, who has really held up pretty well for the past seven years.
http://www.rebelscum.com/potf2/POTF2atat2loose-m.jpg

Glad I never found it though, as this one is a remarkable improvement.
Hanging pant straps.
White boots.
Accurately dimensioned helmet.
Finer paint apps.
Thinner oxygen tubes.

Blight

The hanging straps are the biggest improvement. He looks like an excellent sculpt to finally replace my ATAT exclusive.

Well look at the final 12 ROTS protos. The final Productions were WAY different.

One figure was a bit different, the Tactical Ops Trooper, and the only thing that changed was the mold they used on the final product.

Gree was simply a matter of his helmet paint scheme being altered a bit. Those two are the only changes I can think of that were truly noticable or stood out.

All the others were basically no different from their pre-production shots or the proto's used at Comic-Con. Holo Aayla, Holo Plo, R4-P17, the two Seperatists, the two Wookiees, Grievous' Guard and the Neimoidian Commander didn't change a bit.

But sure, its expected that some changes may occur, it sometimes happens, but I can't imagine anything too dramatic happening. Even if any paint apps are altered, I don't imagine they'd be altered enough to ruin any of the figures to a point where you can't tell Derlin is Derlin or the AT-AT Driver is an AT-AT Driver. Thats near impossible.

I'm happy to get a resculpt of this guy. This should dbe the last one they ever need to sculpt so the next time we get a Hoth wave, we get a new SA Snowtrooper.

You don't think it would be nice if he could sit down, like he is supposed to?

And yes, the AT-AT Driver looks pretty much like perfection. Anyone who would pass on this figure needs to just call it quits.

The AT-AT Drive IS an awesome figure!! No doubt about that!! Let's just hope that TWO of them fit comfortably in the AT-AT cockpit.

I tell you I was quite annoyed back in '96 when the POTF II Driver (because of his broad shoulders) did NOT fit in the AT-AT cockpit as a PAIR!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

As for General Veers, no real need for knee articulation on him.

Sorry CobraKaiDojo, but you're wrong. He is NEVER seen sitting down in The Empire Strikes Back. He is ALWAYS standing.

Okay, I could not resist waiting till this figure comes out and bought one for $15 at the Frank And Son's Show (Scalper Town). Let me tell you... IT WAS WORTH IT!! This figure is awesome!! It's so beautiful I want to cry!! No, seriously, hasbro finally did a good job on this one. I can wait on the other ones, which by the way they had all pit of carkoon and hoth sets, but I could not wait on this super improved version of the At-At driver. IMO Veers doesn't need leg articulation.

You don't think it would be nice if he could sit down, like he is supposed to?

And yes, the AT-AT Driver looks pretty much like perfection. Anyone who would pass on this figure needs to just call it quits.

Even if he had leg articulation he couldn't sit. The commander skirt would block his legs from moving forward. And I don't recall him ever sitting in the movie.

It was the only figure from the entire Hoth wave that I bought a double of... I wanted Veers to open too but I decided to hold off till I spot him at Walmart instead.

I wouldn't pass on it at $6.99 if you see it. The Driver is going to be the hottest figure in the wave and we know how inconsistent stores have been in the past about stocking Star Wars during movie off years. I picked up 3 new AT-AT Drivers today @ Wal-Mart. All three of them have the crotch piece backwards?

Thankfully this can easily be fixed by heating up the leg joints with a blowdryer, then popping them off & turning the crotch piece around properly.

Nah, we need a Hoth Trooper that goes at least one step better: ball-jointed elbows. Maybe even ankles.

This is one fantastic figure overall. Some minor improvements would've made him a fantastic trooper, but he's still the 3rd best Imp trooper released (#1 being VOTC Stormie, #2 the Evo Sandtroopers). Well, what do you know ... those are ball-jointed shoulders. When I checked one of mine, I couldn't even see the joint (dimly lit room) ... and on the one AT-AT Driver I checked, I couldn't swivel his shoulder outward.
My mistake.

If possible could someone post a picture of this guy next to a VOTC stormtrooper, I'm curious about the sizes of the two guys, helmets, height, etc. Also if you could have one of them put their arms around the others back, like they're best buds, that'd be cool too.

That pic is great ... but it does confirm the fact that the Driver is a shrimp. He's not as small as the first Saga line's Hoth Trooper, but he's short. We all know that intense cold can cause "shrinkage" with men, but I never thought it affected the entire body!

I like the new driver alot, but does anyone else think that his helmet sculpt, from the side, is a little off? It looks like it sticks out at a sharp angle. The middle picture is the new Saga version while the lower one is the POFT2 version. There really isn't a good pic of the new ones profile on line yet, but if you have the fig hold it up and see what I mean.

While the picture does show that the AT-AT driver is short it also shows the comradery and brotherhood within the empires ranks despite some of their members shortcomings. This picture looks like it could be in the Empires yearbook after the grand victory at Hoth.

I've got 7 POTF II AT-ATs that need Drivers!!!

About the ONLY customization that I maybe MIGHT perform on them (and that's a BIG "maybe") Is to make them a bit taller to match the height of VOTC Stormtroopers.

This action figure looks to be THE FINEST Star Wars action figure offering in a while!!

Kudos to Hasbro!!! Very well done!!!

I wouldn't worry about making 'em as tall as VOTC Stormies. They're NOT all identical, after all, and despite having helmets with Stormtrooper attributes, I don't think there's anything that indicates they ARE Stormtroopers (same with TIE Pilots, the saga/OTC one is shorter than a Stormie)

...unless I'm forgetting the write-up on the back of the card, of course.

If they were so big on cloning why didn't vader have his men search all the air shafts in Bespin for his arm, and make an army of Luke's. It would have taken time, but then at least vader could get one to rule the galaxy with him.

Clearly you're unaware of Luuke from the Dark Force Rising trilogy of books http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I got my 2 off of ebay. I actually (if you haven't heard already, I've posted this everywhere) got them for UNDER retail, yes that includes shipping. Pretty neat.

Got mine yesterday--I now have a 2nd favorite figure ever!
