View Full Version : 2006 Card Design

We all saw the new bubble design at SDCC but it looks like a new card back will be under that bubble! What Hasbro has done in the past for the presentation of the new stuff is use old stuff just to show off the concept. My guess is that they did the same here with the card back and we'll see the new bubble on it...I think it'll look great!

I am glad that they won't go back to the OTC card basically for the reason that the card was done for a special event (the DVD) and this keeps them in that category instead of just making them "normal". I am sure we'll see the return of the character specific cards more than once in the future.

I like this new card...nice prominant Vader reminds us that ROTS was just out and keeps us in that mode for a while....besides, now we are all thining "what happened between episodes 3 & 4?" and the Vader theme goes perfect with that line of thought...then the planet view of Mustafar starts to pull you away from EIII while the Silver letters start to tie in to the OT...nice job!!

Here it is!!:

While the 2006 packaging looks great as a departure from the ROTS line I still think we'll see something along the lines of what we saw at SDCC (http://www.rebelscum.com/sdcc05/hasbro-qa/IMG_2408.JPG) for the toys produced by Hasbro.

It is quite possible...mayby the top of the card and the insert will be the new design and the area behind the bubble will have the character specific image...I love the images in the background...it makes me feel like a kid again, but I would not be upset if they switched it around a bit. In fact, the more I look at the two card styles the more I hope that they use the new Vader card for the new line with the image in the background becasue it ties in the OT and PT eras even better...the OTC style colors should be saved for another time...

Ugh. I really hope they stick with the SDCC design. I'm sick of the cartoon Vader.

Hehehe...someone else in another forum mentioned he saw Mickey ears when he looked at this one...I still like his one a lot, even if I do see the ears now!

I don't think that that is action figure packaging. It looks like it's for everything else.

Only time will tell thats for sure, let's hope this is for "other" items and not the basic 3+3/4" line! I loved what they showed off at SDCC, I thought it was a good mix of elements moving forward after a movie year! This new design just looks lazy, hell we've had better submissions in our create a card design contest from years ago - http://www.rebelscum.com/contest.asp

I tend to agree. And, if so, it will make the Saga Collection packaging look even better and stick out even more.

This design, on the other hand, is about an unimaginative as I could think of. Pretty disappointed that this is the best that LFL Licensing could come up with. Maybe they were just too preoccupied with the move to the Presidio. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I hope the packaging showed at the Comic Con is what they use for the 3 3/4 Line. I dislike that cartoon Vader a great deal.

I don't like it. Its to much like the ROTS packaging, Which I really don't like. The stuff showed at SDCC was much better.

I dont like it. Too much like ROTS. I hope they keep their original plans with the OTC style cards. ROTS went to the extremes with the packaging and its ok now that Ive gotten used to it but I hope they continue with actual picture cards and no more cartoon pictures for cardbacks. It looks like its only on other products not the 3 3/4 line.

Looks like it will be fun to rip those cardbacks to shreds opening all my new 2006 figures. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Agreed! Being a carded collector, there isn't much here to get excited about. Perhaps you were just kidding? http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

IMO the new cards, if done with this ROTSish design, won't be much better than the ROTS cards in the regards that the logo insert will still cover up a large portion of the figure while the dark (Vader) background will conceal some of the darker colored figures. To me, the new packaging is not very flattering and lacks originality. NOW, move the logo to the top, get rid of that big insert in front of the figure, or at least scale it down some, change the background color to something a tad lighter, and this carded collector would be excited!

I do fully agree with Pete_Windu's assessment about it being a mix of old and new. Good call!

EDIT: I changed my mind and I agree with the below post.

Wow...I seem to be the only one who like the new design...after reading the rest of the posts I do agree that it is somewhat of a "plain" card but I really do like the fact that the meshed together the ROTS style with the OT style...it gives them a new place to mave as the packaing evolves over the years imo...I don't know...I just like it, it doe snot blow me away, but I like it.

I love the OTC packagin...best thing since 1985 but I'd like to keep it that way...I think if they pick up the OTC style too stongly in 2006 and continue it on the OTC will lose something. I'd live ot see what this package would look like with the character specific scene as the background...I'll bet that would please just about everyone...

Actually, I was quite serious. 99.9% of my stuff is open. I open them, customize them, etc. and put them in dioramas.

By the way, where is it officially stated ANYWHERE that this will also be the design for the figure cards???

I bet you'd be right! I know I'd love some character specific cards. Here's hoping that the basic figure cardbacks have a little more something put into them by the time they make their debut. http://threads.rebelscum.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Chewie! Sweet, sweet work!!! Especially if those are all scratch-built sets.

Personally, I'd rather they spend the money on the figures themselves rather than on any fancy and/or elaborate packaging. But I guess that's just me.

This isn't the new card design, just the theme for other Lucasfilm licensed products next year.

Looks pretty cool. Any chance of posting some details?

If you already have and I missed it, could you post a link?
