View Full Version : The downsides of the themed wave concept

I am not too happy Hasbro is using a themes for their releases. These themes, that have been announced leave no room for random figures we need. Characters that appeared on locations/ in events that are not worth getting a whole wave dedicated. Also, you have to wait out for too long.

It would be great if Hasbro just made Ep I-III and IV-VI splits that switch with each wave. One wave with characters from this trilogy and one from this. Now, that would go against my principles, sort of as SW is one story to me, but it would certainly make things easier.
This would allow us to have a character like Cody a lot sooner and we wouldn't have to wait until Hasbro announced a Utapau wave.

Anyone agree?

Well I don't think that Hasbro will take the theme to literally. As long as the figure can loosely be tied to the location that's all that really matters. In fact, I think you will hear more complaining about certain not really fitting into the location that the wave is

It also gives Hasbro a reason to throw in the old repack/rehash.

Exactly. Just look at the Battle of Carkoon wave, three of the figures were never at Carkoon in those forms (Leia Boushh, Han Carbonite, Chewie Chained). As for Cody if he isn't in the Coruscant wave I'll be completely shocked.

I see your point, but I don't think there is any harm in trying such a thing for a year. In fact, I kind of liked it when they did it in '04. Nice and tidy.

Will it or should it continue? I think is depends on the themes. I know it restricts what's possible, but half the fun of life is anticipation.

But that's just me.

I like the battle theme idea, but I see what you mean. An episode themed series would be really cool too.

I would love to see waves of obscure, background extras, droids, creatures from all the movies. Characters from Cloud City, Mos Isley, Mos Espa, Coruscant, Theed, etc... lotsa extras that can flesh-out the star wars universe more fully. Ones that are unique and individual, not army builders or rehashes.

Maybe I'll keep dreaming...

Only half? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tyrannusspotting, I understand what you mean. Hasbro may take the same approach with the new collection as they did with Saga between Episodes II and III, which was only losely based on a location. The Tattooine wave in 2004 had Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 from ROTJ, and RI-G4 from ANH, for example. It may work out nicely, though...Only time will tell.

Also, I just noticed that your avatar looks like Eddie Izzard...? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Im not sure about the upcoming themed waves. I like the cardbacks since I collect MOC. Im just not sure they will make any new characters and its just another oportunity to put out more rehashes when they need to make more VOTC quality figures in the regular lines. We will have to wait and see.
